What an awesome little game store. The dice goblin in me was ravenous here! Plus I was able to pick up various items for my D&D game. I saw three different Labyrinth games I wanted to get, so I'll definitely be back. Just floor to ceiling of unique and interesting games. When it comes to tabletop games and TCGs within Athens then Tyche's probably going to be your go to. I've yet to see any gaming stores in this area supplying niche games like the ones found here. While they probably don't have every game you could think of, the owner is very open to help you in finding or figuring out what you're searching for. The remnants of a past where the store was a little more geared toward anime is still present in the wall scrolls and t-shirts that line the upper wall space. It was great to see they were still around since this was a store me and some friends had occasionally visited in the past while searching for cheap manga or anime paraphernalia. I believe they also host Magic games (some days) and a board game day, but you'll have to confirm on their website or ask the owner for the exact days. The space is cramped and what you'd expect of a game/comic shop. A bit crowded with a collection of games, tabletop figures, roleplaying books/guides, and card sleeves spilling out a case into a pool upon the floor. The place is largely very good. They have cheap priced and can find items for you. However, some items are very delayed. That may be due to Covid or not but I was not informed either way. It does not affect my review. The only downsides are it is very unorganized as well as info not being updated. The hours on Facebook and the website are still wrong. The shop had a reasonable selection of games on the walls, stacked up near 12 ft high. The store was very cluttered and had an odd smell to it, kinda like a home for the elderly. The owner was very friendly and wanted to engage with every customer who came in which was nice, if a little overbearing if you're like me and want to do your own thing. This store only sells non-electronic games. If you play Tabletop Role-Playing Games, Tyche's is probably the best place to find source books without looking online. The selection of board games is hit or miss, but vast. Sean is a likable owner and because of his attentiveness whenever I entered the store, I was willing to shell out a few extra bucks for board games I could have probably found for less online. I was in town just for a couple of days and wanted a backgammon board to leave with my son. I was so happy when I found Tyches games! The gentleman on the phone gave me directions and was so kind when I arrived. He showed me the different boards he had and was super helpful! Tyche's is the solid gold definition of a "FLGS - Friendly Local Game Store". FRIENDLY: The owner is nice, helpful, not at all pushy, and is a font of information about gaming. LOCAL: Tyche's supports the local gaming community with space and time to play. Every time I go in people are playing games. GAMES: There are no comic books or overpriced Warhammer miniatures taking up shelf space in this store. Tyche's has been around for 20 years and is CRAMMED with games from the 1970s to today. It has by far the best selection of RPGs in Georgia. Used RPG's, obscure RPG's, RPG's you never heard of, all are here, along with the full complement of the most popular systems, and a healthy dose of miniatures, dice, and accessories. It has easy parking and is right next to UGA. It is small in size but packed to the rafters with stuff, so finding obscure items can take some time. But even searching through the piles is fun for an older gamer like myself. This is one of those places I spend more money to buy it from a store than get it from Amazon, because of the value the store brings to the local gaming community by simply existing. read more
