Tea Leaf Salad. One of the best ones I've ever had here!
    John H.

I forgot to put a review here after eating here several times. I work in Sausalito so it's not too far and I've brought coworkers here to eat. The food is very good. I've had the tea leaf salad and BBQ pork garlic noodles. I sadly can no longer eat red meat but the BBQ pork was delicious and the garlic noodles were not overly greasy. I forgot to also include that the tea leaf salad here is one of the best I've had! My coworker that I brought there last year had never had Burmese food and I had her try the Tea Leaf Salad (my personal favourite) and she loved it and insisted that was the best salad she's ever had. We're from the South so our palette is different, lol. This place also has a lot of fusion dishes and is very friendly to vegans and vegetarians. This is very important for me due to dietary restrictions. The restaurant was very clean, the decoration was cute and the owner's daughter was incredibly kind. She told us that her mother's recipes were used for the restaurant. I'll be bringing my partner and other friends here when we have time. The only issue is the parking. Parking is insanely frustrating in this area but this place is worth it. Just carpool together and go! The owner's daughter also has a really good memory since we couldn't come back for several months and she still remembered us and our request for ube cheesecake, lol. Edit: Oops, I meant original owner's daughter. I'm not sure if she's the owner now or her mom. Either way, the food is great and service is always kind. It feels especially kind when owners of the business are passionate about their food and encourage their customers! I found the pictures and uploaded them (oops, it was from 2024 not last year too).

Absolutely pleased with the fine fare we had for dinner last night at Burmatown. This place is always so hard to get in to, and we see why. The food is fantastic, the drink choices are top notch, and service was efficient. We had the tea leaf salad (a MUST), chef's special rice rolls app made vegan w tofu, silken tofu (spicy but oooohhhh so good), and the mushroom noodle entree. We were so full, but still had the mango tapioca dessert (vegan by omitting ice cream and whip cream). We each also had a glass of white wine, a blend for me and Gruner Veltliner for my husband. Definitely recommend, and we will be back again soon!

We had to wait for a while to get a table for 3 on a Friday night. We were told 30-40 mins, but the wait ended up being just over an hour. Nonetheless, our expectations were high. We ordered a bunch of things: - Shrimp and pork dumplings - 4/5. 6 dumplings in soy sauce. Lukewarm temperature. - Bbq pork garlic noodles - 4/5. The pork was flavorful, with the garlic noodles having a slightly sweet taste. Again disappointed with the dish being lukewarm when served. - Bao - 4/5. We got 2; beef and shrimp. - Tea leaf salad - 5/5. Hit the spot with the flavors and textures - Miso cod - 5/5. Complex flavors and delicious and well cooked cod. - Thai tea panna cota - 2/5. Disappointed with this one.

This is a dessert they brought out from my mom's birthday. I think this is there... Coconut Tapioca Pudding.

I meant to write this review last weekend. This is one of those places that I will never forget! I will definitely have to go back again and soon!!! The food was so good and the service was excellent!!! This place was packed when we got there. Yet, every single server and one of the owners was at our table. At one point or another. Excellent customer service!!! The prices are super reasonable. Especially when you look at somewhere like Burma Superstar! I love the food there, but this is even better!!! Which I never thought I would say. Their Tea Leaf Salad... was so good!!! if you've never had it... I would highly recommend trying it! It won't be at all like what you think it'll be. Just make sure to read all the ingredients. Since there are nuts in it. We ordered the Thai Basil Shrimp Stir Fry. Our waiter Max, recommended that we get rid of the green beans and get mixed vegetables instead. Which was such a good suggestion!!! The mixed vegetables were a perfect blend. So dang delicious!!! Especially since we already ordered... the Chili Garlic Green Beans. That would've just been overkill on green beans! These green beans were crisp and delicious!!! Yum!!! We ordered... the Mushroom Medley Garlic Noodles. These were so good!!! They're even better than the next day! Sense of absorb of all the flavor of the mushrooms and garlic. So amazingly delicious!!! definitely one of my favorite dishes! We ordered... the Coconut Chicken Curry with Squash. I wasn't as impressed with this dish. Only because it doesn't have a very strong curry flavor. It definitely tasted better the next day! Even the squash tasted better than the next day. Since it absorbed more of the curry flavor. I don't think I would've ordered this dish again. Yet, I'm sure they have so many other great dishes to order. Their Manuel selection is better than most Burmese restaurants. They had a few dishes I've never had before. Shout out to one of the owners... Jennifer! She was super nice and provided excellent service! We told her that it was our mom's birthday recently. She was so sweet and brought out dessert for my mom. Without us even asking. They even had the staff singing happy birthday to my mom. It was such a great experience!!! This is definitely up there... in my top five favorite places to eat! I think it earned my #2 favorite place to eat! This is definitely somewhere you will want to check out! Just keep in mind they get very busy. The outdoor seating is amazing, but it gets packed really quick. They get a lot of takeout orders. Yet as busy as they get. I would definitely say it's worth eating there. Just for the experience and the overall great service!

I've never had Burmese food before and this was an amazing first experience. We came on a Friday night at like 5ish. Parking wasn't too bad, was able to find street parking a block away. The place itself was maybe half full? We were immediately greeted and sat. We chose to sit inside and the ambiance is a bit on the darker side but the sun coming in from the open front kept it feeling bright and open. We ordered the tea leaf salad, chicken wings, samosas, kanpachi crudo, and bbq pork garlic noodles. Tea leaf salad first was delicious. Super bright and acidic but also umami from the super strong fish sauce. I loved the variety of texture as well. Chicken wings were also really good. Crunchy but also saucy. Juicy and straight off the stove. Samosas were crispy and the sweet chili sauce was the best dipping sauce choice. Kanpachi crudo was from the special menu and that was also really yummy. There were slices of peaches and avocado layered on the fish, which surprisingly went together really well. Fish was super fresh too. Bbq garlic noodles were absolutely the bomb. Noodles were perfectly squishy and chewy, the flavor was so addicting, and the bits of bbq pork were tender and flavorful. The portion size is also great. For dessert, we got the mango coconut tapioca dessert. It had actual bits of coconut and came with ube ice cream and whipped cream. That was good too, but hard to mess that up haha Service throughout the meal was really good! It definitely started getting busy throughout our meal, but that didn't slow the attentive service. Our server also graciously helped us pick the best things from the menu when we were being indecisive lol Overall, amazing experience! Coming from the east bay, this is worth the bridge toll to visit!

Came here for my friend's birthday dinner a couple months back. We had a party of about ten people, and were accommodated to sit in the center tables upon entering the restaurant. Outside, parking may or may not be tough to find depending on how busy it is (e.g. weekends vs. weekdays). I ended up parking two blocks down since it was a very busy weekend! Inside the restaurant, you're welcomed by warm lighting, the bustle of chats among diners, and a very long walk to the back of the restaurant. The place is cozy indeed. We had ordered family style, and I was able to try the following: - Samosas: Decent, it wasn't as flavorful as other places I've been to so I was wondering if it was its own variation. - Pratha and dip: Pratha was nice and flakey, dip was a bit too liquidy for my liking. - Tea leaf salad: Decent; it was refreshing but wasn't as flavorful as other Burmese places I've eaten at in the Bay Area. - Mango salad: This was probably my favorite; it was light, tangy, and nicely shredded. - BBQ pork garlic noodles: Tasty and came in a huge portion! If you order it, please note that it would ideal to share this with 1-2 other people. - Strawberry watermelon wine (Nero d'avola rosato): Light, refreshing, and personally paired really well with the Mango salad in my opinion! Staff were nice here and did their best to work with our large group. I wasn't super blown away by the food here, but if you're really craving Burmese style dishes while in the area, this would probably be the most accessible spot to hit up.

Chicken and squash curry with coconut rice. Fabulously complex flavors and I have had many types of curries!

Brought my friend here today to celebrate her birthday. The restaurant was packed lunchtime Thursday! The chicken and squash curry and the beef curry were sold out. We had the delicious tea leaf salad, the pork curry, coconut rice and the garlic mushroom noodles. Everything was great! My friend thanked the chef!!! I was so happy to introduce my friend to terrific Burmese food. Marin County is fortunate to have Burmatown! This is a family-run restaurant, very welcoming!

Tea leaf salad is excellent. Also enjoyed the rolled rice noodle special. Green beans had good flavor but were a bit too under-done. Wait List estimate was 20 minutes but we had to wait over an hour on a Friday evening. Had I known that, we would have gone somewhere else.

    Amanda L.

Happy we found this spot in Marin for Burmese food! No longer need to drive to SF! We ordered the tea salad, miso cod (special that day) and a braised short rib with coconut rice. Tea salad and short rib was spot on in terms of flavor and generous portion. The cod was cooked perfectly, we just didn't care for the broth or veggies it came with. Definitely will be back!

The moment I stepped into the restaurant the smell of the food was soo aromatic and I felt 10x hungrier. (It was torture) Me n my friend couldn't wait much longer. It was a Saturday night and the wait was about 1.5 hrs. There's a Yelp waitlist but it wasn't working and I think it might have been because the wait was too long so we had to sign up for the waitlist in person. We opted for takeout and honestly I have no regrets. We got : -tea leaf salad (pre-mixed) - I love that they have a premix option because it would have been so hard for me to do this in my hotel room LOL. The flavors were soo good and refreshing! -crispy angel wings- still so crispy and juicy when we got back! The flavor of the wings were perfectly balanced and they reminded me of fish sauce wings -mushroom medley garlic noodles- so umami and yummy if you love mushrooms. I wish they didn't skimp on the togarashi though.. they gave me enough for like 3 bites haha Overall I'd def try to dine in next time! But honestly the takeout really hit that day as well!

    Ask the Community - Burmatown

    Is the menu vegan friendly?

    Yes! Throughout

With the opening of the new location, is there still a long wait if we want to eat at 6:00-6:30 PM on a Tuesday night?

Wait lines at Burmatown are inevitable but you should be able to get in between 6 pm - 6:30 pm without too much of a wait, especially on a Tuesday night.

Is it dog friendly if we eat outside?

    Yep!

Do you have a "slow night". My mom is in her 80's so we are trying to pick a night when the wait might be shortest. Hoping that in January/February we might be more in luck?

Hi Erin, typically Tuesday and Wednesday nights are a little slower. In general though if you come early when we open you’d be able to get seated either right away or fairly quickly!

How early should we get there on a weeknight to eat at 7pm (for party of 4)?

Plan for a 45 minute wait and then grab a drink at the wine bar or Benissimos around the corner.

What's a good time to get there on a Sat night if you want to eat at 6:00?

Depends on how many people, but I would try to go an hour earlier (the wait times are unpredictable)

This time it was a $90 set with 2 drinks, 2 servings of rice of your choice, a trio of their salads, and 2 entrees - honestly a great deal and I think the waitstaff mentioned it's about a $150 value, which I completely believe. Our party of 4 arrived around 8:15, and waited about 15 minutes to get seated - definitely try to join the ahead of time because they saved us! It's cozy, clean and well decorated inside, and though the tables are a little close you have plenty of space and it's not too loud for conversations. We got two sets of the $90 menu - which was probably a mistake since we were stuffed and had plenty of leftovers. Drinks: we got 4 different drinks - the mango Lassi, spiced sunset, nanda breeze and burma cooler. All of these were excellent, refreshing and great for balancing the strong flavors of the entrees! Rice: we always get the coconut rice, so this time we opted for 2 scoops of coconut rice and 2 scoops of the burmese fried rice - the fried rice was tasty but not as fragrant as the coconut rice so we'll probably stick to that in the future Salad trio: this included the iconic tea leaf salad, along with the pea shoot salad, and superstar noodle salad. The pea shoot salad was a surprising favorite, and I'd even consider getting that over the tea leaf salad in the future! The noodle salad was pretty filling but tasty - maybe good if you're not planning to get a bunch of entrees On to the entrees: these are all super flavorful, umami, and can get a little heavy if you don't balance it out with the rice and salads. We got the pazun kyaw (chili prawns), nga phel hin (a sort of fish patty in tomato curry sauce with fresh cucumber slices), chili lamb, and basil chili pork belly. The chili lamb was a standout - super tender, flavorful and our overall favorite. The basil chili pork belly is a close second, but a bit oilier and heavier. The nga phel hin was tasty but a little too heavy /salty - slightly helped by the cucumber but there were only 4 slices with the dish. The chili prawns had great flavor but unfortunately were a little overcooked. Overall, this was an excellent meal! Burma Superstar never fails to be a great place for a large, flavorful family style dinner. I'm glad we got to try multiple new things from the menu through the restaurant week offer, and I'll be able to switch up my typical order in the future based on what we tried this time!

They forgot not to leave off the chilis, but that worked for me because I added her chilis to my dish. The bad: An $8 charge to trade out the regular lunch salad for the tea leaf salad. It was OK. Not great. Not memorable. Ok. The mediocre: I ordered curry which could not be ordered as mild, which was fantastic news to me, and it was mild. It lacked the spiciness I expect from Asian food. It wasn't bad. It was just... disappointing. Furthermore, the Lychee iced tea ($7 a glass or $12 for a carafe) was literally just iced tea with lychees placed in the carafe. That's it. No flavor. Just fruit in the tea. Honestly, I was looking forward to Burma Superstar, but the Burmese place in downtown Sunnyvale is better. If this was their normal, I'd look around for something that lives up to the name SUPERSTAR. ‍ Oh... the location is ok. Not an amazing looking place. Gotta love the red light to indicate if the bathroom is available. Nice, helpful staff. Just skip the substitutions and expect it to be bland.

The food, as always, was extraordinary. The Tea Leaf Salad and Samosas were exquisite--bright, complex, and perfectly balanced. This was my nephew's first time trying Burmese cuisine and he was completely blown away. For our mains, I had the Shredded Mint Chicken, which was fragrant, fresh, and packed with flavor. The B S in Alameda doesn't have the same energy or coziness, but it is easier to access with safer parking (now windows broken there but I've had that here and been hassled walking to/from) and dramatically shorter waits. The diversity of the diners is much lower than this one though (Alameda is still mostly old white people) and the menu has more options here, so I'll continue to return again and again and recommend it to others ... and hope to not have to replace car windows.

Service: 8/10 Sorta had to get their attention to order, but the server checked up on me and was quick with any requests I had. They were friendly, but nothing spectacular. Ambiance: 8/10 Super spacious and clean. It's nicely decorated and has amble seating. I arrived an hour before closing (which is totally my fault) and I felt a bit rushed the entire time. TDLR: Coconut Chicken Soup is great especially on a cold night, but not a lot of meat. Tad on the pricier side. Portion is great though. Service is good and restaurant is clean and spacious.

It was the right amount of saltiness and it wasn't super super strong. My spouse said this is one of the better tea leaf salads that we have tried in the area. I tried a coconut curry chicken dish and thought it was fine. Flavor was good, but the dish was only chicken curry (sauce) but no vegetables or any other thing inside the dish. It did feel a little one note! Service was good! They were nice!

If you were expecting only 3 shrimp and all eggplant then maybe you will like more. The Burma house noodles were too sweet and funky for my family and my taste, not savory enough or nutty enough (it did reheat better the next day and somehow tasted a bit better). Tea leaf salad was decent, nothing wow about it, probably from a decent quality salad kit if I had to guess. Especially considering how quickly the two we ordered came out. There are a few Burmese restaurants in SF and Berkeley I compare this place to which is why I give it a solid 3.

They moved around the tables to make sure we were in the shade. The waiter even brought out a container of water for my dogs. He later brought out a extra container of water. I'm not sure if they go through this much effort for everyone, but I really appreciate the effort. The food was good also. I got the poutine off the specials. It was great

Well, a friend also recommend it as they live in town. Small town, most places do close pretty early. I think they closed around 8pm when we arrived. They were able to accommodate my group last minute. It was Thursday, the farmers market was going on out front and the place was pretty mellow. Inside, it was mellow but once you were in the back patio, it was pretty lively. It's where they seated us. First time also trying Burmese food. Menu did have a lot of dishes that are pretty much similar to the other southeast asian dishes. Pretty much the seasonings varies here and there. Service was great from start to finish as everyone was very sweet and friendly. Constantly checking in on us to make sure that everything was taken care of. Food wise, we started off with some of their starter. Burmese chicken wings and added fries. The seasoning was quite nice and tasty. Tossed with fries, onions, bell peppers and garlic bits. Quite tasty. Shrimp basket, classic fried shrimp in rice paper. Just like an egg roll. They were quite nice and tasty. Crispy pork belly, marinated pork belly served with a tamarind sauce. The nice crunch and sweet sauce were all great together. Entrees, a mixture of everything to share. The spicy noodles which were pretty much similar to pad Thai. Stir fry noodles with bell peppers, onions, green onions, mushrooms, scrambled eggs, peanuts and adorned with shredded cabbage. Perry much their version of pad Thai. It was good but a little too sweet for my liking. Burmese style chicken biryani, slow cooked chicken thighs and drumsticks marinated in butter, yogurt, masala, ginger and served with biryani rice. That was a meal in its own. Tasty with the sauce and the chicken literally fell off the bone. Basil chili beef was quite nice. The flavors were really good and the beef was tender. Fiery pork was a recommendation from the waiter which was also a nice dish. Stir fry tofu with pork, red onion, bell peppers, string beans, garlic and a house special soy sauce. Tasty dish as well. Lastly the chicken red curry. Slow cooked with potatoes, onions, Marsala, paprika in a rich sauce. Served with steamed rice. It was good but the other dishes outshine it. We did like the food. Very similar to a lot of other Asian dishes but their version and take on it. Pretty much similar but change it up with the spices. Service was great and the place was nice. Glad we got a table on the patio versus inside.
