Spent a day in Athens while on a roadtrip recently and as always, I have to check out a local…read morerecord shop. Low Yo Yo is a brief walk away from the historic 40 Watt Club and near plenty of dining and drinking choices. While a relatively small store, it's packed wall to wall with a lot of records! I was particularly impressed by the great selection of catalogue titles they have--I always have a running list of records I'm looking for and often these are not present in my local shops. Many, if not most, of what I looked for WAS present here. Often a new title, shrinkwrapped and priced accordingly--but fairly/within market range. They did have some original pressings and used items, but overall their used items seem to be vastly outranked by their new items. However, I can't quite be sure of that as beyond the row of newly arrived used items all others are filed with their new counterparts. I like the overall organization of this store--by genre, by artist, and often within an artist's section all of the solo and sideprojects of a group are present and accounted for. There's also a pretty sweet local artists section (including REM) near the register. Friendly service, cool shop, would definitely make this a regular stop if I lived in the area.

It's as big as a small department store and carries sweaters, jackets, shirts, pants, hats and more, all in the famous red and black of the University of Georgia. Sadly, only ONE postcard. I wanted something "in your face" to send to some of my Florida Gator buddies but all they had was an oversize postcard of the famous USA Arch. Oh, well. Prices looked to be retail or higher. I placed an order on November 30th. I have called and talked to a Follett representative as well as…read moresending e-mails telling them that I needed the order to ship to SC by December 15. This afternoon I received an e-mail stating that my order is cancelled. It's a good thing that I ordered y brother-in-laws's birthday present from Amazon just in case my UGA order was cancelled. We are GA Alums and will not order online again. Follett needs to take lessons from Amazon!! I wish we lived close to Athens so we could just go to the store.

Most B&N stores have a similar layout with a coffee shop in one corner. Good location for finding gifts for bookworms, bibliophiles, lectiophiles, and kids. Easy to find on the corner of a strip mall next to a busy Athens thoroughfare. Lots of free parking in the adjacent lot.

I understand that sometimes you are busy at the store, but if your employer had an accurate online inventory of what you have in stock, I wouldn't need to call you for availability. I am the customer; I'm just trying to buy something and not bothering you during the day. Take it out on the real problem, not me. I have also had bad experiences in person, where reps are having conversations with other co-workers and completely ignore me as the customer while I am standing in the front of the line. This place is a hit or a miss with customer service.

I definitely agree with what people have been saying--this place is a dusty, haphazard place to…read morelook for comics. But that's where I think it shines: browsing. Due to the haphazard nature of organization, it might not be the place for someone just coming here to check stuff out, but if you have no idea what you want, and you're just shuffling through things, then you may like this place. I, like many others, enjoy checking out comic book stores in other cities and states. Frankly, I live in a city with a bunch of great comic book shops, so I'm not hurting for quality or variety in terms of what I read. Also, I'm more of a graphic novel person, and I like to collect interesting graphic novels I find in places to the point where I have a pretty legitimate collection, of which I've probably only read about half. Whoops. I saw a couple of things that tickled my fancy, but they weren't priced, but I don't like interacting with people so I didn't feel like asking what the pricing would have been for them. Needless to say, I left without anything, but I would come back and randomly browse if I'm in the area again and had some time to kill.
