I came here 3 weeks ago and had my hair color with Jackie. I was very happy with her matching my hair color and today I went back for color and haircut. What started out as an awful experience turned out to be wonderful in the end. I went to the Aveda experience salon on El Paseo thinking that all stylists would be wonderful, friendly, and professional. Unfortunately, the stylist I had got the same day appointment with seemed annoyed from the moment I met him to the time that I left the salon. You would think as a first time client that a stylist would be friendly and chatty, but that was not the case with this stylist at all. He was the complete opposite, Angry, annoyed, and just feeling as though he didn't want to be there. He barely spoke to me at all. I started out as a blonde, requesting only my roots to be done and felt as though I was coming out as a red head. There was obviously a clear miscommunication and I was extremely unhappy to say the very least. The stylist became quite annoyed that I was unhappy with the finished product, but then begrudgingly redid my hair in an attempt to make it as I had requested. Again, unfortunately, I was still very unhappy with the outcome and color, and felt darker than I had gone in with. The next morning I called the manager and told him what happened. Dylan, the manager, was so kind and invited me back in to Aveda to make sure I was happy, and that I got exactly what I wanted at no extra cost. I went to the LaQuinta location, and under the expertise of Michele, Manny did the perfect job of making me back to the blonde I wanted in the first place. He was patient, kind and extremely professional. He checked several times to make sure that all was good and that the color was going to be perfect. I would highly recommend Manny for a color treatment or any blowout, whether it be for an evening out or just feeling pretty at home. Since Covid hit last year, my hair has gone from straight glossy blonde to wispy curly. I had my hair done recently at another salon and went to Eric L. at this Aveda location (while on vacation) to fix how brassy it was. My hair is naturally very dark so highlights with roots touch up often times leaves an orangey tone. Eric took his time to evaluate my hair and talked through options and solutions. We ended up doing partial highlights to raise the color to a high enough level to then tone it and then added shadow roots. The end result was a very naturally blended look with a more cool tone. No more orange. I highly recommend Eric for his patience, professionalism, and expertise. read more

Spoiler alert: I am now a brunette. My husband who had loved having a blond wife for the past 29 years is delighted with his new wife. I look amazing!! Desperate for a hair renewal after my long time stylist decamped for Scottsdale, I used Yelp reviews to choose Alankara. I explained my goals and the gentleman manning the phones set me up with Monica, a senior stylist. Monica examined my hair, color and texture (damaged!) and went to work. I let her do her job and offers little input. To my surprise, I departed as a brunette with red highlights. I'd never considered this color. But it looks great! My color and cut is fabulous, my texture is restored. I'm a 3 times a week (plus) 64 year swimmer. So I regularly destroy my hair. Monica turned me into a new woman. I'm thrilled. Only problem? This is probably the most costly partial highlights and trim I have ever gotten. I don't mind paying 300 dollars but I was very unhappy with the color and will be going elsewhere to fix it. The trim was fine but I didn't get what I wanted. I felt like it was a big waste of money. The partial highlights looks like two skunk strips reminds me of early 90s style. I wanted a balayage but the girl said my hair has color in it already and that wasn't possible and I needed to grow it out. So I ended up paying a lot of money for something I didn't want and will be paying more to fix it when I head back to Sf. Which is too bad. The salon is clean and nice. Staff was friendly. read more

Worst haircut I have ever gotten. She cut it way too short and did not understand my multiple attempts to explain a simple basic cut. I travel for business internationally and have gotten my hair done at some great places. I usually go to a terrific salon a couple doors away, but they were booked up. The girl who came with me that day has been a professional entertainment industry make up artist for over 20 years. She overheard my stylist and said she sounded like someone who had graduated from beauty school a month ago. I think Supercuts could do a better job for a third of the price. Look at older reviews in their La Quinta salon, many were one and two stars. This stylist was no where near as good and gifted as you need to be in order to charge those prices... please be ware!! read more

A while ago I went to this salon for the first time for a root touch up. My hair is blonde. I explained to April that I want the blonde matching the rest of my hair (of course). While the color was applied I said that it looks quite dark to me and I do not want under any circumstances darker hair!!! Needless to say the roots were dark. April stated I needed bleach, which is nonsense. I never got my hair bleached before. April is unprofessional, provides inadequate services and has no clue about hair color. She offered no excuse. The price is way too expensive. I would never go to that salon again ... ever. read more

I lived in Chicago for five years and spent a lot of money for good stylists; April is their equal. I have had skin treatments with Jackie - again, awesome! Some friends and I went to this retail store for some info on the Invati line and was pleased with the customer service from Alexis. He was super friendly and really had lots of information to share about the Aveda products. We had cups of the Aveda tea which was very yummy and sweetened with fennel (I believe). I felt like we got a hair spa consult on the spot. He gave us quality samples and answered all our questions. My girlfriend was dealing with some suspected hair loss, and Alexis was able to take photos of her hair follicles and tell whether it was actual hair loss or damage/breakage!! This was an incredible concept that I didn't think we'd be able to do without going to an actual hair doctor. It was nice. Would recommend this store to anyone who wants to be treated like royalty. read more
