I recently remodeled bathrooms and a laundry room. I worked with Meghan Dooley at the Ocean Township store, and she was terrific. She was patient and had so many great selections for me to choose from. I would highly recommend Meghan to anyone looking to remodel and needing tile ideas. The worst and most expensive customer service experience. I recently bought my floors from Avalon for a first floor renovation. I was sold engineered white oak floors which I told would be family and pet-friendly and durable. Since install, the floors have splintered and chipped terribly- with the white oak separated from the core and posed a serious safety concern. After the rigorous process of two inspectors reports, I was informed that no refund would be rewarded, mainly because the manufacturers warranties are garbage. Upon reading the reports myself it explicitly stated that the sales person should inform the buyer that a texture floor would require a lifestyle change due to the potential to chip and splinter. No one ever mentioned this. I've gone back and forth with Avalon- with no success. Save yourself the frustration and stay away from this company. read more

We are not happy with Avalon Flooring and if you were us, you would not be happy either. Eighteen months ago we decided to re-do our kitchen and hallway flooring with new ceramic. We wanted to go with a known company, a bigger company, instead of trying to piece together contractors ourselves. We liked that Avalon stood by the product and the install, and even though pricewise it was more expensive than other approaches, we wanted a no-hassle, happy completion to our flooring project. This is what we thought we paid for. What we got was totally different. Although we liked our choice of tile and grout, there were planks laid down that did not match the pattern and our insistence on thin grout lines was ignored. There were planks with no pattern at all and the grout was twice as thick as we requested. It took time, and the right lighting to definitively determine this flaws in the product and workmanship. This, and staining of the tile after the install that Avalon promised to clean up, led us to contact Avalon, the Ocean Township store, to request that they return to the house. We sent pictures, there were promises made, there were multiple calls over the next several months, and nothing. No visit, no cleaning, no response at all. Please don't reward Avalon Flooring with your business. They were sweet as could be until issues became apparent and then like a bratty little three-year old, they shut down and refused to engage. My husband and I had our hot water heater break causing water damage throughout our downstairs flooring. We decided to replace our entire downstairs laminate with luxury vinyl planking and were looking around at our options. As soon as I went into Avalon and met with Suzanne in their Ocean location I knew I wanted to do business with them! She responded back super promptly via email and helped answer all of our questions. We called around for pricing and Avalon was able to price match the lowest price we found, reducing our total cost by thousands. They continuously stayed within our budget and made sure to let us know how we (my husband) could chip in to minimize some costs. Definitely weren't trying to take advantage at any point in the process! We worked with Avalon's installers, Roger and his team. The day they came in to do installation the found the floors were still wet and suggested ways to alleviate the problem before continuing. They gave us their cell phone number and would come back intermittently to check on the progress and to make sure the water readings were going down. They rescheduled our installation as soon as the floors were ready and did an amazing job! We couldn't be happier with how they came out and were so happy they weren't looking to rush to get the job done without doing it properly. read more

Where do I start... the buying process was pretty easy. We picked out 4 floors but when they came to measure, they said we couldn't use the ones we chosen (engineered). Okay whatever we'll pick new one. 80% down they'll deliver in 2 weeks. Delivered just fine, acclimated in the house for a week. Installation time! Here's where is gets tough. After all the floors were pretty much laid out, Avalon called and said there's a problem. Oh boy. There were gaps in between the floor planks. Not their problem, manufacturers default. Mistakes like this happen i understand. It wasn't the installation or the stores fault. So they take ALL THE floors out ( 6 bedrooms) and told me I had to wait another 2 weeks for a new delivery! So my pregnant wife and I had plywood with a lot of dust for 2 weeks! After 2 weeks of waiting for the new floors, Avalon upgraded the quality of the floors to compensate. After we thought they were finally finished, it's been a process of about 2 months now, they were short 2 boxes of floors! Approximately 60 sq ft. Another 2 weeks later they finally came back to finish the little area they have left. All in all not a the best experience but I understand things are out of their hands. Mind you our clothes in our closets were in our bathrooms. I did however get good communication between store mangers and installation manager Marco. Floors look great but the finishing touches could've been better. Overall it was a rough project as a home owner but the installation manager Marco made it a bit more pleasant with his reassurance. Avalon also did carpet in 2 rooms, those also looked great. read more

I've done many renovation projects over the years requiring many different flooring solutions. This store and its staff is by far the best I've worked with. I recently renovated a 3200sqft apartment with a large open plan kitchen, 4 bathrooms and wet bar. My sales associate (AKA Interior Designer) Kathy Matsikoudis was instrumental in the overall design of all flooring, walls, and back splashes. She was able to tie in all counters, granite and wall colors insuring a clean overall design.....VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. The results were spectacular with many many compliments of the finish product. Her appointment book fills up quick so book time in advance! I also had the opportunity to work with Jillian who came out to measure for stair and area rugs. She was very knowledgeable about installations and selecting the right products for the installation. I was in the middle of a major home renovation (total gut job). Unfortunately my contractor left me in the middle of the job and took a nice chunk of my money with him. Avalon Flooring (Rio Grande) were kind of enough to help me out of a dire situation by selling me the tile at cost. In an age of everyone out to make a buck and not caring about the customer, Avalon Flooring shows there are great companies out there that care for others besides themselves. These people are bad news. Don't go there. The salesgirl ordered the wrong tile which took weeks to get. ( and she wasn't even nice to begin with)....My contractor put it up not knowing it was the wrong tile which I had to pay for their work that day of putting it up and taking it down! Avalon made it like they were doing me a favor by switching it to the right tile.....they didn't even apologize for their mistake and didn't even rush the new order in for me.... To add insult to injury - they made me repay for the new bags if thin-set!!... These pple don't know what they're doing and they're much more expensive than Casile tiles which is right down the road from them! read more

Top to bottom, Awful. We just finished building a custom home, and Avalon was the worst part about it. They missed the mark or just all around sucked on both tile and carpet. Tile: Our builder wanted us to go through avalon, so we went there to shop for tile first. After a lot of back and forth, we got quoted for $7000 for the tile. We thought that was high for what we were doing and ended up finding the same exact tile through our interior designer for $3200. same brand, same quantity, more than double the price. absurd. Carpet: We got roped into going through avalon for the carpet in the bedrooms in order to have it warrantied through our builder. Even though we shopped another supplier and installer (who was much better priced), we went with avalon to maintain a warranty. After installing the overpriced carpet, we noticed it was extremely lumpy after moving in. Multiple visits from their installer, and always another explanation of whats wrong with it. The latest is that they believe its a defective padding. Fair enough, but isn't that something the installer would notice before laying it down in 3 rooms. 3 months later, it has still not been fixed. Go elsewhere. read more

My shower re-tile i picked your store. Salesperson Linda was very helpful, knowledgeable, professional. So was estimator. But the install team was very unprofessional as was Kyle from manahawkin store who responded to my survey. They left a mess on my wall with clear silicone caulk which you cannot paint over and I'm still trying to remove it from ceiling too. They took my drop cloth i put down because they didn't have enough to cover my carpet from bath to front door. I even asked for it back thinking they took it by accident. He just smiled and walked away thought he was going to give it back. Kyle said he would have them drop it off still waiting 2 weeks now. I even complained to Kyle again and nothing thats why i am reviewing here some guarantee that's why i went with avalon to install instead of hiring my own. Very unprofessional. As much as I tried to stay positive and trust the people I worked with, the experience turned out to be mostly negative. The measurements of the tile I presented form my contractor were somehow doubled when it was or refer and since it was a "special order" and was not measured by Avalon people they would not take leftovers back, despite of the salesperson making mistake during ordering. I spent a lot of money remodeling my two bedroom condo and chunk of change was spent at Avalon, but since "their" contractor or installer was not doing a job the salesperson over ordered he tile without me able to return the access . The return policy is 30 days. When was a last time any remodel was done in 39 days( rhetorical question)?!?! It's unfortunate, but they lost my business... My lesson for a future is not to trust anyone behind the counter and make sure before placing the order that amount was just as I requested.... read more

Very disappointing experience. My carpet (which was not inexpensive) came with stains that they did not disclose and was laid with a very noticeable seam. To get my issues addressed required 3 additional visits, (and 4 additional days off work because one was a no show!) several phone calls and it's still only okay. The service was pretty poor. Our experience with Avalon for custom rugs has been pretty bad. The in-store salesperson was nice, but gave us a specific date that our rugs would be available for pickup. Mind you, she suggested that we pick up the rugs rather than having them delivered because she said (1) it's cheaper; and (2) we would get the rugs sooner. But we have had to coordinate to rent/borrow a truck to pick up the rugs based on when they would get in from Avalon. Three weeks later, we still do not have the rugs, and regardless of the number of times I call and speak to someone, nobody can pinpoint a date/time that the rugs will be in. I'm sure the quality of the rugs will be good. But the back and forth of figuring out when things will be available has been frustrating. I'm sure the customer service of a smaller shop would be MUCH better! read more

Went there looking for dark wood floors. I spent 2 hrs with salesgirl who was very helpful and showed me many different styles. I told her I only wanted floor that was finished and smooth with no knots or grainy look. In the showroom they have samples that are 3' long and 2' high. the floor I chose was smooth and beautiful. When the floor was delivered and they took the pieces out of the box all the planks had holes, deep natural holes in it. I was very upset this was not what I ordered and it certainly was not what the salesgirl showed me nor did she tell me. I explained to the gentleman on the phone this was not what I wanted and he said there;s nothing he can do. I told him I was mislead and I would like to exchange it for another floor. He was rude and said that's not possible. Now mind you I spent $12,000 on floors from him the week before and this job was going to cost another $10,000. He did not care and refuse to work with me. I would never recommend this place to anyone. DON"T BUY FLOORS FROM AVALON FLOORING read more

This store has a large selection of tile, wood, carpet, area rugs, even vanities and window treatments. Each area has its own department and they are organized nicely, easy to see the merchandise. They also have many of their flooring installed on the floor and displays with the tile and vanities. This makes it easier to visualize and makes it much easier to shop than the other stores I visited. Their pricing seemed very competitive or in line with other places I have shopped. The sales woman that helped me was very helpful, not pushy at all. She helped me choose tiles for my bathroom project that fit into my budget, but did not look cheap or just like everyone else's . Suggested repair for a 18 month old loophole carpet that got a string loose was to replace the entire room of $1000 carpeting. Harumph! Of course, they'd be happy to sell new carpet (complete with required new padding - for the warranty of course)....I'd go elsewhere. read more
