Material: In fencing, most contractors use Redwood Common, that has slightly shorter life due to knots and yellowish color. Tony and I agreed to use Redwood Heart that has no knots and reddish in tone. It is more sturdy and looks better. Though Heart Redwood adds $4 per linear feet. [Lesson: always get all quotes for Redwood Common and get total linear feet. No quote by count of sections! Use linear feet quote to compare vendors.] 3. Past performance: Tony Garcia had good references, and all look genuine. Now my work is all done, I give 5+ to this gentleman. [Lesson: read old references, especially negative: this is where things show up. Be careful about long and similar sounding references.] 4. Paper trail: [Lesson: I run away from digital quotes, they evaporate like dew!]. Tony gave quote and then 6 years warranty on paper. He gracefully accepted our personal checks. [Lesson: I shy away from digital payments like Zelle due to lack of paper trail.] 5. Linear feet measurement: Mr. Tony Garcia is half-owner with his beloved father. He was accurate in all things, very first time, without asking or needing verifications. [Lesson: one company gave 120% length! And refused to come and correct it. I would have paid 20% more without knowing, if I was not diligent in comparative shopping.]. Tony was on the job with his team of 5 associates, they all spoke great or even better English than me! They knew Spanish, I knew 36 computer languages but not Spanish! 6. Sturdiness and stability: Most quotes are for 8 feet pressure treated posts and 2 feet deep. I paid extra for 10 feet pressure treated posts (adds $12 per post for extra length and 32-inch depth and concrete and labor). My fence is exposed to very high winds. And Tony team did humanly possible best job. 7. Additional findings: I discovered two more post needing replacement. It was done at similar good material and costs. Overall: Best person, I discovered by diligence. Kindly use my experience. [Now laugh time: It is not a paid reference! As I suspect 20% companies merely market vendors!]. I chose S&J and within a few days, I had a date for installation of my fence (with 3 different heights) and two gates. This was all going to be done in one day (and it was a blistering hot day too!). The crew arrived on time and immediately began work on demolishing the old fence and then digging posts and construction of the new fence. It took all day, but by 5pm they were finished! The finished work was very good, they did not seem to cut any corners and really took the time to do things right.
