$300+ for a pair of boots, $65 for the custom orthotics. Do you think it would be too much to ask…read moreto throw in a shoehorn? (You know you can't actually put the boots on easily without one). Forgot to ask the day I bought them.. Went back the next day to ask for one...No chance... If you want a shoehorn, that'll be $10.00 buddy.. ($10.00 for a freaking shoehorn? ) Or we have another one over there for more... REALLY? Could that be ANY cheaper? Boots are great, store policy, not so much...Should have waited to talk to the guy I bought them from.. HE (Ron) was very professional... (add a star if you get him)...

I have to start this review by saying that, back in 1977, I paid $100 for winter boots that I had…read moreto give up in 2014, because they no longer fit! There was NOTHING wrong with them, other than the fit! (I put them in one of those ubiquitous, parking lot, clothing/shoe donation bins). For the following year, I had searched for new boots, going from department stores - - high- and low-end - - mom-and-pop shoe stores, and big-name shoe stores, from Huntington to Smithtown, from Kings Park to Bayshore, without success. About two weeks ago, I found a Red Wings coupon in the mail. Although I was familiar with the brand, I had no idea that the store was in Huntington just south of 25 on 110! The staff greeted me as soon as I walked in, and asked what I was looking for. Most of their goods are boots, which, they said caters, mostly, to blue collar/outdoor workers. When I told them what I was looking for, per the above, they showed me a pair that I instantly liked! But, before I could try it on, they suggested that I use their "fitting" device, where you take off your shoes, and put both feet on the pads, then, it scans you for length, width, and arch support. It even recommends orthotics! Unfortunately, it was wrong on all counts for me! So, they went by what I currently wear, and, after a couple of non-fits (not all manufacturers fit exactly), they gave me a pair of boots that fit (I need a wide width), has holes for the laces (not those slipover prongs or whatever the heck they are), tread like a snow tire, and a good price (only slightly more than what I had paid for nearly 40 years ago!). They never pushed anything on me (as a matter of fact, after I asked to see the aforementioned boot, they showed me a LESS expensive version, but, the $10 more expensive one has better waterproofing (allegedly!) AND is insulated. They were also very patient with me, friendly, and not patronizing. The whole process took only about 10 minutes! Their boots come with free oiling (waterproofing), which they recommend be done every 3 months or so, depending on use (for the record, I did my own maintenance on the old boots just a few times over the years, but, it cost about $10 for leather oil and protectant), and free replacement laces, as needed (I've seen boot laces go for $5 and higher for a pair!). They also sell regular shoes, some with steel-toe (again, they cater to workers, as well as to regular folks). Fashion-seekers may be disappointed, but, those wanting function over style may find what they need! So, this was a very good experience, and, after a year (literally!) of searching, I have new snow boots! Of course, now that I'm ready for the next snow storm, it won't happen until next winter! (you're welcome!)
