Free laundry, complimentary coffee, small workout center, large pool with lovely deck not to mention a fabulous secluded beach greeted us at the Galvestonian. The complex is on the quiet east end of the island. We stayed in a 12th floor condo with a spectacular unobstructed full ocean view. Our 1 bedroom condo #1208 was perfect for romantic getaway. Granite counters, travertine shower and nice comfortable furnishings. The kitchen was fully stocked Including dish soap. We found every thing we needed. The king bed is very comfortable I slept like a rock. The temperature of the condo was always comfortable and we loved sitting out on the lanai watching sunrise and sunset. You can even see the lights on the pier. Or just watch the ships go by. Many amenities included: grills can be reserved, bikes can be rented. Games by the pool. Books in the lobby. The is a lovely stone path the the beach lined with tropical flowering plant. The grounds are immaculate. Guests were quiet and friendly. It was not crowded while we were there. We never waited for an elevator which run quickly. The staff is wonderfully friendly and helpful. Everyone always greets you. The place is very welcoming. Great restaurants not too far away. I recommend and I'm coming back. This is how a vacation should be!

Very nice place. Nice staff. Great beach. Great views. Just wish they had an on site bar/restaurant.

We had an absolutely wonderful time in Galveston this past weekend, and I'm convinced that The Galvestonian was the best choice on the island for us. There were a few tiny things keeping me from a 5-star review, but I would definitely return, and recommend this place to others. The first thing to know is that it's located on East Beach, away from the strip on Seawall Blvd. where most everything else is. Though it makes trips to restaurants and the historical district a tad less convenient, it had a more private, relaxing atmosphere than the crowded popular areas. Also, they had a private beachwalk for easy access to the beach, rather than trying to J-walk across the busy Boulevard, as I assume people do on Seawall. Though most of the time we considered the seclusion a plus, it was kind of a bummer when we were stranded in a torrential lunchtime downpour and we didn't wanna brave the drive out to a restaurant, so we resorted to random vending machine food. In that case, it would have been cool if the place had it's own restaurant or cafe, but since it's mostly-privately-owned condos with full kitchens I can see why they don't. We loved our room, which had 2 private balconies overlooking the beach. It was clean, bright, and spacious, and the beds were SO soft and comfortable that it was no problem getting to sleep at all. The kitchen was fully fitted with all the pots/pans/dishes/cutlery one would need for a short or extended stay, which was nice. We also had a lot of fun renting bicycles from the front desk for a leisurely spin around the island, and you can also rent tennis rackets and balls (they have 2 courts on the ground level at the front). The Redbox-esque DVD rental selection was pretty nonexistant, so we were thankful that the bad weather didn't last long while we were there. I guess the bottom line is that, you're in Galveston for the beach, not to watch DVDs that you can see anywhere. All in all, I can say I'm a fan. Thanks for a great weekend!

Spotted a little rainbow from our 12th floor balcony.. The views are gorgeous!

Spectacular Views and wonderful people.. It's away from the humdrum of seawall blvd but that's a good thing. The beach is clean and safe for kids.. Loved the hospitality. Shall keep on coming back

Drinks the evening, coffee in the morning.

We liked that this is a pretty property with a quiet, laid back vibe, and also you don't have to walk across the busy Seawall blvd to get to the beach, The pool is really large with lots of furniture around it, and there's a big hot tub .... If it's not so hot outside in Texas heat that you actually want to get in hot water LOL! . Our family enjoyed spending the day back & forth from pool to beach, and rather than go out to eat or cook on the condo, we got the most out of the day by grilling on the bbq pits btwn the beach and pool. What we liked was that everyone can enjoy their time and do their own thing, without some of the crazy loud stuff and didn't have people crammed everywhere. If you want a party vibe w rocking music by the pool, this probably isn't your place. But if you enjoy a clean pool and clean beach with great views, look no further. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we appreciated having clean towels to use at the pool - you could exchange wet or sandy towels from fresh ones at the 24 hour manned front desk. No matter what condo you stay in, the views are beautiful, with floor to ceiling windows and huge sliding doors. Do take a look at pics bc all units are individually owned and decorated, but no matter which one, the views are spectacular! Nice place and we will for sure choose it again.

The Galvestonian is a great resort on the east end of Galveston. My fiancé and I have enjoyed spending time here over the last year. As you'll see in other reviews there is an awesome pool, beach access with showers, grills, hammocks, pool chairs, etc. the Galvestonian really has everything you need for a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or anything in between. All of these things equip you for a good time, but I think what really makes the Galvestonian special is the service. The staff are amazing. They keep the grounds pristine. They always have beautiful flowers potted all around the building, the grass is always mowed, and the lobby is spotless. There is someone posted at the front desk 24/7 to help with any issues you run in to and keep the place safe. The best part is they are all so friendly and they even had a bottle of Prosecco waiting for my fiancé and I at the front desk when we got engaged out on the beach!

View from 107 balcony, facing right (sorry it's dim - I took the photo at sunrise).

Our room was on the top floor where the Seagull Rooms are located. It appears to be newly renovated. It was clean & comfy. The shower pressure was perfect, and the AC worked very well. It's located in the San Luis Resort with many attractions & restaurants nearby. The beach and breakwater viewpoint is across the street from the hotel. There was a Sugar Plum Market in the hotel on the day that we checked out. Wish I could have spent some time looking at all the Christmas goodies. There are just a few things that were less than ideal. The buffet breakfast was pretty basic, however they do serve Starbucks coffee. The coffee was good! I have to say that Marriott wins in the breakfast department over Hilton. The port shuttle is not complimentary. We could have used Uber instead of the shuttle. They do have a Park, Stay, & Go hotel offer for those with cars. Perhaps that's a better deal, but I'm pretty sure that the fees are added to the rate. I was impressed that they had a handheld steamer in the closet. We didn't get to use it, but it's a nice thing to have. I would have traded it for a pair of disposable slippers. It's the little conveniences that make me the happiest. It was cool to see the offshore oil drilling rigs glowing out in the distance at nighttime. I had never seen that before. On a clear day, you can barely see them out there. I really enjoyed the Gulf view from our room. Walking along the seawall at sunset was the best part. Would I stay here again? Yes, with a few minor adjustments. We would probably have breakfast at the IHOP next time. Other than what was mentioned earlier, it was all good.

The lighting is perfect in the relaxation lounge. There is champagne, snacks, even cucumbers for your eyes. I had a facial first, then the grapefruit massage (TX Ruby). There is so much to the facial; I was delightfully surprised each time I thought it was over that it wasn't over and a new treatment began! Both massage therapists' hands were pure magic. The only things I'd advise them to do differently is: no oil in the scalp massages, and less steam on the face during the facial. (Or ask the client beforehand) The Room - 501, Audra's room, the only option as far as I'm concerned. Spectacular view of the beach and ocean. Bring all your ghost hunting equipment. She preferred to speak through my witchboard, but there is a ouija board already there and set up for you! It was the cherry on top. The rest of the "normal" amenities were great, though I would've preferred a simpler shower (I needed an instruction manual haha), and a simple shower as well as an antique mirror would've matched the rest of the room much better. The interior designer needs help all over the place here... owls and monkeys amid jungle leaves at a beach hotel? No. And they really should've left the cream colour instead of the pink everywhere (the exterior paint especially) but that's just my opinion. The Pool - Fabulous! Perfect temperature and wonderful drinks, albeit a bit on the pricy side. The hot tub was a perfect temperature too, even if you just put your legs in. That being said, I honestly can't say we've ever had a stay that felt like a true 5-star experience. When you first walk in, the hotel makes a great impression. It's beautiful and captures that classic early-1900s historic hotel vibe it's clearly going for. The lobby smells amazing, and everything feels crisp, clean, and welcoming. Unfortunately, that feeling doesn't extend much past the lobby. The hallways leading to the rooms are often muggy and don't smell particularly fresh. Sleep can also be difficult since the walls seem very thin -- you can easily hear hallway conversations and noise from neighboring rooms. If you're paying extra for a beach view room, just know that the "view" may involve looking past a large carport structure, which takes away from the experience. Also, the shower in the room we had this last time was unbelievably small. Taller friends had to duck while in the shower. The bar service has consistently been disappointing over the years. It never seems like there's enough staff, which leads to long waits. Food options within the hotel are also limited, and if you're someone who likes snacks between meals, definitely plan ahead because grab-and-go options are hard to find and restaurant hours aren't especially convenient. We keep coming back because of the location and tradition, but there's definitely room for improvement to make the overall experience match the beautiful first impression.

At check-in, we were informed that a discounted rate could not be applied to one of the rooms due to hotel policy, despite the occupant qualifying. We were also charged a resort fee that included access to amenities such as the outdoor pool and lounge area, which were not available during our stay due to a private event, as well as Wi-Fi service that we experienced as intermittent. We requested a pack-and-play at check-in, but it was not delivered until several hours later and only after a follow-up call. Food pricing was also higher than expected. For example, we were charged $10 for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with fries for a child, which felt high for what was provided. A Sunday - Monday stay…read more We celebrated Valentine's the first Sunday-Monday in March in hopes of having the Island to ourselves. Instead of staying at the big hotel on The Strand, we decided to try Schaefer Haus. With two homes to select from, we selected what is Room 2 in the main haus. It is beautiful and filled with antique furnishings. Tammy and the rest of the staff are lovely. Tammy filled us in on the Happy Hour and Breakfast details and showed us our room; what is listed as the Freiberg (and now known as the Laura or Room2.) The room is comfortable. The bathroom includes a claw foot tub with shower head. There are three rooms available on the second floor and two on the third. Okay, here we go. (Let me first say, we have every intention of staying here again.) We arrived early. When we were shown our room, Room 1 and 3 were being cleaned and unoccupied. I was delighted at the idea of having the Haus to ourselves. Within an hour, both rooms were filled, as well as the third floor. As sound travels, I quickly realized there were some flaws in privacy. For instance, there is a second door in the bathroom that is right by the toilet. If opened, it would be into the space at the top of the stairs on the second floor shared by the three rooms. There is a gap at the base of the door that you could pass a stack of two magazines under. On the opposite side of the toilet is the window that is used to gain access to the private balcony. Only a sheer black curtain provides coverage from the two houses across the street. After dark, I turned the bathroom lights off and used the romantic amount of light that comes in through that door I was speaking of earlier. The actual bathroom door in no way secures to the door frame. That said, it stayed closed anytime one of us was depending on privacy. Let's talk sound. Around 2AM, Room 1 or 3 decided it was time to listen to some soothing sounds of Trip-House at volume 11. Okay. This did not wake me, but it woke the husband. However, around 3AM, what sounded like a man and woman began screaming violently at one another. This did wake me with deep concern. Ten minutes later - all quiet. We found out after breakfast, the music was coming from Room 1. Lastly, security. There is a tiny knob on Room 2 that acts as a dead bolt. Lock it! At least twice during the night someone vigorously checked our room doorknob as if they were confused about which room was theirs. Monday morning, breakfast was delicious. While there were no mimosas (which are available on Saturday and Sunday,) the quiche was fantastic and the bacon crisp! Coffee, water, juice, and milk were also available. Schaefer Haus should definitely be on your list for a stay on The Strand!

There were four of us, and the room felt surprisingly spacious with the pullout couch, balcony, and overall layout. We were directly across from the ocean, which made the stay even better. The location was excellent, the room was quiet, and parking was easy with plenty of available spaces. The staff was very friendly and let us check in early, which I greatly appreciated. The hotel has a fairly late at 4 p.m. The included breakfast was a nice bonus, and overall the hotel felt clean, comfortable, and well maintained. For around $160 for the night, I thought it was a good value for being right by the water. That said, I genuinely do not understand the $10 per night parking charge. They have you place a slip on your dashboard showing your length of stay, but we were sitting on our balcony overlooking the pool and parking lot until 3 a.m., and not once did we see security driving through, checking cars, or monitoring the lot. I'm honestly not sure why there is a parking fee. It seems parking should be included for hotel guests. Another thing we noticed is how dramatically prices jumped to extend our stay for Friday night. School's not out and the weather was quite chilly for late April, but the rate increase was ridiculous at nearly a $300 jump. While we could have stayed one more night, it would have been more than a room at Hotel Galvez, so we decided not to extend. All in all, the hotel stay was decent. I usually stay with friends or family when I'm on the island, so this was actually my first hotel stay in Galveston in a very long time, and I would absolutely stay here again.

1 * - Safety Nightmare & Unacceptable Service Where do I…read moreeven begin. As Hilton Diamond members, we expected a baseline level of safety and professionalism. We received neither. We hadn't even made it through both sets of lobby doors before an aggressive pit bull on a leash came lunging at our dog. The lobby was packed and chaotic, so we made the reasonable decision to leave and return when things settled down. After reflection, we decided it was safer to simply switch hotels altogether and avoid another encounter with that dog. When we called Hilton directly to request a reservation transfer to another property for our pets' safety, we were denied. So we returned to the hotel to speak with the front desk. The agent we encountered was one of the rudest hotel employees I have ever experienced in years of travel. She told us she couldn't cancel the reservation, that a manager wouldn't be available until the next day, and that because she hadn't witnessed the incident and , there was nothing she could do. When I asked her to review the security camera footage, she stonewalled us. After significant back and forth, she finally admitted she could cancel but was worried about getting in trouble. I offered to take full responsibility. She processed the cancellation begrudgingly, with zero grace. And then I truly cannot make this up the moment we walked out the front door, a small dog came flying at us out of the dark leash in tow and bit our dog. My fiancé had to grab that dogs leash and pull the dog away until the owner retrieved it. Two dog attacks in one visit. One deeply unpleasant staff interaction. Zero accountability from Hilton. We will not be returning. Pet-friendly does not mean unsafe-for-pets.
