I loved this place as soon as I walked in. We have a Border Collie that is a little over a year old that we rescued from the sagebrush outside our house so she is still a bit "wild" but Avalyn's Paw Spa agreed to see us on short notice for a nail trim and did a great job. Daisy loved the environment and got along with the other dogs that were there. Love the large open space and VERY clean! They also recue birds so there is a lovely sound of birdsong that seems to calm dogs. Will definitely be back. read more

The groomer had me hold my dog and as I watched she clipped only half his nails (even after telling me they were too long), cutting several of them so short that they bled and then I had to pay $20. Our 13 YO Sheltie has had skin issues ever since we rescued him 3 years ago. He was under the care of a veterinarian dermatologist and we tried all kinds of antibiotics, steroids, sprays, ointments, medicated shampoos & rinses, and different foods and supplements ($$$$). Cyril had groomed him before and suggested that we try a doggie "mud bath" treatment following the shampoo. It takes a little while to do but we happy with the extra effort and cost. Miraculously his skin improved 100% in the following days and has remained in great shape ever since. We can't thank her enough! And, the dog always looks great afterwards, too. read more

Great experience with both my large and small dogs! Friendly, timely, professional, even got several free face masks offered to me (Id forgotten mine), which was nice. One small issue is that my dogs collar was left hanging up on a wall, and no one mentioned it or gave it to me when I checked out, so I had to drive back to town (40 mins) the next day to get it :-( Maybe regulars know to grab their own dogs collar upon pickup? HUGE recommend. Such a great experience. We reserved 2 days of doggie daycare in advance for our visit to Taos. Avalyn's was so friendly, welcoming and laid back that I didn't feel like we were visitors. Our pup came home happy each day, seemed excited when he got there and the other pups in daycare/boarding seemed happy and excited too. Cyril went out of her way to accomodate an unexpected extra day. She also gave me super good advice about Taos parking and restaurants. And she recommended we go to Ojo Caliente Springs and gave me a lot of info about it. The Springs does not allow dogs and Cyril made it possible, at the last minute, for us to go. Ojo Caliente was just what I needed and I am so grateful for the recommendation and for Cyril making accommodations for our pup so that we could go. She treats her clients, both canine and human, like family. Just awesome!!! read more

My husband and I were recently in our RV not too far from Taos, New Mexico. We have a Doberman who gets his nails done every two weeks when we are at home. I wanted to keep up with his nails schedule while out in the RV and contacted Avalyn's Paw Spa to see if they could do his nails. The owner of Avalyn's was so nice and fit our boy into her schedule twice despite the complications of COVID 19. She was absolutely wonderful with our Doberman (having his nails dremeled are not his favorite thing) and she did a fabulous job on his nails. Cyril was so wonderful from the beginning. We came from out of town on Labor Day and she was able to make accommodations for our Newfie, Bella. Bella felt right at home the minute she arrived and we were able to enjoy our three day vacation with no worries of Bella, cause we knew she was in excellent hands. One of my dogs was sprayed by a skunk, right in the face, a few days before leaving for a road trip. I tried washing it out on my own with apple cider vinegar and soap, but the next day, she still reaked. The next day I just happened to notice the Avalyn's Paw Spa when I was next door at the glass auto shop. I asked Cyril if she could squeeze us in that day. Even though she had a full day, she fit my dog in and even groomed my other dog, too. By the end of our visit, there virtually no odor left. Their coats looked beautiful, and she gave my pups really cute bandanas that they sported in style on our road trip. Can't recommend enough! read more

This will be a hard review to write. On 8/31 we dropped our two small dogs off for their first groom at this salon. As we don't live in the area, we were relieved to see such good reviews posted on Yelp and Google. I will cut to the chase...the salon was hectic when we dropped our kids off at 10:00. Big dogs roaming everywhere and a staffing issue had created an unforeseen back-up in grooming. We totally understand these things happen and left them around 10:00 to be picked up at 2:00ish. When we picked them up (a bit late, more like 3:00) the salon was quieter and our dogs were in their kennel. The grooming (by Cyril) itself was fine. Honestly just a few missed hairs is nothing. I would have been fine with the whole experience except for what I witnessed. As we were paying for our grooming appointment, I watched a staff member named Mariah sitting on a rolling stool in the hallway using a furminator brush on a medium sized white male dog. She was using it so aggressively that the dog was crying out, and as I would expect, trying to nip at her hands. Those brushes can really hurt if not used properly and she was ripping that dogs hair out. Instead of taking a break and treating the dog more kindly when he was obviously uncomfortable, she slapped the dog in the face three different times, then put a lead muzzle around his mouth and jerked his head up so hard the dog cried out. She spoke so aggressively and showed no patience or kindness to that animal and I have to tell you I was shocked and pissed. As soon as Mariah noticed me watching her, she tried to act like she was being more patient but it wasn't genuine. When I told the owner what I witnessed and that I was so concerned she could have done something similar to our dogs, she stated that "Mariah was a good employee and she would talk to her and watch her more closely as that was unacceptable". We will not be back and if you're the dog parent to a medium white long haired dog that was being groomed on 8/31/17 around 3:00 in the afternoon, I would be calling to find out what exactly happened to your dog. It was appalling. read more

We just took our sweet Lillibelle to Avalyn's Paw Spa for a nail trim. What may seem like a run of the mill need for many pups has truly been such a challenge for us since rescuing her in 2015. It took us many months before she would let us touch her paws or nails and though we were able to get that far, it has been nearly impossible to trim her nails all of this time. In nearly two years her nails were only trimmed once, and that was when she was sedated for something else. And even with heavy sedation, it was traumatic for her and for us. Fast forward to now and Lilli's nails were so long, she was literally slipping on the floors, getting caught in every soft surface she walked on and beginning to struggle with just walking. We were truly desperate when we met Cyril at Avalyn's. Cyril took great care of both Lillibelle and of us. She encouraged us to leave Lilli with her and her team for about 90 minutes. This way, Lilli could get used to the new environment, socialize with the other dogs (which she normally avoids doing) and they could take things a step at a time with her. She also encouraged my husband and I to try a local spot for some lunch in the meantime to help take our minds off of our nervousness and fear. All great advice. We went to the local restaurant, ordered a LARGE margherita to take the edge off of our nerves and some lunch. Cyril said she'd call if there was any issue or if Lilli just would not cooperate. When we hadn't heard from her after an hour, we hoped for the best. Upon returning to get Lilli, we saw her sitting at the gate calmly waiting for us to arrive. We walked in and to our amazement, Cyril and her team were able to get to ALL FOUR of Lilli's paws. I cannot express what an achievement this is, given the past experiences with her. We were FLOORED. I nearly cried with joy. Needless to say, the folks at Avalyn's helped us beyond measure. We will make the hour's drive back regularly as we know Lillibelle will be in excellent care with Cyril and her team. And maybe next time, I won't need the margherita (but I may have one anyway!). I took our dog, who is a Shiba Inu, in to have a bath and a very thorough brushing and that is exactly what he got. A Shiba has a double coat like a Husky and it is very hard to de-fur him. Avalyn's did a very good job, he looks like a different dog now! They were friendly and stuck to their time estimate. read more

We took Gandolf our 18 month old Labrador to seriel while we went skiing at TAos for the day! Her staff was great, spent time with him walking him and then groomed him! I'll just add one general and one specific comment: First, if you can avoid services in Taos generally, it's a good thing. This is just northern New Mexico, not Cozumel or Barcelona, and service is pretty poor here. Plan your spending for unusual meals, art, local flavors that you can take home. Services like hair care, for your dog or yourself, are priced for the rich and famous. If you have that kind of money, good for you. It may not matter to you how it is spent. But I'm not that guy, and my specific comment is this: there is no price list of services in evidence at the Paw Spa. Baths are encouraged so that expensive products are used and up charged. Baths and coat clips for 2 dogs--over $200 with tax. And do I want to look like a cheapskate and fail to add a tip? The quarter grand I dumped there should have bought something that will last a while longer and look better. My mutts are more comfortable, and that's a good thing. I just wish I'd put $250 into clippers and scissors so I could do the next doggie shave myself. Live and learn. read more

Definitely a 5-Star Review of Cyril's grooming of my Golden Doodle! Emmy Lou came home looking adorable and was trimmed just the way we like her. Her fur was still long (not shaved) as we had hoped and a few special requests were followed. Before trimming, Cyril called me twice during the time she was grooming the dog to make sure I was OK with what she was about to do. Emmy Lou was done in good time and when I picked her up, she was not locked in a little cage but rather was happy and wandering free with other friendly dogs in the salon. Folks at this salon seem to sincerely understand and like dogs. Great customer service. Although the price is higher than I am used to paying, I will always return to Avalyn's to get Emmy Lou groomed and trimmed. read more

The owner asked about my father I told her he was very ill and it was unknown if he was going to make it. She was so kind to do the nail trim for free. Best place to take your dogs for a wonderful groom. My shih tzu loves this place and looks better than ever. She used to be scared to deathat the groomer and I felt horrible when I would leave her. I called Cyril to see about a nail cutting for my basset hound mix, Lucy. She took me the same day, and comped the whole visit since my dog is a rescue. Clearly this woman has a big heart and is doing it for the love of animals. She was so gentle and kind with Lucy, recognizing her skiddishness and reassuring her with kisses and soft words. She even cleaned Lucy's ears and gave her a cute bandana. If that wasn't enough, Cyril recommended an herbal tincture made by a local guy to help calm Lucy in moments of separation anxiety. I bought and tried it and, guess what? the stuff works! This was easily the best pet groomer experience I've ever had- don't take your dog anywhere else! read more

Absolutely amazing. My husband, son and I literally left with tears in our eyes. We took our son's Norwegian Elkhound in for his very first grooming visit. He was nervous but the young man who bathed and dried him was fantastic. Then came Cyril for the grooming and shaving of his coat. She was amazing with him. Everyone was so friendly. while talking with her she realized my husband was a disabled Army veteran and to say thank you she wouldn't let us pay for the grooming, wash, or comb. We were traveling through the area in our motorhome and our two dogs needed grooming. I am so pleased with the grooming they received here. Lovely place, very warm and welcoming. The dogs are allowed to just walk and sniff around instead of being placed in a kennel. Very secure too because there are double gates at both doors so that escape artists can't get out. One of our dogs is old and kinda grouchy but she did well here due to the calm atmosphere and Cyril's TLC. I highly recommend this place. read more

I have to say 5 stars, because the customer service was outstanding. I really appreciate that they didn't drug my cat for her hair-cut and claw trimming. The only thing I would do different is to communicate exactly what I want to the groomer. I didn't actually meet her (no fault of anyone's) and I gave directions to the front desk of how I wanted the cut to look. I wasn't detailed enough. They did exactly as I asked for the mane and tail, but I wasn't specific about the legs. I was going for a "Lion cut" and they were right on except for the legs...because I wasn't specific about the legs, I assumed. My husband and I were in Taos for our anniversary, and Cyril helped make our trip awesome!! We brought our two terriers with us and for one of our days there we needed a place for day care and baths. I am so impressed by how clean and beautiful her salon is. It has a great vibe from the moment you walk in the door. It's fresh and spacious, and has lovely plants and birds in the main lobby. She let our dogs play with other small dogs during their stay and when we picked them up they were clean and smelled nice but also seemed happy and content from their day. It's never easy to leave your fur babies with someone new but I'm very grateful that Cyril cares so much about the dogs that it was clear they were in good hands. I appreciated how secure the building was too, it's clear she takes their safety seriously. Her other employee seemed very kind and gentle with the dog he was working with too!
