I had an amazing experience getting a facial from Rebeka in Provo at the Aveda Institute! I happened to be in town for the weekend and they were able to fit me in for a last-minute appointment. Rebeka was very professional, courteous, and thoughtful. She discussed my skin, made recommendations, and checked in to be sure everything was going well throughout our session. The pricing is extremely reasonable and easily as good as facials I've paid triple that amount for. I would definitely go again for facials (ask for Rebeka before she graduates!) or I'd try other services also. read more

I came to the Aveda Institute for a facial. I haven't used Aveda products in years and as soon as I stepped into the salon, I remembered how much I love the scent. The service is done by students and it is always a nice experience. This one was probably the best student facial I've ever had. They start off with a foot washing which was so relaxing, and then you can add an aromatherapy to your service. It was such a calm and relaxing environment. I chose the 90 minute service and did a micro-currant add-on, which I highly recommend. I ended up buying some of the facial oil which I've been using. With any student services, the instructor does come in a couple of times throughout your appointment which is no big deal. They always ask before they do anything or touch you, which is very respectful. I will definitely come back. read more

The people that work here are so nice and the customer service is great. When it comes to the ambiance and the welcoming factor of a school and its students I think this one is the best in the area that I have experienced. However, when it comes to prices I think their color + chemical section prices are not competitive to the other hair schools in the area. I went to get my hair done on a weekday and the girl that did my hair was so nice. However, her instructor kind of guided the student incorrectly and told them to skip a step which resulted in my hair not taking the color I wanted. It's a school, so I know there are risks to that. I personally don't care too much for "haircut/hair color gone wrong" experiences because my hair grows out fast and I find ways to make it work, which is why I am okay with going to schools for services in the first place. But if I paid the true cost of how much product was used on my hair (+ $12 per extra bowl) on top of the $54 it would have come out to be $102. Which at that point, I might as well spend the extra $15-$50 it takes to get my hair done by a licensed hairstylist. Thankfully, since the color didn't show up at all in my hair, I was given a discount and only paid $78.. but still not worth it in my opinion. This was the third time I have gone to get my hair dyed with Aveda and each time they drench my hair at the bottom with product and then towards the top they go much lighter, which in turn my hair wouldn't have probably needed that much product to begin with if they were more scarce with the product towards the top like they were at the bottom sections of my hair. Which would have saved me some money. When I have gone to other schools in the area they are typically super busy with clients but when I went here there were probably only 4 other clients other than me that day. Which from a student perspective that would be concerning because it means you probably aren't getting much hands on experience with actual clients. I haven't received any other services at aveda other than hair services so I will say the 3 stars is regarding hair services + prices only. I just think the point of hair school is to learn as much as possible and get as many clients as possible to get that experience from but from what I have gathered every time I have gone to Aveda, it tends to be set up to upsell the clients that do come in, in suttle ways. It doesn't surprise me that they aren't as booked with clients as other hair schools are in the area considering their hair prices aren't competitive, especially when there are other schools in the area that focus solely on hair. read more

I've been driving class this place for years, and I've never stopped in until today to get a massage from one of their students. As you might expect as students they don't have experience to really do a a professional job. But if you take it from the perspective to assisting someone in their transition and becoming a massage therapist and helping with her education, then it's a good place to swing by. I was in town visiting relatives and in desperate need of a pedicure. My sister-in-law recommended Aveda. The first challenge I had was finding parking. I ended up parking several streets over, so I was a little late. The reception area is nice, lots of product options to try. The staff was great. The students were very nice, personable and professional. The area for pedicures was interesting. You step up to a raised platform, and need to negotiate around the large round bowl to get seated. A little awkward, as I was recovering from a knee injury. The pedicure itself was lovely, and the instructor checked in frequently to ensure all was in order. Very happy with the results. Lydia was AMAZING. I received a massage earlier this week and loved it. She frequently checked on if the pressure was ok as well as temperature of hot towels. She immediately applied feedback from her instructor about areas of focus and technique. I was impressed by her fast learning. My only regret was doing a 60 minute massage instead of 90 minute massage. It was so peaceful and when you walk in the offer water or tea. She did a scent experience were I chose the essential oil for my massage which help me feel comfortable. The massage room was clean, calm, and overall flowed well. read more

Aveda Institue is a cosmotology school that also offers esthics and many different hair services for both men and women. The majority of customers are women but as a male I chose to come here on the rare occasions that i needed some pampering i.e skin care like facial. I first came here on a recommendation from my mom about their $7 hair cuts years ago. This is on the low end of pricing for cuts so I would never expect greatness especially from students Respectfully. The pricing for all services was the highlight right next to the service. As the years went on i finally tried their facials and I was thoroughly impressed. Most of the girls are really sweet. The haircuts in the recent years have become really bad. I've tried at least 3-4 girls which ironically are just months away from graduating and yet they each struggle with the basics. Fades and tapers seem like foreign requests to each of them. Their customer service is great, definitely treated like you are at a spa, not a school! I love how they offer you a beverage when you come in. I always get their herbal tea - love the taste! The fact that these students are 6 months in and 6 month from graduating but can't properly perform a hair service is extremely concerning. I had the worst experience I've ever received today. And I had been here previously a few times over the years and had no issues which was why i kept coming back and even recommended to friends to come here but after today that is no longer the case. The student who did my hair was just so inconsiderate and rough; she literally had me on the verge of tears when she had to detangle my hair from the highlighting foils that literally took an hour to get out. I know how my hair lifts and it did take well to the bleach but then to finish it off she did a toner that basically cancelled out the highlights she had just done and it looks like I had no service done at all. 4 hours later (!) She basically gave up and didn't even bother to shampoo or condition my hair after the toner and my hair was so dry and brittle I couldn't even get my hand through it and she didn't bother to put any conditioning product after all that processing. Not to mention my scalp still hurts from her tugging and breaking my hair for an hour, even after the instructor watched her and told her how to work from the bottom up to work out the knots she kept pulling from the crown down. I refuse to ever go back nor recommend this place to anyone. It used to be good service it now it's like they offer a crash course with no quality control. I've been getting my hair done for 23 years and have never encountered a "stylist" like I did today. read more

I got an eyebrow wax and tint just the other day and was very pleased with my results! The girl doing my eyebrows listened carefully to what I wanted and made sure I liked the color of my eyebrows before moving on! Eyebrows are a big deal for me, so I was hesitant to go to a school but it ended up being one of my best eyebrow wax experiences...ever! Went in for a haircut and color expecting great results and came out extremely disappointed. The girl who did my hair pushed my head down when she was cutting and coloring my hair instead of being a bit more gentle. I already had brights purple hair with a bit of pink and I wanted to keep how bright it was and just add a little more purple and it came out almost black! My haircut came out terrible as well. Having curly hair I asked for her to shape and she said she couldn't do that and went on to cut it in a straight line. read more

I was really nervous to go to a school. I have helped family and friends out before, but never just gone into a school and scheduled with someone random. It was a great experience! Everyone was really nice and It's clear that they are positive with each other and work as a team. It took a lot longer than a typical cut (3 hours, usually it's only about an hour or so), which I expected, but I really like the results! They have massaging chairs at their hair wash sinks which was awesome, and the product they used made my hair and scalp feel amazing. They have a new client special where whatever you spend on product you get back in services on your next appointment, so my next cut will be "free!" I will definitely go back! read more

I had a horrific experience at this salon. I got a haircut from a nice girl. I went home and there were random patches of long hair. I understand that this is a school, so I called to have a redo. I arrived and they placed me directly across from the girl who had butchered my hair and asked me to describe how she had messed up. It was so unbelievably awkward. Also, the students have no idea how to cut curly hair. I came for a haircut prior to this incident and the instructor cut one side of my head, then had the student cut the other side.
