OMG I love this place! I so wish there was one closer to me, I would eat there all the time. The pumpkin curry dish and burrito are so good-- I'm addicted. The only negative is this place is so small and more of a takeaway type of restaurant. Love the area it is in and after a hike this is a great place to go for some Indian fusion cuisine. Let's be clear. You won't find cloth napkins and fancy silverware. In fact, there are 4 tables in the "joint" But let me just be succinct here. This will be the best burrito you ever had. I recommend the eggplant. My wife had the chicken. I took home a sweet potato and chicken. How should I describe these? Well, just eating the end of the tortilla (boy are these special, and like nothing else you ever had), which had a little of the eggplant on it, I was sold. The rest of the flavors soon followed, and it was orgasmic (can I say that?). Next time I will try the rice dishes. Essentially the same stuff but served on basmati. Order a side salad if you like. Big enough for 2. Then walk around one of the great downtowns. This is for one of those occasions when you want to prove how cool you are. You won't be struck with the decor, but the food is what you came for. You will be thrilled by what great simple and authentic food is like. read more

Piping hot - thick homemade hand rolled whole wheat wraps brimming with curried vegetables (perfectly cooked), pickled carrots, chutney with optional add-ins. I chose pumpkin and sea bass and chose well. The sea bass was fresh (the owner explained they get a morning delivery everyday in response to my moaning) and generous. This is a burrito place and an amazing one at that. They use roti/paratha kind of bread in wrap and not a Naan. This is good as you get much nicer flavor. I ordered the basic burrito with garbanzo beans, rice, curry etc. It was amazing. My friends ordered, chicken, pumpkin etc options. All of us loved the food very much. It was very tasty, flavors were balanced and the quantity was good. The place is very small with 2 tables inside and 2 outside. Since, it was cold/rainy out side and we were just arriving from a difficult hike we decided to wait for tables inside. Lot of parking in the area, one of the spots took only quarters and we were lucky that one of my friends had quarters lying some where in his hiking pack bottom. Who carries quarters now a days!? (Really 2.5 stars) This place was ok. It's not as good as the Avatar's that does enchiladas. I had the basic burrito so I could sample the base fare. It was, well, a little too basic. It just didn't really have enough flavor, which is almost hard to do with Indian food. Are they watering it down for the Mill Valley folks? I dunno. I just wanted more of anything in it that had flavor, other than more chick peas. What do they really taste like anyway? It's worth checking out - they have a few veggie options and lots of meaty burritos, so maybe these are tastier than the basic. I'll give it one more try! This place is great, and the service is friendly in a distinctly Indian way: simultaneously funny, disarming, and enveloping. Few restaurants embody as much of the true vibe of India as Avatar's. Plus, the food is slammin'. California meets India in one of the coolest and least predictable ways at Avatar's. read more

Went here before a day of hiking. Ordered the curry chicken burrito and the rock shrimp burrito. The rock shrimp burrito was pretty good although there was very little shrimp in there. The curry chicken was pretty dry and dont think i would get that again. Overall for the price of two burritos and a drink came out to $20.00. Not really worth it imo. Dont think i would come back. What a neat concept. Not 100% veg, but they do have several veg options. They don't use ghee in any of their items, but if vegan, request no yogurt. I had a tasty concoction of spinach, collard greens and tofu over basmati rice with sides of chutney and chickpeas. You can either order your entree in a whole wheat wrap (sort of like thin naan) or on a metal plate. There are a couple of outdoor tables along with a few inside. The pappadam is excellent, perfectly spicy. Great place to eat lunch outdoors on a nice spring day. read more

Saw this place while walking around downtown Mill Valley, punjabi burrito!, you really can't go wrong with this combination so I had to try it. Being vegetarian my options are always limited at any place. But I still tried the pumpkin and curried vegetable options. The burrito was decent, liked the option of replacing bean with indian choole (garbanzo beans) and some indian spices. But it was a little too bland for my palate. I was expecting it to be more spicy and hot. Considering this place mostly caters to American in the neighborhood, the spices might be more suited to their tastes. The vegetarian curry had a strange mix of vegetables - potatoes, eggplant, broccoli and carrots. Also the sauces weren't mixed well so the burrito was sweet & salty in patches. This place is excellent. Literally a hole in the wall, but a great blend of fusion flavors. The dessert was really interesting; couldn't quite figure it out but it was delicious. The lassi was a little sour. My wife's burrito was delicious (curried chicken) and my jerk chicken was so good I got another plate to go (late night snack!). Indian food is my favorite, so I was intrigued when I saw this little place next to a great pizza place (Small Shed Flatbread). Fairly good curries, but the don't really work as advertised. The "burrito" was either a thick tortilla or a thin naan, but was really greasy and too small for the curry. It ended up being quite a mess and hard to eat out of a plastic basket. read more

I love this place! I have been a regular customer for over 6 years. The vegetarian burrito and the jerk chicken burrito are among my favorite. Our family loves to get our food here and walk over to Old Mill Park and eat among the redwood trees. Our now 7 year old son has grown up on a special cup of rice, potatoes, chickpeas and "special sauce" always topped off by a squirt of delicious tamarind sauce that they let him squirt on himself. The hand made daily chapatis that make up the burritos are out of this world. The only drawback I can find is the physical space is cramped and uncomfortable with only 3 tables inside. On the other hand, having a small space probably keeps the prices as reasonable as they are, and in this town, great creative and affordable food is hard to find! read more

BF and I grabbed a coupla wraps for an easy, quick dinner here before a show at the Throckmorton Theater. Being right around the corner from the theater was an easy plus (though nothing in Mill Valley is more than a 5 min. walk away). The food was good, but not great. The service was nice and they very sweetly brought our food out to us on the sidewalk (they have a few tables for dining al fresco). Doubt I would rush back on our next trip to MV. I think we'll search out some other spots to try. But if I lived in the area and wanted something sort-of-like-indian-but-not-too-much then this would be a good spot for take out. At the recommendation of a staffers at our business, S.O. and I braved parking in downtown M.V. and lucked out after 15 minutes of driving in circles. This little hole in the wall seats about six people total on three tables, but there are two or three additional tables outside. The lovely woman behind the counter, eyes almost hallucinatory in their extraodinary beauty, is truly an ice queen. Her interest in us was virtually nonexistant. Oh well. We weren't there for the service. The menu is pretty self-explanatory -- you choose what your "theme' filling is; various curries, various meats, various veggies, and then whether you want a "burrito" or a rice plate." I opted for the lamb/pumpkin curry "burrito", S.O. ordered chicken curry. We opened a window next to us because of the stuffiness and the pungent smells, and waited for Icy Lovely-Eyed Lady to bring out the food. My curried ground lamb and pumpkin was delicious. This confabulation may be one of the tastiest new things I've tried in a decade, and I sincerely hope the idea catches on because what they've done here is unique, not easy to duplicate, and sincerely delicious. I've been a big fan of tandoori chicken wraps for years now, but this was different, and extraordinarily tasty. The complexity of the condiments used on all the burritos, gingered carrots, still crispy and sweet, a tangy tamarind chutney, spicy garbanzo beans that still had some body, are staples on every burrito, and really complimented the flavor and texture of the ground lamb and curried pumpkin. I imagine that anything else would be complimented by these dissonant tastes as well, surprisingly. Although mine was ordered without rice (because, honestly, I just don't like rice and I'm watching carbs), as historically happens to me in these cases, the was rice included anyway. And it was mixed in with everything else so I couldn't pick around it, as I do with Mexican burritos, which bothered me, but in retrospect, I think that the rice is already mixed in with the other condiments, so perhaps one can't order it without rice. I'll try again next time. At any rate, I found this new fangled burrito to be exemplary, a tad pricey, yes, but such an explosion of flavours and textures, and the lingering scent one carries for the rest of the day does come with a price. They also have a very nice array of imported non-alcohol beverages, with ginger beer being my bev of choice. Really nice with the spice and heat of the burrito. S.O. had a curry chicken burrito, and didn't particularly like the conglomeration of opposing condiments, but felt it acceptable. For the record, he wasn't as keen as I am to try it again, though I suspect he felt it was "good enough" to go again with me. Perhaps the rice plates would be better suited to his palate. Definitely worth a mention is that their "tortilla" is a house-cooked, flaky, chewy naan which are very nice. Since the wrap is as important as the individual ingredients, this is important. Punjab does a great naan/wrap. I do agree with another poster that these can be really sloppy-- be careful whilst eating or you will be wearing your lunch. But then white does go with just about everything.... read more

Really, really tasty "burritos." Delicious Indian flavors wrapped in naan. I love the pumpkin with basmati rice, chickpeas, chutney, tamarind sauce and yogurt. The ambiance leaves something to be desired (mainly take-out space), but it's still worth it. Spinach salad was also very good. Slightly pricey for "burritos" (I think 2 burritos and a shared drink was $20+ salad was an additional $6-8, if I recall) but it's not your average fare and the unique fusion is fun, and interesting, and yummy. Can't wait to try the restaurant in Sausalito. Oh yeah, and the lady at the counter has amazing, beautiful blue eyes. read more

These are the most delicious burritos! Adding grilled chicken is a great addition. The atmosphere is nothing special but the service is great and the restaurant is right near Mill Park where you can take a stroll. It is a bit pricey but pretty large and can be split with a friend if you're not too hungry. What a delicious and novel food. I will be back. read more
