I have had a lot of dealings with BRHS over the years. Most importantly, I adopted two cats from…read morethem. The process was smooth and took just a few minutes. The cats were healthy, had been chipped, and we're up to date on their shots. Nine years later, my girls are still going strong! I have volunteered there as well. Their Kibble Crew works very hard to bag hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food to give away to the community. I can't imagine how much food has been given out. The shelter is always clean. The staff there is knowledgeable and their top priority is the animals. I recommend them every chance I get.

It's smaller than most shelters but that seems to lend itself to less stress & more attention to the animals. They have an adult cat room that is filled with plush beds and outdoor access. On the wall there are magnetic pics of who is for adoption with a professional picture & their name. There is a separate kitten room where the antics are captivating. Dogs are separated far enough away from cats to minimize any anxiety. The staff is very friendly and helpful, willing to give any info they can on a particular animal. I highly recommend this Humane Society if you are looking for a fur-ever companion. They also have a thrift store you can donate and buy an array of great finds from. The store is located in city of Hendersonville

She calms my son on the spectrum and sleeps with him at night. She has awakened the empath in me and increased my drive/motivation. She helps me get out of bed, enjoy sunshine, and has brought so much love and laughter! And here I thought I was going to give to her/rescue her... What an absolute blessing! Back on Dec. 23, 2025. I made a Donation of 50.00 (Receipt # ON002081) in memory of a friend's…read morepet. I asked that notice be sent to my friends. That never happened. I ended up telling my friend about it, he called Foothills to check on it, spoke with someone who was suppose to call him back, that never happened either. Since this time, I had made 2 different donations to Spartanburg Animal Shelter,(in memory of.....) and those people received notice within a week. In future I will be making contributions to Spartanburg, not Tryon.

This organization is completely backwards in regulating adoptions. My dog that had been lost for…read moreover a year showed up on their website, and I was completely ecstatic. I thought it was a miracle. When I contacted them they informed me that the dog was already adopted and they gave me some big story to guilt me into not pursuing the matter further. However we made an agreement that I would get my dog if this adoption fell through (I prayed that it would). The adoption did fall through but the organization went ahead and adopted my dog to another family. When I pursued the matter they told me the previous adopter was a horrible fit but this one was much better giving me another sob story to sway my persistence but I would not budge this time because this was my dog and I knew that he would be best in my care. The organization refused to give me my dog back stating that the dog was now the property of the animal shelter and that I had no rights over the dog. It amazes me that with all the animals that need a home this organization went through so much effort to place this dog when it already had a home to go to and a more than willing owner to take responsibility of him. I was treated with complete disrespect by Patricia Beam who I suppose is the head adoption coordinator. She refused to give me any information or contact information for the board member that was apparently making the executive decisions on my case. When my mother kept pressing her for his name and information she was told that the information had to go through her and then she hung up the phone abruptly. I can't believe the treatment we have received from this organization and I cannot believe that my dog has been forever taken away from me because of sheer incompetence and lack of professionalism. I pray that my dog is with a good family; although, I know he belongs with me. This organization will never receive another donation from my friends and family.

Playground review: it's a super nice space and is designed for ages 2-12. There's a ton of different equipment for all abilities. However frustrating when older/larger kids are wreaking havoc and abusing the equipment while moms are talking with their backs turned away from the playground. Don't be those moms.

I always see a lot of volunteers working to keep the rescue in good shape and clean. Finding our dogs was like finding family and their process is very good. It's a bit of a drive if you are coming from Charlotte, but it's worth it. These people care so much for these animals and we could see it the whole time we were there.
