We didn't rent a car so I can't comment on parking, but everything you want to see, like the Colosseum, is just a short walk from the hotel or you can take a cab. The staff were wonderful with helpful suggestions from the front desk to the amazing breakfast buffet staff that always gave us a very warm "buongiorno" when we came in. After a few days the server didn't need to ask anymore he just brought me a cappuccino when I sat down. That is probably the biggest breakfast buffets I have ever seen. The two pictures don't fully capture it all. I really liked this hotel and would be back if I am ever in Rome again.

The downstairs spa was a bit small, but enjoyable nonetheless, with steam room, sauna, and simple hydrotherapy stations. All in all this was the best accommodations we had our entire 10 day trip throughout Italy. Will gladly stay here again! The staff, service, location, amenities and facility were all stellar!

DoubleTree by Hilton Rome Monti

If you are wanting to stay at a full-service, Hilton branded hotel property while in Rome without…read moregoing bankrupt doing so, The Doubletree Hotel by Hilton Rome Monti would be a solid choice. By Rome standards for a full-service hotel, it would be considered affordable by many. But just to be clear, it is not ultra-inexpensive. For the money, it is firmly in the 4-star hotel genre (getting a 5-star Yelp rating from me within this category because I could find nothing wrong with it during my stay). So, while it may not have crystal chandeliers and butlers running around, it is definitely not a student tourist level hostel. It has modern, comfortable public spaces, elevators that hold more than 2 people at a time, a restaurant with a good breakfast spread, and well-appointed guest rooms with modern amenities and AC. I really don't need more than that when I am traveling solo for business so it was perfect for me given that set of circumstances. As a comparison, I have stayed at a 5-star Rome hotel which was absolutely a step up in terms of service, luxury features, and a sense of a personal attention. But when I am alone on business, that level of service is not necessary and can feel uncomfortable to me. There are plenty of cafe's and restaurants within a 10 min walk and it is a reasonable walk to attractions such as the Opera House, the Coliseum, and the Trevi Fountain. It is also a 10-minute walk to the main terminal Rome train station and the cool, local Nuovo Mercato Esquilino if you are into that type of thing like I am. I spent early mornings walking somewhere for coffee and then through the Mercato to watch the vendors work to ready their produce and meat to be pawed over by early restauranteurs which was a cool look at the underbelly life of this great city. I really liked that this hotel is not right up against the busy street and, on at least 2 sides of the building, there are streets that are not constantly jammed with the noise of traffic. My room fronted one of the quiet sides. It is unclear to me if I was upgraded to a nicer than standard room location because of my Hilton loyalty status but I had a very quiet stay in a room that was impeccably clean and could be easily darked out during the day if I needed a restorative nap for my jet lag. The gym was reasonably appointed and open 24/7 and the wi-fi speed was top notch. I had a great stay here for the money. Based on all of this, when in Rome in the future as a solo business traveler, I would be very happy to stay here again.

The breakfast buffet is one of the best I ever experienced in all my years of traveling with so many options you cannot possibly try them all. The omelette chef was so accommodating and friendly. We had lunch there the day we arrived, breakfast each day and even decided to dine there for dinner one night instead of going out. All the servers went above and beyond for us and made us feel so welcome. They have live music that is very classy and works great for the environment of the hotel. The room is impressively large with a huge bathroom. We had a plush king sized bed with cozy down bedding. The thick beautiful curtains ensured that the room was perfectly dark for great sleep even if we wanted a mid day nap. There was a lovely little balcony with a view of the courtyard. With the curtains open the natural light is perfect. The bed was comfortable and we Sisto very nicely here. The bathroom is very big with a walk in shower and bidet with all toiletries needed to have a comfortable stay. This was not a problem and we stayed in this room as warming towels us a perk but not a requirement. I would also note that the building is quite old and the bathroom had a metallic smell perhaps from the pipes of older plumbing but it was fine as long as we kept the bathroom door closed. I think the hotel was really concerned that we were upset but we absolutely were not just keep in mind this building is antique and if you are coming from the US where everything is new and not used to a potential aroma of antiquity be prepared to experience a true European city and do not complain. All details are thought of here including mini bar, clothes steamer, hair dryer, toiletries and a welcome gift. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. They are always ensuring that we were comfortable and happy. We absolutely loved our stay here. The hotel is a special place and experience. The nostalgia of standing and staying where the Romans once stood 2000 years ago was definitely a treat! The hotel has a rooftop terrace where we enjoyed breakfast in the mornings and wine in the evening. The lounge just inside of the terrace is cozy and comfortable to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail in the evening and there's a cozy fireplace to warm up, which we took full advantage of after a long wet rainy day in the colosseum and Roman forum. We had a great stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special Roman experience. We will definitely be back!

The staff was very polite, friendly, observant and always smiling. The hotel is very clean and tidy, and furniture very typical Italian - all well kept. However, I was expecting more from a "luxury hotel"; like spacy rooms, a more private and comfortable lounge area, terrace seating's, and outside pool perhaps?! My single-room was at the very top of the hotel, and both mine and a double-room I spotted by passing by an open door, were small - just containing a bed and a small table with chair, with very small space to move. There were no air-conditioning, and with very hot weather, it was rather warm in here - still more comfortable than outside. The elevator was the smallest ever - could take a couple if standing close is ok. Free wifi, but not ranging out to the breakfast room. I missed a refill of the coffee in my room (dependent on coffee before morning runs!), and the refrigerator could absolutely do with a cooler temperature - almost no difference to the room temperature. Breakfast was ok, but nothing further; juice, different bread, hardboiled (!) egg, scrambled egg (from powder), bacon (definitely not crisp), ham and cheese, small selection of fresh and canned fruits, and a varied selection of bakery goods. I'm choosing a different hotel the next time.

The high points were the location (awesome spot for walkability to nearby restaurants and the delicious gelato spot on the corner) and the rooftop breakfast (cool locale with nice enough food). The low points were the noise (loud street outside, lots of banging around on the floor above, and our room, 207, was right by the elevator so we had hallway noise added to that), comfort of the bed (all of the beds in Italy have been too firm for my comfort, but this one was an absolute rock that hurt my back for the next day), the key card situation (having to leave it with the front desk and pick it up every time, plus the odd method of using it to keep the lights and A/C on in your room, though this might be common and is surely a good way to save electricity), and the bathroom (the phone booth-sized shower that's been typical of Italy so far, the illogical and messy design of an accordion door on that shower, and the strangest and probably oldest hairdryer I've ever seen in my life). The elevator is also pretty shady, yet its small size and slowness are kind of par for the course in Rome, from what we've experienced. All of the staff here are very friendly and helpful; we loved that aspect of this place! They stored our luggage for us after check-out so we could tour around Rome before our next hotel check-in. It works as a last-minute booking for one night, but I wouldn't recommend it for any longer of a stay. It's just not very comfortable or conducive to rest. Again, my input is probably irrelevant to someone who's well-traveled, but if you're new to international trips like myself, these are just the observations I thought I'd share.
