The owner's dog is off leash. He didn't either leash the dog or call back his dog immediately after we asked whose dog is unleashed. He didn't show any care after we complained about his dog being unleashed. The lady drives ice cream truck ( maybe his wife/ friend) kept on saying that his dog is friendly. Refused to leash the dog and the attitude of the lady is extremely bad and not responsible. They are right next to the playground. Being a friendly dog doesn't give you the right to break the law. We appreciate his business here but being an irresponsible dog Owner putting community and his own dog at risk. read more

Was really looking forward to paddle boarding this afternoon, but things did not go as planned due to the lack of organization at Perfect Wave! I called in the morning and asked if they were offering SUP rentals today, and Bobby said yes. Then, around 5:50pm, I arrived at the rental shop only for it to be closed despite it usually being open until 7pm. There are no signs, so I call again and Bobby says that they are closed due to no staff and bad weather (the bad weather being 70 degrees). I understand the staffing shortages, but at least update your website or inform customers when they call. I drove all the way here and wasted precious gas for this! This surfshop is behind a home with a big board on the side as a marker. Don't let that deter you. Go into the driveway and drive along the side of the house and all the way to the back and you will see the The Perfect Wave Surfshop. This is a small shop that practically carries everything you need for paddle boarding and then some. We came by on a Sunday to take a look at some boards and spoke to Rosemary. She was quite patient with all my Sweetie's questions. She was a plethora of information! My Beau was undecided on a what type of board he wanted so Rosemary suggested he test run a couple of the boards. We scheduled some time the week after and met with Bobby at Houghton Beach. It's $50 to try out the boards, which will go back into your purchase. Just to note, he does accept credit cards at the beach. Bobby and his team put the boards out on the water and he even let my beau borrow an all-carbon fiber ZRE paddle. My beau tried out a 14' race board and their 126s planing board. Bobby even went as far as to paddle out with him and give him a few tips. I thought that was awesome! Bobby was patient and amazing with all his passion and knowledge for paddle boarding. He answered all of my beau's questions and then some! Well, my beau ended up falling in love with both boards. Oh no! He ended up with the 126s planing board and a ZRE paddle as an upgrade. (For the Seahawks fans, this is the exact same board Pete Carroll purchased. OK, I just had to throw that tidbit in there.) You can't go wrong with a paddle that weights less than a pound. It makes a humongous difference when you're paddling for quite some time. We ended up going back to the shop to meet up with Rosemary so she can assist us with the purchase. I ended up with a new ZRE paddle for myself and a new fin for my paddle board and also purchased a few additional accessories. The shop has everything! Rosemary cut my paddle to size on the spot. She also assisted my Beau in making sure the board was strapped on the car properly. I would definitely check out Bobby's shop. If you're not sure about purchasing a board just yet, check out his rental tent out in Houghton Beach Park. He's right next to the playground area. You can miss it. Perfect Wave gave us a perfect day on the lake! Highly recommend to anyone - experienced or beginner - to head to Houghton Beach and enjoy a great time paddling or kayaking. We were a group of 2 teens & 1 adult beginners, so we scheduled a lesson with Eric today - WE HAD A GREAT TIME! He was really helpful with walking us through techniques and basics to get us comfortable on the boards; then he joined us for a leisurely paddle, letting us set the pace, plus practice our balance and steering. We had gorgeous conditions - sunny, warm, slight breeze and very few waves which my group appreciated. I will definitely be heading back to explore more of the lake and try other boards. read more

Bobby sells Excel wetsuits, gloves and booties, and I've had great luck with them (one of my Excel suits lasted 6 years). I have bought 4 boards from Bobby, one of them custom shaped, and have to admit his craftsmanship, detail, and quality are top notch. Perfect Wave is a small shop but non-imposing. Great kayak rentals at Houghton beach! Single Kayak: $20/hour Double Kayak: $30/hour Life vests and paddles are included in the price. Cash and credit card are accepted. We had some time to kill while in Kirkland so rented a double kayak for an hour. The employee was friendly and let us get in the boat without paying till the end, since the credit card machine hadn't arrived yet. Cheaper and more active than a movie! read more

I have been coming to this place for years. I love how relaxed they are and thats why I keep coming back. There are life vests available, you do sign a safety waiver, so at the end of the day you are responsible for yourself and those you let onto the water. This was my first SUP experience and it was amazzzinnnggg! They offer a variety of different kinds of boards, making each time you do it a little different. The location is also perfect, it goes directly into a really wide part of the lake so it is easy to steer clear of boats and easy to get back. Love this place! read more

Renting a SUP from Bobby (as the others mentioned a pro from dover, he's the tan guy who definitely looks like a surfer), it was pretty good quality one too! I've rented from a number of places around the area and his was definitely one of the better ones. Location paddled: Houghton Beach, they also rent out, I believe, in Juanita Beach. The Houghton place felt pretty rough water-wise but perhaps because I was newer then / the day I was out was windy. I would recommend this place for renting as you don't have to haul the board out / across a street as I've have to do several times at other places. Perfect Wave has fantastic customer service. We originally rented boards where Steve paddled out with us describing the various boards, paddles, and possibilities. He definitely enhanced our excitement for the sport. We bought Perfect Wave boards a week later where Rosemary went out of her way to accommodate us and was exceedingly patient with our endless "beginner" questions. We absolutely love the boards she suggested for us. Recommendation: Try taking a lesson with Perfect Wave. Our speed and stability greatly improved afterwards. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CARELESS BUSINESS- DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. Rented a paddle board for my teen son, who quickly floated out into the lake. No life vests were given. When frantically telling the attendant he wasn't able to paddle back he laughed and said i was an overly concerned mom. After an hour of me calling the cost guard, running around asking boat owners if they could take me out to help him, he rescued himself after floating by a police boat. Nothing was done by attendant at all to help or even call 911. When talking to the owner over the phone at how chocked i was, he could care less and offered our money back but he never did. After looking them up and seeing that their website is covered with halfway naked teen girls- how do any of you support these guys? Its awful! someone should really do an investigation on these people. read more

I called them looking for a poly repair kit and they said that they had one in stock. I said I'd be coming right in and they said no problem. I drove there only to find out they didn't even open until 1 (it was around 11am). It would have been nice if they had told me that on the phone, but I figured it was my fault for not checking. Had my girlfriend go over there the next day to pick it up and they told her that they didn't have any repair kits for a poly board and that if I wanted to, bring in the board and they'd repair it for me. I know surf shops tend to be on the flaky and spacey side, but I thought this was ridiculous. The last time I ever go there. read more
