So very sad to have such a horrible experience with my veterinarian office. We saw the new girl who allowed the appointment to get out of hand. The technician was a major bitch. Had to ask her to leave the room. The receptionist was a bigger bitch. It was horrible and my little dog was shaking from all the tension. Just happy I don't need to go there again. This week we took our two dogs in for routine vaccines. Everyone was great from Ethan, the tech, to the front desk with Jessica and Chrystal. Our dogs are Taos rescues and one is a tad quirky so the patience and kindness was extra appreciated. TSV has been our "home away from home" for over 20 years. We love Dr. Schupbach and his team. It pains us to see recent reviews and hope these are just anomalies. We did see there is a different second vet now from two years ago when we had an emergency. I had a really nice experience yesterday and today. Joe (the receptionist) got me in with my sick doggy and showed incredible compassion. Liz was great as well as Saxon. The humanity shown really makes a difference. So often customer service is cold and heartless, especially here in Taos. I've been using TVC for almost 40 years and will continue. I've been taking my animals to Taos Vet for 25 years. I believe all the 5 star reviews and the one star reviews. It's a busy practice with a lot of staff. Today, the reception was quite competent and friendly and the vet tech was as well. I can't tell you about the vet. She came to see my dog for a couple minutes without introducing herself and he was taken back for an x-ray. The vet tech brought the dog back with a couple prescriptions for early congestive heart failure. I asked the tech some questions and he went and asked the vet and came back to give me the answers. I wanted less than 5 minutes of her time for questions. She didn't come and explain anything to me. Inexcusable. Schupbach teach these youngsters some professionalism and bedside manners! read more

This has been my regular vet for at least ten years. Yesterday, my chihuahua was seriously injured by a bird attack and I rushed her to my vet from Questa. The front desk staff (eating lunch at their desks) suggested I take her to the emergency vet in either Alamosa or Santa Fe, this was at 1:30 in the afternoon! Only one of the three staff members demonstrated ANY level of compassion but still insisted I would need to go to Santa Fe or Alamosa. I never saw my vet, they were out of the office for an hour for a lunch. I called Salazar Veterinary and was told to bring her in and they'd see her between patients, ASAP. I cannot recommend Salazar vet clinic enough. The entire staff were compassionate, kind and took great care of my little dog who, ended up requiring major surgery (which Dr. Maxam performed). They have already followed up this morning to see how she's doing. I could not be more pleased and will NEVER go back to Taos Veterinary. To Taos Veterinary Clinic, if you are overwhelmed and understaffed, and cannot even offer kindness or compassion to humans or animals, maybe it's time to close your doors. read more

Ted Schubach has been my vet for over 40 years. He is awesome and always has been there for our many pets over the years. The pandemic has changed the face of veterinary care in Taos. Many people moved to Taos with pets, overloading the already busy clinics in town. We only have 2 vet clinics for all of Taos County. Last year we had a dog emergency and rushed to Taos Vet only to find they were closed for lunch! So we rushed to Salazar Vet and received care only to return to Taos Vet after the crisis had subsided. When Dr Schubach was not overwhelmed by the shear need in Taos...he would make house calls to care for dying pets. In the last year we needed our elder chihuahua put down and he graciously came out to our car to euthanize our Venny in our arms. These are not cold heartless people...they are overworked and overwhelmed. They have compassion and heart and I am sorry that anyone may feel different. They can only see so many patients in a day. They only have 2 doctors. People have forgotten what Covid did to our healthcare system. read more

We had a great experience here. While in Angel Fire our dog got stung by something and it turned into a mess. The local vet in AF was away. We called Taos VC after hours and they waived us in. Worse than one star! Not my regular vet but today due to bad weather went there to buy dog food. While there, I witnessed a young man carry in his severely injured and bleeding dog, that had been hit by a car, in desperate need of care or euthanasia be denied any kind of help or care. I stayed with him, as we both cried while his dog passed away in his arms, in the parking lot. The lack of compassion and care for this poor dog and his owner is very upsetting and disgraceful. Taken a long time to write this review, but let me start by saying how much I loathe even driving by Taos Veterinary. Took my very senior dog to be euthanized a few months back and it was a traumatic experience to say the least. This place has no heart. While my wife and I sat on the ground comforting our boy, two men walked in, did not introduce themselves or even try to make my dog comfortable. They literally came in, hoisted him on the table without a word and started going to town. He even tried to nip at them he was so stressed out. What an awful way to die as these 2 piles of human garbage turned and walked without a word. Don't go here. I know there aren't many options, but this place is an awful place with awful people working there. read more

My cat died today after they refused to let me bring her in on an emergency basis. I have been in their office before and had to wait while they took care of other emergencies! I was a client of theirs with 3 different cats, so why. You can never make the front desk understand and all they do is say how busy they are and no appointments for a couple weeks. Then said they would call me back and did not. This was after about 3 phone calls trying to being my cat in on emergency. read more

Awful vet. Very rude front desk, never helpful or compassionate, on the contrary so cruel. It is hard to understand how such mean people can decide to be in a healing job. Both our cat and dog had very bad experiences here and this place actually prescribed them wrong medications and made their health worse. We spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars here. I really wanted to continue coming to them due to prior good experiences and called well in advance for an appointment . I gave leeway on the front and back end to ensure it didn't conflict with a work appointment . After sitting outside for 45 minutes with no one coming to check on me, I was advised that there were other patient emergencies. When asking for a reschedule, they couldn't schedule something for 20+ days out. The front desk staff was unapologetic and flippant. Awesome!! Can't express my appreciation more. My chihuahua was due to have her litter any day- so she came along to escape the city madness and enjoy the mountain fresh air. Day before we are leaving to go home- she goes into labor. First pup delivered no problem- second pup was stuck. 8:30 at night Dr Schupbach answered the after hour number and said- Yes- bring her! Even though it took me an hour drive down the mountain- he was ready for us with a smile! Took care of Coco immediately. We have 3 healthy pups and mom is recovering well. He did a great job with her and was conscious of the babies as well. His price for an after hour emergency section was the SAME as my vet charges at home for a non-emergency!! For several years now, he has listened to our concerns and preferences and taken them into consideration before proceeding with the care given. Outcomes have been appropriate to the circumstances. Our 13 year old Shih Tzu had altitude sickness on our recent trip to Taos. I placed a late night emergency call to Dr. Schupbach, and was able to take her to see him the next day. He explained what was wrong, and gave her medicine to keep the fluid off of her lungs. We were scared that we were going to lose her while on our trip, and Dr. Schupbach's care helped our fur baby to recover and she's back to normal now that we're back home in Texas. My family has been bringing our dogs here for over 30 years. Today my dog got a large cut on her leg. When we called to schedule an emergency visit they said they had NO availability and we would have to be put on a call wait list to be seen. The receptionist was very rude and curt. When we asked about an emergency response she said we would have to call around to find someone else to help us. After calling the only other vet in the area they informed us that Taos Veterinary Clinic was the only location taking emergency services for the weekend. Or any after hour calls for this weekend at an extremely high additional fee of $110 extra on top of whatever costs for the visit. Any professional veterinary clinic should have an aloted time scheduled in to handle emergencies, especially if you are the ONLY facility handling emergencies for the weekend. This is a rural area, there are only two Veterinary clinics here. In an EMERGENCY situation like this, I shouldn't have to beg for professionals to do their job and help my family. read more
