Awful customer service. Avoid this place at all costs. My husband and I were browsing, as we do, looking at their whiskey selection and apparently took too long deciding when the employee at the register yelled at us saying if we're not buying something we need to leave. We tried explaining that we were deciding on what to purchase but he didn't understand English and proceeded to yell at us to get out of the store. Kindhearted workers here. The gas station across the street does not have a bathroom and this place does. The cashier there let me use his bathroom without any hesitation and without having to purchase anything. Of course, I couldn't just leave without buying something for his kindness. Got some on the go snacks for the road trip back to my hotel. I always honor those who show kindness and establishments that help people. That alone is worth a 5 stars. I don't know if there are multiple cashiers or something, but I had an experience similar to other low-rated reviews. Back when I worked on the island and newly 21-22, this was the only place I bought liquor, normally a Hawaiian coffee rum. Most recently, I was walking Orange with my girlfriend, popped in to check out the whiskey selection, made a couple comments to her about the Jameson Black Barrel being overpriced, and as I was looking at a bottle of Middleton Very Rare (hunting for a Dair Ghaelach) the cashier gets very aggressive yelling, "can I help you" and sorts over the counter. At this point, I'm turned off to this visit, but made note of something I would come back for on my way back to my car. We leave, finish looping around Orange and I'm actually coming back to buy a bottle and the cashier is outside, smoking a cigarette and starts yelling at me that I have no money, accusing me of stealing from him and demands to look in my girlfriends small purse. I oblige, thinking the ultimate f-you is the evidence of him being wrong, despite being under no obligation to, and he continues to berate me as if I'M wasting HIS time. Flippantly insolent and arrogant, no apology for the false accusations, nothing. Most stuff is overpriced, especially considering there's a Total Wine and More in San Diego now. I guess unless you're quickly grabbing a beer or something you aren't worth this guy's time. Spend your money elsewhere. I have been going here since 2016 when I moved to the island. It's one of the only places that's open past 7pm on weekends and weekdays. The customer service is great, too. I consider them my friends. Their selection of non-alcoholic drinks is just as large as their selection of alcohol so don't let "liquor store" deter you from going! The sandwich shop inside is also a great place to grab food when you're on a lunch break or need a fast, delicious to-go option. I can't say enough good things about this place! read more

This liquor store has every bottle pretty much every bottle of alcohol you can possibly think of and you can order food at the same time. The cook doesn't speak English but I do speak Spanish so I was able to communicate to the very nice quiet lady but I witnessed someone get rude to her...not nice at all! The very best selection of everything in San Diego! It smells of delicious food as you walk in , so I ordered a BLT with avocado (wow) and it was incredible! I would rather give my business to a gas station than ever walk back into that store again. Every time I go in there they give me issues with my Pennsylvania ID. They tell me it's not real even though it doesnt get any more real than that. The same man has both sold me alcohol and denied me. For what? Get a counterfit scanner or a new employee that won't affect your business because you're losing customers because the bald man doesn't know how to check an ID. Was driving down to Coronado Beach and the most delicious looking sandwich sign was posted outside of this liquor store. Immediately I decided that's what I wanted for my beach day. So this liquor store has its own sub shop, and the menu is very enticing. Cutting right to it, though, I was very disappointed. Maybe the sign looked TOO good? I grabbed a Super Orange Ave Italian Sub. Here are the ingredients: Hot capicola, smoked peppered turkey, bacon, Genoa salami and provolone. Dressed with fresh provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pepperoncinis, spices, oil and vinegar, and all dressing. You're probably drooling on your Mac right now. However, somehow none of the components burst with the moan-enducing flavors I know them so individually well for. It was just bland and very, very dry. Is it the quality of the meat and produce? How can you bite into just bacon and salami and not taste a grain of salt? I can't put my finger on it. Coronado has a lot of great eateries to choose from. Had the worst experience ever at their deli. We were trying to get a quick lunch, and we ordered a simple salad and a sandwich. It took cooks forever to make it. The girls looked like they had no idea what they were doing. I ended up running late for my appointment. When we discovered that they also messed up the order (forgot the cheese), I decided that they really deserve a negative yelp review. If you can avoid the place, please do. Whilst walking around Coronado today we felt quite hungry, I can't quite understand HOW seeing as I had eaten such a huge meal yesterday but anyway we stumbled across Avenue Subs in the Avenue Liquor store. The full sub is enough for two and you get a free drink and cookie. It was only 6.99 plus tax. We went for the Orange Avenue sub. Whilst the food was pretty good it was not amazing, it was not something I would feel the urge to go back for time and time again. Also it took them a very long time to make it and we were the only people in there! If you are hungry it's an inexpensive lunch choice. read more

Love the new Sub Shop (Avenue Subs). Friendly counter service, enormous subs for $6.99 (easily enough to feed two hungry people). Lunch specials and military discounts, too.
