We arrived about 15 minutes before show time and parked in one of the nearby Aventura city parking lots (complimentary parking), or you can opt for valet parking at a fee. I would personally walk each time because you typically don't walk more than 500 feet or so to get to the building. When you arrive, you go through a light security check point and walk into the venue. They have concessions with a full bar and light snacks. Mixed drinks and wine are $12 for a single or $18 for a double. They have a few spots to walk in and check your tickets and the ushers take you right to your seat. There's not a bad seat in the house (we were two rows from the back of the theater and loved our seats- see photo). If you see a show you want to attend, go for it! It's a great theater, with amazing staff!

Like many women's clubs in Florida, the Hollywood Women's Club was founded in 1922 during the Florida Land Boom years. In the 1920's women's clubs were formed to give back to the community. They became a way for women to get out of the house and assert their independence. They allowed women to get involved in politics and launched the women's rights movement. The Hollywood Women's Club predated the founding of the city and in 1924 they joined the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The first club members were the wives of officers in the J.W. Young Organization which was the development company building Hollywood. They met in the first clubhouse that was built on land donated by the founder of Hollywood, Joseph W. Young in 1927. Early club projects included donating hundreds of books to the first public library, holding tag sales to pay for health screenings for children, giving migrating farmers assistance with housing and welfare, getting the Miami Telephone Co. to bring the first telephone line to town, and collecting $12,000 during a war bonds drive. Today the club supports literacy programs, funds a youth scholarship, participates in the Hollywood Historical Society, supports the neighborhood crime watch, and provides financial aid to many state charities through the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The original plans for the clubhouse included an ornate Mediterranean Revival style. After the collapse of the land boom due to the Great Depression and several hurricanes the design was scaled back to a more affordable $25,000 Classical Revival style building in 1927. The building was listed as a a local historical landmark in 1985, and added to the National Register of Historic Place in 1995. Between 2012 and 2014 money was raised by the club and added to a grant to prevent the clubhouse from sinking into the sand. Other cosmetic work was also completed on this charming historical building. In 2022 the Hollywood Women's Club celebrated their 100th anniversary. During this time further electrical improvements and upgrades to the kitchen were made. Today the clubhouse is available to be rented for private events. The 1,200 square foot main event room has hardwood floors and a grand piano and can accommodate 60 people. There is also a catering kitchen. Information on how to rent the clubhouse and join and volunteer with this important civic organization can be found on the club website. If there are any upcoming events you can find that information as well. For instance they hold 2 round bingo nights for $10. The next bingo night is May 30th and they serve inexpensive drinks including alcohol and snacks. For over 100 years the women of Hollywood have been coming together to improve their local community as well as the state of Florida. Women's clubs have a legacy of helping their communities and it's nice to see that this one is still going strong today.

This Ancient Spanish Monastery located in North Miami is an enclave for European architecture and…read morehistory. Built in Spain in 1133, the cloisters and outbuildings were purchased by William Randolph Hearst in 1925 with plans to bring them to the United States. Taken apart stone by stone, it was packed in 11,000 wooden crates. In 1952, two Miami businessmen purchased the Monastery with plans to turn it into a tourist attraction. Time magazine called it "the biggest jigsaw puzzle in history," completed in 1953 and $20 million dollars. Sold to Robert Pentland Jr. in 1964, he in turn gave it to the Bishop of Florida. It is currently owned by the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida. There is a museum with historic Spanish artifacts. While the church is at its core, the monastery surrounded by beautiful gardens and courtyard is an oasis of peace and serenity. A great place for special events. A wedding was being set up while we were there on a Sunday. Open 10-4 Monday to Friday and varies on weekends depending on events. Entrance fee is $10.

Getting to the hotel was a breeze, but I did miss the entrance, so looped it around and came right back, where you head up to the valet, which is the only parking they offer. Great thing is that valet is in and out, and also you can call for your car ahead of time when you're heading down. The hotel was beautiful, and right on the beach, which is the access I wanted to have for this trip. We checked in, and it was a breeze. We went up to our room straightaway and were blown away with how spacious the room was. We had a 1 bedroom suite, which came with a full kitchen, living room, and huge bathroom. I do believe there used to be washers/dryers in the rooms, because the bathroom had a huge area with hookups. That was the only thing, it seemed like wasted space, but none the less, beautiful bathroom as well. We dropped our bags and off we went. We went to the bar area first to enjoy HH and then head off to the beach so we could feel the sand in our toes! We explored the beach for a while, and they have a private beach just for the hotel guests which is nice. You can grab some towels and they walk you down to setup your chair, and an umbrella. I would definitely consider staying here again. There were a few things that make me leave it at 4 stars vs 5 stars, such as the elevator, it seemed to take a really long time to arrive, and there were 3 elevators. Also, on one of our days there, there was a loud noise coming from who knows where, and it was in the morning, that just didn't seem to want to stop. Not sure if they were repairing something or what, but it was a little obnoxious after going on for over an hour, in the morning. One other thing I would be more aware of is wait time for dining. Our waiter would not check on us for quite some time in between dining. She was super sweet, but also, it is good to be checked in on during the meal to ensure we are all good. It took a while to get our check, and when you're on someone else's time, it can bore down the nice meal you've just had. The staff were super great throughout our whole stay from the valet, to front desk, bar and restaurant staff and beach staff. Beautiful hotel, and nice to be in a quieter area of Miami. Also, close to dining and grocery stores within walking distance of the hotel.
