We have been using this company for at least 20 years now, and have always expected work of the highest standards. Recently we noticed that the cushions on two chairs that they restored decades ago were not holding up. We took them in and, a week later had cushions stuffed with new feathers that exactly match the colors of the rest of the chairs. Also one of the chairs had a bolt sticking out more than an inch. If you want old world craftmanship and old school service, call Mike Shannon at East Meadow Upholsters. My old dining room chairs (circa 1990s) were in bad shape with a few rips and flattened seats. I really noticed these issues after using the chairs for long periods of time during dragged-out Zoom meetings. At first I thought of replacing them, but only found cheaply made imported chairs that were not to my taste. Besides I always prefer to refurbish my vintage stuff rather than replace it if I can. In addition to their excellent reviews, I remembered that East Meadow Upholsters had done work for my Mom many years ago and she was very happy with them. So I filled out a short online form on their website and attached pics of my old chairs; Mike replied with a reasonable quote the same day. I opted to get my own material and Mike picked up my chairs a few days later with a promised finish date of 2 weeks. So I was pleasantly surprised when Mike finished the job in about a week! Tried several shops to get the cushion on my 1960s chair recovered. Mike was the only one who replied! (And the shop has been there since the 1950s so there was confidence in them knowing what they're doing.) The price was reasonable (and so much cheaper than trying to buy a new solid walnut chair). He was able to use the original steel springs & wood frame. The new vinyl is almost identical to the old crusty 1960s vinyl. The only thing he couldn't do was use solid latex foam as in the original (or maybe he could be the cost would've been too high). Anyway, it looks amazing. Before/after pics below! read more

6 of my barstools needed new cushions so I called several upholstery places and went with these folks based on 1) the reviews on yelp and google 2) speed of communication both on email and phone 3) pictures of their work I saw. I also appreciated the quote they gave me upfront which I thought was fair. The other upholstery shops did not communicate well and were tardy in responding. I had to make an appointment to come in because the shop is small. The owner who I communicated with had a mask on and were following safety protocols. I'm pretty easy to please and found a vinyl sample I liked right away. The job got done in 3 work days and they did a great job as you can see from the before and after photos. Nice to work with such pleasant and efficient people who do a good job. Please support your local businesses - especially when they provide reasonable rates and high quality work. read more

Crazy person who hands you a massive bill and says your welcome to get ripped off by me if you want I can't respond to his post but he calls himself an artist? Give me a break! My fabric was purchased through Stickley Furniture, and Mike discussed measurements and details with them to ensure I ordered the right amount of fabric. The strapping in our 1960's danish modern couch was falling apart so I shopped around for a local upholsterer. East Meadow Upholsterers ended up having the best price and they provided pickup and delivery. They replaced the straps with identical (but clearly better) looking straps then added an additional pad over the top. It looks so good and it is even more comfortable now than ever before! Came to Mike with six dining room chairs, all of which had terribly stained seat cushions (thanks to a toddler, a baby, and a cat). He re-upholstered the seats beautifully in less than a week, using a vinyl that looks exactly like fabric. The seats literally look better now than they did fresh out of the showroom, and we don't have to worry about spills! Mike made the whole process very simple, was very honest about what we needed and didn't to improve our chairs, and charged an extremely reasonable price for such high-quality work. To boot, he's a very nice guy, who lives right near his business and is very, very passionate about what he does. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

I guess you reconsider and edited your first response. What was it that bothered you? The FACT that you told me to be AFRAID, or the fact that the story is not completely truthful. Yes, you did hand my wife fabric samples to make her selection, charged us $40 for the fabric shipping (you told my wife that is what they charge you, so we have to pay it), then explained to her that the bottom fabric was in PERFECT condition, therefore it did not have to be replaced. You went on to say, that you only had to redo the top and the sides. The underside fabric (all original, with NO DAMAGE), and with the strapping that holds it to the piece of furniture we have, could be re-used. When I came to pick it up, I noticed that there was a hole, which was clearly done by the tips/point of a scissor. When I brought it to your attention, you kindly glued it, because as you said, that is the only thing that could stop it from fraying and sent me on my way. I too can attach original photos of the cushion and the damaged that was caused by an animal, all correct. I too can attach photos that will include the UNDAMAGED underside. So technically, you charged me $300 to re-cover the top and 4 sides of a rectangular pillow. Should I be questioning the fact that 2 yards of fabric that you charged me was necessary. When you said I would need 2 yards of fabric, it was to cover the entire cushion (top, sides and bottom). We can go back and forth if you would like, but let's not lose focus or that fact that I was a customer, that ultimately did not like the end product that I paid for, nor the way I was treated when bringing to your attention the cut/damage you caused to the bottom of the cushion. Customers have the right to express both excellent reviews and NOT so excellent reviews. This happens to be one of the not so excellent reviews. Mike Shannon and his staff are the best! The expression "a quality job at a fair price" was written with them in mind. We have a brown leather couch, the color of which had become somewhat "weathered" over the years, and the three cushions were completely shot. I had wondered whether I could get new leather cushions made. Mike suggested vinyl instead as something that would wear better. My concern was whether the new cushions would match the current color of the rest of the couch closely enough. Mike and I went over some vinyl selections and I took samples home to look for a fit. I chose a vinyl, Mike redid my cushions, and I now have a "new" couch with vinyl cushions whose color is virtually indistinguishable from the color of the leather on the rest of the couch. I have dealt with Mike over the years and have many pieces done by him up to 25 years ago that are still in great shape. Don't go anywhere else! read more
