After the meeting we told to go back to the main office to have the office receptionist let us into the room to take a look. We asked to see the area for a reception and she said no not at this time. Thats all she said and turned her back on us. I'm pretty sure she is not happy with her job. She really shouldn't be the first person people see when they enter the office.

I believe it is a fairly new center, but I certainly feel at home here and I get exactly what I need from Pastor Kathy and all who attend. Today I felt as if I was spoken to directly. I have been to many churches from a young adult and have finally found a belief system and center that resonates quite deeply with my heart and my soul. Before becoming a regular attendee, I visited once. I was amazed by the testimonies I heard--deliverances from drugs, alcohol, abusive relationships, low self-esteem, etc. Even though those testimonies showed me that God was truly working in this church, I didn't return until much later because I thought I wouldn't fit in. Looking back, it seems silly, but the struggles people shared felt so heavy to me, and they weren't the kind of challenges I was facing in my own life... God used an unexpected set of circumstances to draw me back for another visit--and I've been attending ever since. During my first year and a half, or so, at The River, I stayed in the shadows. I had come out of a long season of seeking a church home, so I was still in that noncommittal mode. Then God prompted me to volunteer. I began volunteering in the church office building during the week, and it's been such a HUGE blessing to me. First, it's allowed me to get to know people here--the church staff and fellow volunteers. I must say that everyone I've worked with has been so genuine. I was surprised to see how often the pastors--Pastors Jim & Pam, and Pastors Doug & Terry--get their hands dirty. From feeding the homeless, cleaning, removing graffiti, moving heavy Food Share boxes and sorting through bags of soiled clothing and other personal items, they consistently demonstrate genuine humility. They are always busy working to provide some service to the community or to the church, yet they still find the time to show their appreciation for us (volunteers) and to help us. Just yesterday, Terry stopped her work to show me how to use some sound equipment that was new to me. She walked me through everything and made sure that I had what I needed. This is the culture here. It starts with leadership and flows down to the staff and the volunteers. Through the experiences I've had with the people here and the various River ministries--The Food Pantry, Bags of Love, Hot Lunches (for the needy and/or homeless), Tender Life Maternity Home, The City Center--I've seen firsthand how The River extends the love of God to the community. I've matured a great deal as a daughter in the Lord just by spending time alongside my brothers and sisters here. My advice to anyone who is in that uncomfortable place of searching for a church home is to find a church where the Truth is preached (God's Word--not a sugar-coated message adapted to fit the culture) and where His Spirit is moving. Testimonies of true transformation and deliverance are an example of this. Once you've found a church that clearly meets that criteria, don't just sit back and watch--volunteer. From my experience, I can tell you that when you volunteer you will be able to determine if the church you are attending is the real deal. You will begin to feel like part of the church family. You will see firsthand how your tithes and offerings are being used. You will know if the leadership is truly Spirit-led and Spirit-filled. Lastly, if you are in the right place, you too will have an amazing testimony of your own--like I do now. :) May God bless The River Community Church, and may God bless you and bring an end to your searching, as He did for me. *We have a Spanish service at 1:00 pm. I love that they serve coffee, tea, water and donut holes that you can either take into the auditorium or can enjoy in the cafe tables in the lobby. In the lobby there are screens to watch the service and there are also a few rows of seating in-front of the large screen that are like auditorium seats. This is a great option for people that might want to have a more casual experience or for young families with strollers or just don't want to have their children checked into the kids corner. They provide new visitors with a mug and information like the mission app. Everyone has been so welcoming and kind. I have attended with friends and I have come by myself. Each service makes me feel safe and part of a community. I was lucky enough to attend their new visitors night on April 13th. They fed us, provided coffee, tea and water and we got to sit at tables in the main lobby to meet other new visitors and hear the mission statement of mission and find out more information about how to get involved. If you are looking for a new church, you should check out Mission. It's a great place for growing your faith and for building God connections.

However, our experience during worship was uncomfortable. After we found our seats and worship had already begun, a volunteer staff member approached us and said she needed six seats that overlapped with where we were sitting. I told her we would do the Christian thing and move out of the way. She then suggested we ask others to move over, but the row was already full, and the people next to us were also reserving seats for others. In that moment, it honestly felt like we were being pushed out of our seats rather than welcomed. To avoid causing disruption, we moved into the aisle to continue worshiping, then stood in the back. Eventually, we left the worship area altogether and sat in the open common area instead. We came to worship God, not to hold onto seats, so we chose peace over conflict. Still, for a church that emphasizes community and welcome, this interaction left us feeling displaced rather than cared for, especially during worship. I believe Mission Church has good intentions and a strong foundation in Christ, but I hope they can improve how seating and volunteer interactions are handled so guests feel welcomed, respected, and valued rather than inconvenienced during worship.

My 7 year old was upset on our way home from his experience. We agreed to try one more Sunday but at an earlier time hoping things might be different. My husband and I were very blessed by the warm welcoming we received in the lobby/foyer area. Even when we were sitting waiting for church to start, this super nice young man came over and introduced himself, asked where we were from etc... we chatted it up for at least 5 minutes. Haha didn't realize he was the pastor! Very young so we were quite surprised when "Pastor Matt" came up to the pulpit LOL! Worship was good... Pastor's message was good as well. The staff is small but Pastor Steve is awesome! I love the way God uses him, I personally like being told what I need to work on, feel the conviction and hold myself accountable. Pastor Steve doesn't sugar coat things! I love his family too, his wife Tammy is super sweet, and their kids are great that are actively involved with the church. When my sister passed suddenly I was able to call the church and talk to someone right away and they prayed for me and even sent over dinner for me and my family since I had my sister's daughters in my care. A church being that big and took the time for me, I was touched.
