The owners of the house that we rented really pushed this park in their listing as being a great…read moreplace for kids of all ages to play and have a good time at and to a point that's true but to a point it's not. The two main issues are that number one it really doesn't have a whole lot for older kids to do as a large portion of the play items are for the maybe say seven and under crowd. Number two issue would that while I'm sure this park is a ghost town in the off season, in season it's simply too small for the number of kids/parents who are here everyday from a very early hour to a very late hour. The good stuff would be that the park has a bathroom, if you're into tennis the courts are mostly deserted, the basketball courts are in good shape even though they always were crowded and if you need something while your there you've got either Hoy's, Blitz's, The Scoop Box or the 34th Street Farm and Garden Center all right across the street. Don't get me wrong in that it's great that this place exists versus another block of condo rentals it's just that while it's nice, it just wasn't nearly as nice as the pictures online made it seem nor did it offer as much to do as I imagined. Lesson learned.

Playground equipment looked newer, and well maintained. And it was huge. Lots of equipment appropriate for varied age groups. Bathrooms on site. Real bathrooms!!! Park a couple blocks away to avoid the 2-hr metered parking right around the park.

I love National Parks…read more Not just because I'm patriotic with an environmentalist sensibility -- but because they are time warps of sorts -- a glimpse back at the way things once were and (hopefully) will be for our descendants -- long downstream. The Cape May National Wildlife Refuge is a pleasant respite from the commercialism of Jersey Shore holidays -- its' boardwalk attractions, fast food and fast living. It is well marked and you can bring your binocs along to spot wildlife and unique plants and flora found nowhere else. Better still -- bike in and hop scotch around between dunes and other natural formations -- but avoid crossing into the restricted areas that are clearly marked by Area 51 type warning signs -- lest you want automatic weapon toting humans rousting you. We walked the trails in sand, alongside more poison ivy in one 2 square mile stretch than I have probably seen in my entire life. Bring bug spray, a fishing pole to cast off the jetty -- and maybe even long pants and an epipen if you are especially sensitive to insect stings and poisonous plants. Free bird watching walks are regularly available and -- thankfully -- it is a relatively unpopulated attraction so it is soulful in its solitude.

Access from the beach is closed off by ropes and volunteers monitor those trying to walk the refuge from April thru September 31st. Protected area for migrating and nesting birds. There is a great trails to see the wildlife refuge. It runs parallel to the beach. Guided tours are available. We saw some great birds this summer landing on the beach! My first spotting of an American Oyster Cracker. I only wish I was able to get a picture, happened so fast. Don't forget your binoculars! The butterfly migration in October is really something to see, nature at its best. We have spotted white skunks, and have seen one coyote.

Not impressed by the overly controlling lifeguards on Avalon beach! I have never heard so many…read morewhistle blows from lifeguards either. And they only allow you to swim within a very narrow area in front of their stands- nowhere else, not even wading between stands! I was bodyboarding in the same area for about 45 minutes staying within the boundaries and next thing I know an aggressive lifeguard come over to tell me to move over closer to their stand and if I had done that I could have easily run into any number of small children wading in the shallow area where the waves were depositing me. This makes me not want to even go into the water, nor would I ever recommend this place to swim. I even had a whistle blown at me for wading up to my waist! A total buzz kill! Nope , we won't be returning here next summer! Not worth the aggravation

The sidewalks are laid out in curves which adds to the already awesome visual beauty. Take a seat on one of the benches and watch the activities on the bay. It's a reminder of the important role this area played during World War II, and I appreciated being able to learn more about the history while exploring the area. It's not the longest stop, but it's worth visiting if you're already exploring Cape May Point, the lighthouse, and nearby attractions. A great educational stop that adds more depth to your Cape May experience. Would I come back? Absolutely. It's also on sunset beach if you want to stop by, near gift shop and a restaurant on the beach.

Cape May County Park North (aka Cameron Wildlife Sanctuary) is apparently a hot secret, because…read moreonly one other car was in the parking lot when I was there on a weekday in the summer. This is a BEAUTIFUL park / wildlife refuge. Trails wind everywhere through the woods, to hammock clearings, scenic spots with benches to sit, a few ponds stocked with ripe lilly pads, picnic areas, a park office, etc. This park is extremely well maintained, with no litter anywhere. Yes, DOGS ARE ALLOWED here. Despite contrary info I got from calling the parks office, there are signs stating the rules for dogs to visit the property, dog waste stations with bags, etc. Well behaved, leashed dogs, are permitted. This is a wildlife sanctuary, so it is lucky they have recently chosen to allow this. It's less than a 10 minute walk to the first pond, and that alone is worth the trip. There are little islands in the pond, with benches on them. Really enchanting. The history of this property is that in the late 19th C, sand was mined here to make cement for Ocean City, as well as to make South Jersey Glass. The Great Depression ended production here, and the landowners filled the sand quarries with water, and stocked them for their own leisure fishing. The property was willed to the county in 1988 to be made into a park. In the summer, you MUST wear bug repellent. Even with repellent, I was covered with mosquitoes if I stopped walking for a few seconds. So just beware and be prepared. While picnicking would be serene here, it is probably best to do it in the months when mosquitoes aren't around. Also, gate locks at 4pm sharp!
