My husband and I had the most amazing time staying at Avenue O. We chose this bed and breakfast as our destination to get married. We wanted to do something special with just us and Avenue O was the perfect choice! Polly and Jeff were absolute pleasures to work with! This historic home was so charming and cozy. I loved how beautifully it was decorated with a coastal theme. I loved all the beachy touches from the artwork, light fixtures, colors, furniture, etc. Everything was so elegant. We stayed in the Seawall Suite which is the largest room. It has a nice balcony as well. It was also decorated beautifully like the rest of the house. It was very cozy and comfortable. We chose to get married in the backyard near the gazebo. It was perfect. It was just my husband and I, Polly, Jeff and Heidi of course. Heidi actually walked me to the gazebo as if she was walking me "down the aisle." It was adorable! She's the Yorkie in the photos. Our ceremony was quick and intimate. Jeff did an excellent job and made us feel at ease as if we were just hanging out with friends. Not only is Polly an amazing decorator, she is also a very talented cook. She even made us a wedding cake! It was very pretty and so delicious!! I believe she said it was an Amaretto buttercream with strawberry filling. It was sooooooooo amazing!! In the morning, she made us an incredible homemade breakfast! It started off with yogurt parfaits and fresh granola. Yum! Then there were mini pumpkin pancakes, fresh potatoes, bacon and scrambled eggs. The bacon was so yum. It tasted like a maple-peppered bacon but I'm not sure what it was. All I know is it was awesome! Our wedding package was so reasonably-priced. We didn't have to do anything except pay and show up. Polly took care of the rest. We just can't say enough about how wonderful our stay was. Polly is so great at taking care of people. She and Jeff were both fantastic hosts. If you're ever in Galveston, I would highly recommend staying with them instead of at a hotel. You won't regret it!! read more

This was such a nice experience on all fronts. The owners are really nice people and go out of their way to accommodate your wishes. Polly is a very talented chef and it shows in every dish she prepared during our stay. Jeff has deep inside knowledge of Galveston and its history. This was very helpful as we had no experience in the area. The Jones provided us every comfort we expected and did not fall short on making us feel at home. The location is the perfect distance in between the strand and the sea wall beach area. Parking is right in front of the house, secure and convenient. Delightful in every way is how I would describe the experience my boyfriend and I had staying at this Galveston Island gem. The owners and hosts-with-the-mosts, Jeff and Polly, are kind, fun to talk with, and are incredibly helpful in making your experience a great one. And, as other reviewers have correctly stated, you will be blown away with the care that is put into the home cooked breakfasts each morning. Delicious! Polly also graciously helped coordinate a few surprises from my boyfriend, as well, including flowers one night and chocolate covered strawberries (they were deluxe, let me tell you)& champagne on another. I found this place when looking for a dog-friendly place to stay and we were pleasantly surprised with how great our visit was! We were lodged in the Rainforest room and loved the whale tub. There were snacks in our room and throughout the house and breakfast was a medley of fruit, bacon, ham wrapped eggs, a chocolate chip caramel muffin, and coffee. Delicious. Connie was a great host and was very accommodating. We utilized the DVD collection and we (and the dog) loved the lush backyard. One of our favorite things were the two bikes available to use. We cruised all over the island and along the sea wall. There were outdoor showers available to rinse off sand and such after a day at the beach, but Connie was very relaxed in terms of coming in the house with a little sand or water. This was my first time at Avenue O Bed and Breakfast and I have to say my boyfriend and I had such a delightful time. He and I were trying to find a place where we could get away for a couple of days, but not be to far from home. We were both EXTREMELY grateful that we found this place. Polly and Jeff make you feel like royalty and they cater to your every need. We were greeted with a Wecome Sign, homemade cupcakes and their cute little dog Heidi. The room we chose was the Balinese Room. When you walk into this room you feel the ZEN and tranquillity of mind. There was a lot of thought that went into the decor of this room from it's perfectly matched pieces to the towels, bathrobes, and linens. Everything was of high quality. We both fell in love with the shower. It felt like rain falling upon your skin. The view from our balcony was of their beautiful garden. I could good lost in my daydreams of it's beauty. In the mornings Jeff brewed a fresh pot of coffee from a local vendor in Galveston and it was perfectly matched to the most FABULOUS breakfast that Polly prepared. OMG!! The food was SCRUMPTIOUS!! There was nothing left on either one of our plates. Avenue O is close to the beach, the Strand, Pleasure Pier and great restaurants. My boyfriend and I will be back!! We thoroughly enjoyed staying at Avenue O to celebrate our anniversary. Polly is an amazing cook and although I'm generally not a breakfast eater I certainly became one the two days we were there! Our suite was completely updated and spacious. We also enjoyed a tour of the yard which held fruit and pecan trees. Each afternoon we enjoyed homemade chocolate chip cookies made with the pecans grown on site. They also have bikes for use of the guests which was a treat to spend one afternoon touring Galveston and it's history biking. Jeff could be a historian for the area and has many interesting stories and great suggestions of things to do while you stay there. You will not be disappointed if you treat yourself to being their guests! read more

I have never been to a Bed & Breakfast before. I have heard amazing things about this place and finally got the chance to check out what all the "hype" was about this Avenue O place. I called Polly Jones, (the owner) to reserve a room for a few days at her B&B. She got us in by 8:30a, from driving through the night. That day we were checked in and welcomed with open arms. Our names were in the Welcome to Avenue O frames. We loved seeing our names as soon as we walked in. Jeff and Polly have been the kindest couple from making homemade breakfast to fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies!! Jeff also knew all of the sights to see around town! Came here for a Thanksgiving getaway and it was great. The house was very cute and centrally located to both the seawall and the strand. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. They keep a clean house with lots of snacks and they are always available with recommendations on things to do and places to eat. Breakfast is usually very large and very sweet. So if you want something more healthy and less hardy, I'd definitely let them know up front. The themed rooms were just done enough without being too corny. (we had the rain forest room- complete with hot tub and lots of foliage) The only problem we had with our room was that the wood floor was very slippery for getting in and out of the hot tub and I would've liked if more towels were provided off the bat. We made good use of the bikes they had and were able to explore all over the island and made friends with some of the other guests. All in all it was a nice, laid-back trip and I would definitely recomend Avenue O. read more

This was our first stay at a B&B. We couldn't have picked a better place for a first time experience. We were greeted by Connie and Jim. They are both very friendly and we felt like we were old friends. They showed us around the beautifully decorated living room and dining room. Then took us upstairs to our accommodations, the South Pacific room. Wow, so romantic!!! My girlfriend just looked at me with the biggest smile. Connie and Jim left us and we looked thru our room. She turned and saw the largest coral roses we both had ever seen. Next to them fresh chocolate chip cookies. The bedroom was amazing. Next on to the bath, two person shower and two person jacuzzi all set in modern decor. Breakfast in bed was the equivalent to 5 star. Plus, Saturday evening I paid for the romantic package. It was that and more. There is your own private balcony... And it's very private. I highly recommend Avenue O. read more

The balcony was also nice and the backyard was gorgeous with a gazebo and various flowers. The breakfast and yummy treats were delicious and the hosts were very accommodating to bring our breakfast to us due to COVID. We also highly recommend ordering the homemade pizza for dinner. The place was very clean and we felt very comfortable staying there in the midst of COVID. Fantastic offbeat welcoming place to stay that has the vibe of old Galveston. If you prefer Sheraton suites or Holiday Inn Express kind of lodgings, then Avenue O B&B will not be your cup of tea. But, if you'd like good value cool funky lodging with great atmosphere and welcoming hosts, then this is the place for you. And, if you have gluten allergies or even serious celiac sensitivity, then the hosts can definitely accommodate with completely gluten free (albeit very sweet) cookies and breakfasts. We have stayed at many bed and breakfast around the country but this was the most amazing stay at a bed and breakfast that we have ever had!! It has a perfect location in the Silk Stocking Historical District. 4 blocks from the seawall and a short walk or drive to the Strand or cruise terminal. Close to many restaurants and shopping. Jeff, Polly and Heidi (fur friend) will make you feel right at home the minute you walk into the door. Upon arrival, Jeff offered to help with our luggage. We stayed in the Balinese room pre-cruise. It is beautiful! It has a separate sitting area and the bathroom is ZEN! There is a small private balcony that is perfect for morning coffee, which is locating directly outside your door, that faces the backyard garden. From the dual shower heads, soft robes, special soaps, loofas to the cedar countertop. The attention to detail is amazing. Post-cruise, we stayed in the Seawall Suite. It is sophistically decorated in soft sea glass blue. It has very large balcony that faces the garden. The large bathroom has a jacuzzi tub which we loved along with the large shower. The beds are very comfortable with top notch bedding. Polly's breakfast are 5+. We left nothing on our plates the entire stay. She is an amazing chef that cooks from scratch using ingredients from her garden and will accommodate dietary restrictions upon request. There is fresh ground coffee that goes with the breakfast of the morning and Jeff's special made bacon is delicious!! During your stay, be sure to order Polly's homemade, from scratch pizza. You will not be disappointed. We did not want to fight the 4th of July crowd and this was a perfect dinner and truly the best pizza. We only wish that we would have ordered one of her private dinners during our stay. The minute we stepped into the Avenue O, we felt like family. Polly and Jeff have made some amazing updates to this bed and breakfast since buying it 3 years ago. It is beautifully decorated in calming island colors. Very well maintained and clean. The backyard garden has a gazebo, large pecan trees, amazing flowers, wildlife and Polly's garden. When you come in from your day, there is fresh baked goodies to snack on. Other amenities include an open bar, board games, cards and books to read and if you are new to Galveston, Jeff will recommend things to do, restaurants and a bit of Galveston history. They also offer free parking during your cruise with pre and post cruise transfer which was a huge plus and stress reliver for us. We enjoyed our first stay with Jeff and Polly so much that we booked 2 more weekends before we left. Truly amazing!! read more

What a cute place, AND dog friendly! We only stayed one night, but we really wanted to stay longer. The house is beautiful (the dining room is stunning), the bed was comfortable, and because nothing is far from everything in Galveston, it was no more than 5 minutes from everything. The cons: the surrounding neighborhood on one side was a little iffy but not scary, and the bathroom was kind of dated, hence the 4 star review. My dog liked the spacious back yard and everyone was ok with me letting her off the leash back there to stretch her legs. Breakfast was delicious, and since no one was coming in right after us, the owner very graciously allowed us to extend our checkout to 2pm so that our dog could stay in the air conditioned room while we went to see a museum. I had the extreme pleasure of staying here for 3 nights in early July. The new owners Jeff & Polly Jones took over in mid February of this year. They are such wonderful hosts for this really cool and historic home. First of all Pollys breakfasts are incredible. My favorite breakfast was the chicken and waffles with home fries and scrambled eggs. Polly also made cherry brownies which are incredible. (The chocolate chip cookies are also dangerously delicious!) The bed in the Asian Room was so comfortable it was like sleeping on a cloud. The courtyard provides an enchanting garden, fountain, trees, and gazebo which would be a great setting for weddings or other romantic anniversaries. The beach, restaurants, and Galveston's Pleasure Pier are within easy walking distance and make for a nice after dinner stroll. Jeff & Polly are wonderful hosts and I wish them well in their new endeavor. I will return as soon as my schedule allows. read more

It has a private balcony that we used to enjoy a glass of wine overlooking the backyard. The only flaw in the entire weekend was the shower--it could use updating. She also makes the best cookies and had no problem with my husband and I needing a vegetarian breakfast (which were delicious!). Great location, easy to get to, and a nice get away. It was a group of 8 ladies that stayed here. So, we basically took up the entire place. The place was built in 1924, so it's an older building which gave the place so much character. The host, Connie, has it decorated in a unique way. I will say it is very eclectic, yet fun. The breakfast is a sit down breakfast. Connie will have the table set with coffee, orange juice and either a muffin or some kind of fruit waiting for you. The food she makes and serves is really good. My bed was comfortable. I shared my room with 2 other girls and we had plenty of space to move about. My only down fall with the place is the lack of dusting and vacuuming. The downstairs area had a few dust bunnies that looked like they had been there for a while. And she does has coffee makers in the rooms, but they didn't work very well. We asked Connie if we could brew our own in the morning, (we are early risers. Earlier than Connie) and Connie had no objections to putting the coffee pot in the dinning area and letting us brew our own. But Connie was super nice and very accommodating with all of us. She was very helpful with our tours, and was able to give some good recommendations. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The owner is very nice. But, I have to say, I didn't. The decor is really old, the bed is sagging in the middle (I weigh under 100 pounds) the floor is dirty on my bare feet, and the wi-fi comes and goes. :( I'm in the Safari Room. The breakfast was very nice but I did ask for something healthy upfront...no can do. The place is in a great location, has great potential and needs some serious attention and TLC. read more

We needed a recommendation. They provided it. After returning from the beach, we did not think that our swimsuits and towels would be dry before we left the next morning. Connie washed and dried them for us. Breakfast was always wonderful. I used to live in Houston and frequently went to Galveston and have many fond memories there. We stayed the weekend for my birthday. We stayed in the South Pacific room which was great! The linens and bed were very comfortable. It was decorated with a canopy draped bed and decor that goes along with the South Pacific theme. We had a nice big jacuzzi tub and a big porch to sit and enjoy the beautiful grounds. We were greeted with homemade chocolate chip cookies and a bag with goodies to make s'mores at a fire pit that is lit each evening. Those little touches is what Connie does to ensure that you feel comfortable. There is a sit down full breakfast that can't be missed! Connie's bananas foster French toast is yummy!!! We will definitely be making another trip to Galveston and staying at this incredible B&B. read more

Its dog friendly and no fees, which is unheard of. Rate was perfect. The owners were so nice and helpful, even when I lost my key I had to wake them up. After spending the last few months at sea, my wife wanted to surprise me when My ship came into port. She took me off that damm ship as soon as the gangway was dropped. I was ready for solid ground and a cool comfortable bed....could not have chosen a more romantic and pleasant place. We stayed in the Safari room. It was wonderfully cool and romantically dark. Trust me on this one, very few ships sail these day s without a good cook..... However , my breakfasts here at "o" were world class. I'm hoping our ship's cook could someday be as great...Our room was clean, and the room cleaning each day was super. Location wise this place is perfect..... Avenue O is close to everything..... Both sides of the island are close. The neighborhood was quiet and the streets had shady sidewalks to stroll every morning..... Great place to walk. This was my first stop at Galveston. My girlfriend and I stayed at the Avenue O last summer and we loved everything about it. The decor is upscale classic and the themed rooms were well appointed. And the tub. Awesome!!! Close to the beach, bikes to use to ride around, and the most impressive breakfasts! This weekend we were looking forward to returning and escaping the city for a few days. Alas, at the last minute a hurricane decided to visit Galveston as well. We spoke with Connie and she graciously refunded our money until we are able to find another weekend getaway. I really appreciated the fact that the owners went out of their way to provide gluten free food. However, the place was not well maintained and was dirty. The stairs were dirty, our room was dirty when we checked in. We refused main service the second day and I just cleaned myself. It's a good location but the housecleaning service needs to be fired. This was our first time staying at a Bed & Breakfast and Mr. Jim & Mrs. Connie made our experience a lovely one, something we'll never regret and will do more often. We stayed in the European Suite which was very cozy. It was nice being able to mingle with the other guests as we enjoyed a delicious and filling breakfast prepared for us daily! We just came from staying at this bed&breakfast for the first time. Me and my partner were celebrating our 4th anniversary, so we decided to do something different. We got there Friday at 3, Connie the owner was really nice, she show us around and then she show us our room. We stayed at the Pacific Room, it was nice, a king bed really comfortable, the bathroom was nice, the jacuzzi was big enough for 2. The view from the balcony was pretty and the full breakfast was super yummy. The only thing was it needed a little bit more of detail cleanness but overall we enjoy our romantic getaway, my girl definitely loved the romantic package I got for her Friday night. read more

My husband and I got married here 3 days ago on 5/15/14. We also stayed overnight in the Rainforest Room. We did a very small 6 person wedding & it was such a beautiful & stress-free experience. Connie was amazing from day one! She emailed the day after we reserved the Rainforest Room to ask our breakfast preferences! The beauty of the grounds, the wedding decorations, fresh flowers, string lights, tie back chair covers, arranged seating under the covered patio area, stained glass waterfall & cake table were all so elegant. Connie was extremely attentive to our group without being intrusive. The size of the cake & the amount of champagne was generous. Connie even took a group photo of all of us. When we returned from having lunch elsewhere, our cake was waiting on the little table in the room and my bouquet was placed in a vase with water. The suite looked exactly like it did in pics from the website plus there was an A/C window unit in each room which made it very comfortable. The whale tub was glorious, the breakfast was delicious and elegant - I'm talking orange juice in champagne flutes and tea light candles on the table. Connie is knowledgable about what to do in Galveston & its rich history. This is a super quiet location, very private feeling. We loved having our own patio & the shower big enough for 2, not to mention those yummy chocolate chip cookies waiting for us in the room when we first arrived.
