Nominated as one of the most beautiful transit stations in Europe, Toledo is built on multiple layers which the color scheme designed to reflect some part of the city. Mosaics that detail the history on one level, the original Aragonese walls incorporated into the atrium, and even a long LED light installation that reproduces the movement of the waves. Yes, it's still a subway station between Dante (towards Piscinola) and Municipio (towards Garibaldi). It is on Linea 1 of the metro and you'll find automated ticket vending machines and turnstiles in the ticketing concourse. The station is handicapped accessible. Rainbow Limos was highly recommended by a friend and prices seemed quite comparable to other private transport. They picked us up at the Naples train station and drove us to Positano with a stop for a prearranged private tour (that they set up) of Pompeii, then at the end of our stay picked us up at our hotel and took us to Naples airport. If you have the budget I would highly recommend the guided Pompeii tour - I think we got a lot more out of it than if we had been wandering around on our own. They were efficient in communication ahead of time, very clear on details and prices via email, on time/ahead of time for pick ups, and we felt very safe with them. They were extremely kind when our train from Rome was delayed and helped make sure our private Pompeii tour could still happen. Would absolutely use them again!

The car ride was from Naples to Pompeii and back. The price was very reasonable. This is not really a taxi, but a private car service. The vehicle we were in was a nice 6 or 7 seat Mercedes van. The driver was really a good guy and pointed out things as we went. He was early at our return pickup, which was very nice, as a lot of things have not been running on time for us. :-) The car service takes care of all of the Bay of Naples area and can arrange tours for you as well. The port in Naples is one of the easiest ports for embarkation and disembarkation. The views of Naples and Mount Vesuvius are stunning. So lucky to have a beautiful sunny day to enjoy the scenery. As far as the disembarkation, literally grab your sea pass, get scanned and then walk off the boat. We used shoreexcursions.com to book a tour from Naples to Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii with Connie, Guiseppe and Francesco from World Tours. So easy to meet them on the dock. It was a wonderful day. Back at the port, we just walked through security and we were back on the boat. So easy!

We were coming from Rome, so the security check point went very smoothly. We never went upstairs to the shops. We were on ground level the entire time. It was nice that the ship crew offered icy cool towels and water prior to boarding. It was refreshing after a long day of touring the city. We arrived back at the ship an hour before debarkation time to dodge the last minute rush of passengers. The scenery when cruising into and out of the port is amazing. We woke up to the vision of Mt. Vesuvius with a beautiful sunrise. It was just as beautiful on the way out with views of the island of Capri. We even had great views of Corsica and Sardinia the very next day when cruising between the islands on the way to Barcelona. It was a lovely experience.

There are many different ways to travel between Naples airport and Napoli Centrale train station…read more Instead of taxi or Uber, I chose to take the dedicated bus. It's a proper full size city bus and it runs on schedule. I was able to follow the very good signage in the airport and then the marked walking route to the bus stop. On boarding, the drive accepted €5 for the fare using my card as he did not have enough change to break the €50 I got from the airport ATM. There are seats and luggage storage but the bus was full enough that I was standing at the back with my rollaboard. Ten or so minutes later, the bus made its one and only stop outside the train station. Super easy, super convenience. I'm not sure if there's still a discount for purchasing online as Lissa mentions in her 2015 review. As I won't be using the bus for the return, I didn't check. Very easy to manage bus system to and from the Naples International Airport and the central train…read morestation. Tickets are 3€ if purchased before getting on the bus and 4€ onboard. In the Central Train Station, you can buy a ticket at any newspaper or convenience store if you ask the cashier for an Alibus ticket. (In the airport, I imagine it would be the same but I don't know for sure). However, the extra euro probably won't kill you! It's also significantly cheaper than taking a taxi! The busses pick up and drop off on the "end of the square," which was covered in construction for us, so we couldn't see it from the train station. Just keep walking, you can't miss the 10 busses waiting to pick people up. (City busses, not the kind that you store your luggage underneath) The Alibus was labeled like any other bus route, and you had to hold your luggage with you-- possibly standing for the whole ride. No worries, it's only about 15 minutes. They drop off within comfortable walking distance to the airport, but you do have to drag your luggage for a good 5 minutes outside. Very easy system. Not first class quality but great for the price!

As you walk in there are a few ticket machines from which you can purchase tickets by card or coins, and a cafe selling coffee, drinks and snacks. Head upstairs where there's an entry to both the metro and funicular here. Check that you're headed in the right direction, the ticket scanners at the turnstiles only work for the correct ticket so you'll know if you went the wrong way. There were staff checking tickets as well. There's a waiting area for the departures on bottom and top of the hill, for safety reason you can't wait on the steps where the cars ascend and descend. Compared to other funiculars, this one is more of a modern bus on a hill rather than the more trolley-like contraptions I'm used to seeing. It's pretty wide, seating 4 people across the width of the car, with a walkway between the seats, and plenty of standing room. Also there are multiple levels within each funicular car, so you can walk up/down the stair steps, which felt like a novel concept given my previous experience with narrower cars. As of April 2026, the the schedule for departure is every 10 minutes between 7am-10pm.
