I went in with a badminton racket I needed stringed and asked for 26lb tension. It was pretty pricey compared to other stringing places, about $36 for bg65 titanium, but Avanti was the closest place to me. When I got the racket back, the string tension was inconsistent throughout the racket and definitely below 26lbs (around 24lb and even lower on some areas). I asked for a restring, to which they said they couldn't go above 25lb and offered me a 50% refund. Now I understand they're a tennis shop and have limitations to what they can do for badminton rackets, but I feel like they should've told me their max tension before I paid. Now I lost $18 and have to find another place to get my racket properly stringed. Aside from that, the people I spoke to were nice so I didn't rate lower, but I definitely won't be going back. read more

So what if Avanti Sports' gear is marked up 10% from other tennis stores and they have no parking. Did I mention that it's the only place where I can get tennis gear in the city! It's also the only place demo rackets in the area. It's easier to sign up for their demo program as it was when I had to make an appointment at the Planned Parenthood for my pregnancy scare (it turned out that I was just getting fat...and not preggers). You fill out a short form and you can borrow two rackets for three days. If you need it longer you just call in and ask for an extension. The demo program at no cost which is amazing since most tennis stores charge you $50 to join and then you get $50 off a racket purchase. The problem is that they don't carry that many rackets. And since the demo program is free all the cheap bastards in Seattle make a run on good rackets in the summer and when it's sunny. That meant that one time I went in and saw literally only three rackets left on the demo wall (yes there are that mean cheapo's in the area). But if you really want to try out a certain racket you can put yourself on a list and they'll call you when it's available. They also carry apparel and plenty of shoes. To get you racket restrung it'll run you around $15 and two days if they're busy. They have a decent string collection but you'll still have to order online if you're looking for a specific brand of string. It's also the only place in Seattle to get your racket's restrung other than the Amy Yee Tennis Center. The employees are really knowledgeable about tennis. The person who runs the place is really passionate about the store. As soon as you walk through their doors someone will come help you. The first time I was there and trying to find a replacement for my Volkl Tour 10 gen II they didn't have it but asked if I wanted to try the new generation Boris Becker 11. They immediately strung the racket and tagged it as a demo since it was new and that's how I got into their demo program. Unfortunately as I walked out the store I realized that they gave me that Boris Becker 11 mid rather than the midsized but I did appreciate that they went through all the trouble for me. The only negative issue I have with the store other than the prices and lack of parking is that one time I demoed a racket that was brand new. When I took it home I noticed that one of their strings wasn't properly stung through the grommet. It probably wouldn't make a difference to most people but when you're a tennis geek like me you notice these things. Just so you know that it has become a prerequisite that you play tennis if you want to go on a date with me. Not that there's anyone who's jumping at the chance but you do you'll find out that I lied before and I do pick my ass like Rafa between points. You know it's SEXY! read more

I wanted to like Avanti more than Sturtevants. However, they recently restrung my racquet and it is the worst, non accomodating to my hitting style, set of strings I have ever hit with. I told them to string it with a string set comparable to my last, at a tension of 59 (which is always how it's strung). I wouldn't necessarily write a bad review only about that though-- I'd probably give them another chance. Get this though-- THEY ONLY HAVE CLAY COURT TENNIS BALLS!!! Is that a joke?! There are no clay courts around Seattle!! Furthermore, there balls are $4 a can which is at least 100% markup. If Avanti wants to be a major player for good players in Seattle, I suggest the get someone who knows what they are doing with stringing racquets. And, have someone who plays tennis ordering your balls!! Even Costco can get that right and they are not a tennis specific store! read more

They gave me the wrong string and didn't apologize or offer to re-string. I had an 18 gauge string on the racket and told them I wanted the exact same string. When I went to pick up the racket, I noticed it was the 17 gauge. They said "this string doesn't come in 18 gauge". I was 100% positive that's what I had previously. Guy looks it up on his computer, says "oh yeah, they make it in 18 gauge. We just don't carry it.". That's it. Last year, I went to Sturtevant's in Bellevue. They put on the wrong string and when I pointed this out to them, they apologized, and had my re-string done in 20 minutes. They were very apologetic and very accommodating. They even closed the store a few minutes late because they were fixing my strings. Completely different experience than I had at Avanti when they messed up. Not to mention the same strings at Sturtevant's was a few bucks cheaper than at Avanti. read more

This is my first review for a reason. What a horrible spot. I gave them a racquet for a re string and a new head guard. That was 2 months ago. They forgot about my racquet for two months. I called twice during this time, was told I would get a call back, and I never did. Finally, someone apologizes profusely in a voicemail and says he will have the owner call me. The next day, I speak with the owner on the phone. He is not apologetic at all. Instead of admitting that they had simply forgotten about the racquet (as his employee had already admitted), he claimed that the head guard had been very difficult to find. But that he had happened to look again that morning (after two months) and had found it. He stated it would arrive in about a week. That was two weeks ago. I finally get a voicemail today where they asked me to schedule a specific time to pick up my racquet. Two and a half months later....it appears I'm finally going to get my racquet back! I was not offered a discount. The only apology I was offered by the employee was quickly voided by the owner making up excuses as to why the head guard hadn't come in. You don't look for a head guard for two months and then *happen* to find it on the morning the owner has to call the customer. Bad service. High prices. Avoid. read more

Price, Wilson, Babolat, Nike...they got it all. They always have sales and specials going on so be sure you check out their website and sign up for their mailing list. They offer private lessons and tennis camps. The staff is very knowledgable in products and most of them also are tennis instructors as well. I can't say enough good things about Avanti's Tennis Camp. Roger Mark, owner/tennis instructor and his crew rock! Avanti's weeklong tennis camps are well worth the price. You get sports conditioning, drills, game practice and lots of 1:1 instruction from a group of fun, experienced instructors. Even with a large group, the staff makes every effort to provide individual coaching. I highly recommend this as an entry into learning or if you need to brush up on your skills and haven't played in a while. This camp will fire you up and get you playing again. The Avanti Tennis Store store is also worth a visit. The staff there are knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. They also offer stringing for your racket. They offer a wide selection of rackets, clothes, books, etc...everything tennis. If tennis is your game, this is a must stop for you. read more

My wife and I had a great experience here. We are just getting into tennis, and came to this store based on a recommendation from a friend. We called ahead and asked about the racket demo program, and the lady we spoke with was super helpful and friendly. We then went to the store in-person on a Saturday afternoon, where Roger (the store owner) was incredibly helpful and knowledgable. The store has a big selection of gear and apparel. Roger took great care to get us set up with rackets that fit our individual grips and swing style after swinging a few around outside in the sidewalk. In the end, my wife and I were both very excited by our purchases, and couldn't have been happier by our experience shopping at Avanti! As we checked out, Roger even threw in a free can of balls because he was so excited for us starting off with the sport! We will definitely be back!! read more

I am very disappointed with my recent experience with this store. I have purchased several items in the past and enjoyed supporting a local store. However, my latest experience has been bad. I purchased a pair of tennis shoes two weeks ago. The store owner told me to try them out and see if I liked them. I took that to mean that if they did not work I could return them and exchange them for something else. Well they did not work. In fact, they made my ankles bleed during a match. I brought them back and was told by the owner that he would not exchange them and that I should try lacing them differently! I find this ridiculous. If I had bought them direct from adidas they would allow an exchange. If I had bought them from Tennis Express they would allow an exchange. All I can say is I will no longer be shopping at Avanti or recommending them to anyone. I gave this rating 2 stars because the employee at the store was a very nice man. read more

Avanti provided excellent service and gave me a fair price, I could not ask for more out of a tennis store. When I had a particular tennis racquet in mind I called Avanti and asked if they had it. I was told that they did not have it but that their sister store in Bellevue did. The racquet was delivered to the store that very day, and they offered to re-string it for me for no additional charge. The service was great at Avanti and the price for the racquet was identical to the best bargains I could find online. Now if they only sold tennis skills I would be ecstatic. read more

I've been heading to Avanti for two seasons now, instead of TW.com, which was where I shopped for the last decade. They price match everything to TW, so its been an easy choice to demo from them and purchase (the $25 you pay for demo goes to your racquet; TW charges ~$20 for shipping demos and unless its a promo you don't get it towards a new racquet). I decided to write a review after getting my fourth racquet restrung in less than a day turnaround - I was told it would take about two days, and all four times its been ready in less than a day, which is always a pleasant surprise. Good service in helping pick out a racquet, especially if you are just starting. My bad experience was trying to buy tennis shoes from them. I realized after 15 mins of wearing that I needed a half size more. They wouldn't exchange it; totally unreasonable and bad customer service in that regard (the sales person, who was great, actually tried to reason with the owner about it, but the owner wouldn't budge). My advice would be to try out the shoes there and buy them from Zappos instead. read more

Walked in today (Sunday) asking for a beginner/intermediate racquet in the $100 range. Was told pretty bluntly that they didn't carry that quality/price of racquet. The guy working there didn't even pause from restringing the racquet he was working on to show me anything in the store after he gave me the brush off. No explanation of why they didn't carry sub $150 racquets. No offer to help me understand why I might need to spend a bit more. All in all, this was a terrible shopping experience. read more

They take great care of people. Some people prefer Sturtevants. I think that, perhaps, their selection might be a little bit more limited; but if you want people who care, are willing to offer advice, will string a racquet in an hour or two when it matters, and a store that contains nothing but high quality tennis gear, Avanti is for you. He knew the products he carried, took the time to ensure the shoes fit me (we tried several different kinds and pairs), and was great to work with.
