I had a winter bridesmaids dress that was purchased online. We didn't realize how heavy the dress was and because of that it wasn't very flattering to the figure. I had gained and lost some weight so I got a larger size and the way it fit was just not working plus the layers of fabric made me sweat I went to this seamstress after seeing the reviews online. I worked with Rosa. There was a little bit of a language barrier, and I wouldn't say she's the most jovial person b/c of the communication barrier, but she is extremely skilled at what she does so I was able to explain what I needed done, and she worked wonders. She removed layers of fabric making it lighter, but also more breathable. With one fitting she tailored it perfectly to my body. I almost couldn't believe it. I ended up taking it home and then realizing that I needed a little more security around the bust area. I brought it back, she did it and didn't charge me. She also adjusted the slit because it was a little too high for me. Overall, I would absolutely recommend going here. She's professional and extremely skilled, and that is what matters most. read more

So happy I found this place! Seamstress was very sweet and professional and was able to alter my Vera Wang wedding dress from size 6 to size 2. It is a flawless fit now. It was a Difficult job because of Corset details and intricate delicate lace but she did magnificent job at very fair price and dress was ready in just 1.5 week. As for my first time bringing anything to be altered, it was a pleasant experience here at AVEY Tailoring. It is a little hard to look for the place since there isn't any signage that says AVEY. I actually found the place just with the address and the sign they had outside that says, "tailoring." Upon entering, I was greeted by Rosa. I had to get my suit jacket altered. I didn't know what to expect and didn't know how anything worked. She explained everything I needed to know, especially the tailoring lingo. I only had the jacket altered so it wasn't expensive, it only costed me $45. Once it was pinned, I got a preview of how it's going to look like. Upon picking up my suit, tried it on, and it was exactly what I wanted to be done. Great job on the tailoring, couldn't even tell it was altered. read more

I looked this place up, to get a number of jackets and pants adjusted. They were able to have everything ready very quickly and had promised it on Sunday, New years eve! I was thrilled and picked up the stuff on Sunday as promised. The work was fantastic and any minor adjustments were done on the spot. The prices were also very reasonable. The only negative, was that they were supposed to be open at 11 on Sunday, and they opened late, about 1PM.. Freaked me out a bit, about not having my stuff in time, but all worked out. Cannot rave enough about this place! These guys are just amazing at what they do, and with every visit they exceed my expectations. Went to them twice to get dresses adjusted for weddings and i was beyond pleased to what they were able to do. They completely transformed dresses both times to adjust to my body to where they looked like they were just custom made for me!! 1 word - PHENOMENAL. I blindly took 3 identical tops and 1 pair of jeans for alterations. The tops needed to be taken in and the jeans hemmed. The lady was very friendly, even though I don't speak Russian (nor am I Russian), which is more than can be said about most independent businesses in this neighborhood. She was quick and efficient and my items were ready the next day. She did an excellent job on all 4 pieces of clothing, and to my astonishment all 3 tops came out perfect despite her only marking one of them on me. I can't say much about price as I've never really had to get anything altered before, but I thought the price for the jeans was reasonable, maybe a bit on the high end for the shirts. I was searching for someplace close in the new neighborhood to take a pair of uniform pants to get tailored, and low and behold AVEY popped up. The woman there did an excellent job on the pants! She totally changed the look of drab airline uniform pants into a modern, slim silhouette. Thanks to her I'll now feel like a million bucks walking up and down the aisles on my flights. Amazing place. I first tried to take my pants to a popularly reviewed tailor also in sheepshead bay, but they could not/would not do anything for them. I was quite upset because I had purchased a great used suit on ebay which was just perfect on me, save for the pant legs being way too wide. I thought I would have to send the thing back, but fortunately was able to find this place. As soon as I came in I was greeted by Maya in a very warm and friendly manner. She had me try on the pants, pinned them, and went over the alterations needed. The whole process was done in less than 10 minutes! Very painless, as was the price. By the end of the week they were done and looked like a modern pair of suit pants just the way I wanted. I highly recommend BRM alterations not only because of the great atmosphere but because they have the skill to complete alterations that other places won't touch. read more
