Great location and great staff! Everyone is so friendly and they all recommend great wines and pairings. We had the best olive oil with hints of lemon while we enjoyed our wine tasting. The outdoor seating is great for small groups. Some of the best white wines I've ever had. The Sauvignon blanc was refreshing with some sweet notes. The Chardonnay was light and not overly butterly. The reds were delicious as well but unfortunately I don't remember which ones we tried. They also had a great selection of other spirits and obviously an abundance of different olive oils. vom FASS Oils Vinegars Spirits, otherwise known as, Coronado Tasting Room has variety and depth. The company originated in Southern Germany over 25 years ago and specializes in working with small family producers of extra virgin olive oils, balsamic vinegars, some spices, craft spirits and wine. While most of us are familiar with the differences of wines and beers, there are vast differences with spirits, oils and vinegars as well. Some of these are collected, and can cost as much as fine wines! vom FASS provides us the opportunity to taste the varieties available to us, without buying the whole bottle. From my pictures you can see the vast array of tasting opportunities. We tried a flight of spirits recently. Of course, we found our favorite and some that we weren't so keen on. And that's the point ..... to try and find what we, individually, like the best for us. The staff was super accommodating. Seldom do I drink spirits neat, so I asked for a mixer which they accommodated me with. Also I was sharing, and they gladly provided additional glasses. So we sipped the spirits neat and then added some with a mixer to replicate what we drank at home. The staff readily answered all our questions, and was attentive. It should be noted that all the products are from a very small group of producers. This is can be good and bad, but the variety was still large. This was a fun and educational experience. read more

My husband and I had a beautiful Saturday date day at Coronado island. After lunch at Peohe's, we walked around this cute shopping village and we found this lovely wine tasting room. Both of us love wine tastings. But even better, this place not only has wine tastings but also offer whiskey tasting and tequila & vodka .... tastings. My husband is a huge whiskey Rye lover, so he did a Rye flight. For me, I only love rum other than wine, so they recommended me to try this special port barrel Barbados rum. OMG, it is amazing! I just love it so much, maybe I will say this is probably the best rum I've ever had, it is so smooth and so deep. Just like how the bartender described, you are feeling like you are on a vacation. They have 4 stores in CA, about 35 stores in the US, and about 300 worldwide currently, Vom Fass is located in the Hub in Hillcrest a few doors down from the Trader Joes....parking was easily accomplished this afternoon. Pretty much everything here is in a Tetra pak type poly bag inside a ceramic barrel. One of my reasons for wanting to check it out was that often, when you purchase Olive Oil, it's in fairly large containers(at least if you want it economically priced anyway).....well, at Vom Fass, you can purchase as little as 50 ml, I think , which is just under two ounces. That way, if you only need a little bit, you only have to buy a little bit. Both staffers advised that the olive oil would stay viable for 6-8 months, which I think is a stretch.....MUCH better to use it before six months. I picked up 100 ml of the very assertive and peppery Don Giovanni EVOO from Sardinia($6.99) and the grassy/citrusy organic Madonia EVOO from Sicily(same price). We have a ton of different vinegars at home, both standard and flavored, so it will be a LONG while before it's necessary to re-stock. Booze, though? Can never have enough of that. My wife selected 200 ml of the Pink Grapefruit($26.99), which is one of the MOST popular they carry. She also got 200 ml of the Crancello($24.99). I got 200 ml of the Cherry Vodka($19.99) which is excellent, 200 ml of the Williams pear brandy($18.99) and 375 ml of the Libertine Absinthe 72($34.99), which packs a wallop! Hannah was a great help, and when we were trying liqueurs, she brought out some fresh made chocolate mini-cupcakes topped with crancello flavored frosting, which was both a nice gesture, and very tasty little morsel! Because we spent over $100.00, we got a gwp, the Jamaican gift sampler(a $10.00) value. We had fun, and will be back, because honestly, the gift giving possibilities are virtually endless. It's very much on the pricey side, and that is why 4 stars instead of 5, but they have some cool stuff, and it's a worthwhile trip to go there. read more

When I first moved here I went to the closest Trader Joe's Siri could find at that time (I was still in a hotel room!) and I happened to walk into VOM FASS while I was visiting. I was overly excited to check this place out having recently visited a similar store up in Milwaukee. This store was much better. Every time I've visited this place I have been immediately greeted and offered help. Most recently we were greeted by this awesome guy. Sadly I cannot remember your name but we chatted about military life and working 2 jobs, so if that's you. Shout out you're awesome. Anyways husband had never been here so he walked around and even he was impressed. That is saying something from a guy who could typically care less about flavored olive oil and vinegar. In the past I have tried way too many flavors but I have to say Fig and blueberry are probably my favorites. Their "plain" aged balsamic is fantastic also, and a little cheaper. Parking can be a challenge during peak times and like others mention it is a bit expensive in my opinion. It's a nice treat, but not sure they would be staples to me. With the holidays coming up I think it would be a cool gift to give to someone culinarily inclined! I didn't ask but I imagine they probably sell gift cards too. read more

Great tasting room in a cute shopping center in Hillcrest. Family friends brought some liquors to Christmas and everyone liked them so much we decided to make a family outing here one afternoon. The owners here were really sweet and welcoming. I loved that there was such a variety of things to taste, from oil and vinegars to scotch and whiskey, and every yummy flavored fruit liquor in between. This is a great place to find gifts for friends and family with discerning tastes. You can choose from a variety of sizes of bottles so there really is something for everyone on your list. I know where I will be shopping for the holidays this year! The only downside to this location is that it can be difficult to find a parking spot, between various shops, a gym, and limited parking. read more

I stumbled upon this gem only by chance! I was in search of a local made product- Boy Drinks World Serrano Bitters. The previous business I bought this product no longer carries this, but the gal who worked at Pigment said I can go on Boy Drinks Worlds website & search Where to Buy. And this is where Vom Fass comes along. Since we were already in North Park- hubby calls to make sure Voss is still open. I guess his call came right before closing time & the man said he'd wait for us- already told in advance about the product we're looking for. Hubby drove like a bat outta hell & sure enough- Vom had their door wide open & store lights were still on! Hubby didn't even come to a complete stop. I just tuck & rolled. Now- talk about customer service! Jay was the gentleman that went above & beyond JUST waiting for me! But, besides that (and here I am thinking this was gonna be a quick transaction- since he was kind enough to just wait for me). Jay & I began talking about the other types of bitters that Boy Drink World makes. And then- the taste samples begin! No freaking way! I tasted the Passion Fruit bitters- which I seriously thought was sugary sweet... no way! There's a smokiness to it. THEN Jay makes an Old Fashion for me w/ the passion fruit bitters! It was served in the tiniest glass but served its purpose! Jay even gave me samples of the Honey Vinegarette & Calamansi Vinegar too. Don't sweat, VOM FASS will clean your clothes! - Food stuck on dishes? Worry no more, friends, VOM FASS gets the gunk! Long story short, the VOM FASS signage doesn't do the products inside any justice at all. One you roll through the front door you'll quickly see that you're in oil and vinegar heaven. I walked in here not knowing what to expect but I got to sample some different flavored vinegars. I saw mango and tried the sweet one and the one mixed with vinegar and mango. I preferred the mango vinegar one. It was different but good on food or salad. It had the taste of vinegar with that hint of mango. The lady helping me was nice. I didn't catch her name. She helped me choose my flavor and was nice. I got a 40 milliliter bottle free from the Belly app. I thought that was cool. The lady told me to bring back the bottle and I could get another one. I'd definitely pay for the next one. Cool store. They also have wines in the back. I definitely recommend this place if you like vinegars and wine. It's located in a strip mall. Fell in luv with this company while in Sedona. So happy they are in town! They have specialty oils, vinegars, liquors, spirits, whiskey and cognac's. For culinary enthusiasts this is an adult upgrade to a candy shop. Sample unique flavors and combinations and get innovative in the kitchen. I tasted some items that would pair well with certain cheeses, others would be fabulous with certain artisan breads. So many options and ideas were flooding my thoughts as I tasted the different drinks. My favorite is the Blueberry Vinegar. Then I tried the Calamansi Vinegar really good. It's a cross between a lemon & lime and sort of like a tangerine. Then I tried Basil Extra Virgin Olive oil. Mmm Basil! I tried the Jack's Choice Irish Single Malt Whiskey. It's a very nice whiskey easy to drink. It's like a nice pat on the back. Then I moved over to the Liquor. I went with the Pink Grapefruit Liqueur. You won't find anything this exquisite at the corner liquor store. It's fruity, smooth and a tinge of bittersweet. Like a really good sorbet ice-cream. Just mmmm yum! Let's have another! This is a very unique awesome shop. European's got it good like that. It's a German company and nothing like you ever experienced in a long while. Get to Vom Fass and get lost in their many offerings. Incredible products! So once you pick out what you like, choose cute bottles to store it in. They go from cute to fancy. Custom whiskey, chai vodka, abysynth and really cool dispensers. They have amazing olive oils and specialty vinegar's and you can taste anything! I have a little buzz from the vodka and whiskey. I bought a couple of their bottles which is required and got 2 bomb (Rosemary and a San Giovanni) olive oils. With the bottles I picked it was $25 but the oil itself is only $6.99 for most (some were more expensive). They get you on the cool bottles. You can't bring your own bottle. They did have cheaper bottles than what I picked. There are a few spices and balsamic pearls too. The staff were friendly and very helpful. They had a high quality balsamic that I would go back for when I run out but it was of course the most expensive one at $22 a 100ml. read more

The selection of oils and vinegars are impressive here. If you do decide to get a multi pack, be sure you know what you are buying. The prices, quantities and jars are deceiving and confusing. It adds up quick. My three pack of 50mL vinegar turned out to be almost $40. Once I looked at the receipt, I was charged $6.50 per jar IN addition to the vinegar. They offer wide range of balsamic vinegars, EVOO, and spirits. The balsamic vinegars have all sorts of fruit combinations, the calamansi balsamic vinegar is amazing. However, these can be pricey too. This is the go-to spot if you're looking for unique EVOO, most are imported. The best ones IMO are the garlic and rosemary EVOO. However, these are quite expensive. A small like 6 oz bottle can be as much as $15. They have a whole wine bare and spirits where you can sample some of the products too. One neat thing is that they offer bottles that you can refill at their store. Just bring the bottle in for a refill on your favorite EVOO or vinegar. tl;dr: amazing products but pricey! read more

What a cool, unique little shop! Was in the area, and saw that it was rated "hot and new" on Yelp, so figured I'd check it out. Essentially, they have casks of high-quality, craft vinegars, oils and liquors (scotch, whiskey, rum, brandy, liqueurs, absinthe, etc.). You can taste everything, and buy whatever you want in the quantity you want. I love salads w/ oil and vinegar, so tried several of the oils paired w/ vinegars -- (1) pumpkin seed oil w/ apple vinegar; (2) fig chili oil w/ orange vinegar; (3) sesame oil w/ ginger grapeseed and lemon vinegar; and (4) pumpkin seed oil w/ pomegranate vinegar. They were all really good. Got a 100 ml bottle of an oil and vinegar (about $10 each; you pay $3 and up for bottle, which you get to keep, and can come back to re-fill). Then tried a few of the liquors, including the absinthe (they have some cool set-ups w/ water dispenser, fancy spoons to hold the sugar cube and glasses, if you want to go all out. After trying a few, I went with the pink grapefruit liqueur, which was really fresh and very tasty (not super cheap at $27 for 200 ml). You could drink straight, or would be very nice w/ club soda or prosecco, That very night, went to a friend's for a casual dinner, and got the chance to sample it all. Bought a baguette and served it w/ some of the oil and vinegar (wonderful), made a salad, and tossed it w/ a little more of the oil and vinegar, plus some salt and pepper (perfect). A little fresh pasta from Assenti's, topped w/ sautéed shrimp, and then a snifter of the grapefruit liqueur to finish. Fantastico. Will definitely be back and bringing some friends w/ me next time! read more

I walked into this place on 9/16 on a whim and wasn't planning on buying anything. As soon as I walked in, I saw on their door that they were closed 5 minutes ago... So I turn around and start to walk out. Next thing I know, the SUPER friendly and INCREDIBLY helpful staff insist that I stick around for a few minutes to check things out. They never pushed me to buy anything. All they did is asked what I like, and showed me what they think fit my taste. BOTH EMPLOYEE'S WERE SO KIND. The selection of whisky, cognac, rum, tequila, spices, oils and vinegars are OUT OF THIS WORLD. The only thing is that everything is a bit pricy but that is what you get with super high quality stuff. Everything in there is worth the money if you have the money to spend. THIS IS THE PERFECT PLACE FOR GIFTS. I 100% plan on coming back here during Christmas time. I ended up getting a 350ml of some of the best American Rye Whisky I have ever tasted for $40. read more

This was my first visit to a Vom Fass location and I can't rave enough about how much fun it was! I wanted to take all the oils and vinegars home! The oils are top notch quality and the vinegars even more so. The vinegars are unlike a lot of the ones you find in most "premium" oil and vinegar shops. Most shops have a slight flavoring with a very watery cheap vinegar base. Vom Fass infused vinegars are thick and vibrant and remind you of a fruit purée. Their products are truly a refined product worthy of a gift for a fancy occasion or even to treat yourself, especially if you are a foodie. Hannah greeted me with a smile and lots of energy, she is passionate about the products and so knowledgeable! She made sure I left with all the best deals and recommended products to taste and really creative ways to use them. Make sure you get Hannah when you visit! Walked in and was completely overwhelmed by the oils, vinegars, liquors, grappa, absinthe - so many things. The owners are a husband and wife who were super-cool and friendly. The staff offered to let me taste whatever I wanted and answered questions and were really knowledgeable about their products. I promptly signed up for their email list as they offer wine, chocolate and cheese classes; absinthe classes, etc etc. I recommend you stop into this adorable shop, you will find something in here you like!!! read more

Thanks Yelpers for excellent reviews which brought Vom Fass to my attention! Funny, it's located maybe 20 yards from the Hillcrest TJs I've been to countless times and I never knew of this specialty store. Today my wife and I walked inside Vom Fass with eyes wide open as we saw countless ceramic vats containing different oils, vinegars, whiskeys, brandy, etc.. We were immediately greeted and the associate familiarized us with their operations. Associates use a tap on vats to provide samples on (on a thick, quality spoon!) for customers to try. My wife tasted many and settled upon two oils and one vinegar. Also neat in the operation is that you select from different sizes and shapes of reusable glass containers. The associate then labels and fills your container. I like this sustainability part where you can later return with the clean container to be filled with another product. Two things hold me back from giving 5th star: - Wife and I felt staff pushed sales pitches a tad too much possibly for commissions. - I want time to consume and reflect further on their products. So Yelpers, Vomm Fass is definitely unique and worth a visit - you won't be disappointed! read more

Came here recently for their wine tasting, they were hosting one of my favorite wineries from Paso Robles - Sculpterra. It was a nice set up, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Wow! What a unique place! The atmosphere here is cool. I came here for the grand opening. The blueberry oil on top of the ice cream was delicious. I got some other samples here as well. Try the cafe Machiatto liqueur with the Chai vodka. I really liked the fig oil with chilies. Can't wait to come here more in the future. I bought the sour cherry vodka because I tried a sample and it was delicious. The apple, gouda with the date oil was really good! It was date oil, if I remember correctly. The atmosphere here is really cool. I also tried the maletti, I don't remember which one. Might of just been maletti and there was a greek one that I tried. The greek olive oil is Agora. I looked in the Vom Fass catalog. This place can be hard to find, it's in the parking lot behind Napizza. The service that I got here was great. I'll have to try the whiskies next time. Maybe I'll try the absinthe. I should of tried the absinthe in the first place, oh well. read more
