Wow I have gone to this Avis multiple times and multiple others, by far this is the best Avis in the country. Austin is such a great guy and will always keep his customer satisfied. Lariza is also great any time I've had a problem they both have gone over and above what I expected to make things right. They both deserve a raise because they now have a lifelong customer. Another dis-satisfied customer reporting in. I booked in advance on line for a Thursday pick up with rental beginning at 11am and ending on Saturday at 11am. When I appeared at noon on Thursday to pick up my car I was told by Jeff that because I did not come in on the 11am Alaskan airlines flight from Alaska that my car was given away. I had in fact, arrived on Tuesday from Los Angeles so this had NOTHING to do with their "misunderstanding." They certainly didn't text to find out my plans or give me any warning that my car was being used for another customer. This lack of car was particularly stressful as I had a 3pm wedding to attend in Stanley the same day. After a 30 minute wait I was finally introduced to the dirty car I was provided in lieu of the original car I had reserved. After a very cursory "read this initial this" explanation of the contract during which I accepted all additional insurance fees, I left the airport focused only on getting to the wedding. In our rushed "review" of the contract I read the words "$15.99 for fuel fees" and believed this was the fee I would pay if I chose not to refuel myself. It was only upon receiving my credit card bill that I realized that in addition to the $151.73 + $69.98 insurance fee I was also charged $9.99 per gallon for the fuel I used for the trip to Stanley. This added an additional $73.92 to my bill. I still have my original copy of the contract and in the fine print is says "000-074MlS equals a $15.99 flat rate fee . 075MIS and above equals 9.990 per Gal." I truly had no idea that the numbers referred to MILES and I unnecessarily agreed to purchase gas at TRIPLE the cost of gas at the pumps that day which was $3.37. Had my car been ready as expected there would have been ample time to understand what I was initialling and I could have avoided this fee. read more

The experience was initially a good one- We landed at the airport at night and picked up a VW Jetta which was sufficient to drive in local snow conditions. A good car for the week before Christmas in Ketchum. Unfortunately the Jetta had some kind of coolant leak, and after driving the 15 miles from the airport the tank was completely empty and lights and alarms were sounding- not ideal but incidents happen. However the manual said the car must be stopped immediately and not driven. We contacted Avis and- on their advice, Roadside Assistance. It was almost impossible to get through to Roadside Assistance and after repeated efforts, Avis needed to do it for us. The plan was to tow the Jetta away and replace it with a working car. This took until mid afternoon and I needed to spend several hours waiting at home for the switch to be made. I lost a day of family time- not ideal but necessary. PROBLEMS: The new car, a Ford Fusion, had all weather tires NOT SNOW TIRES- and both by my estimation as well as the man who delivered it, it was not safely drivable in the snow. Comparing tires side to side there was a clear difference between the treads on the Jetta and the Fusion. I tested the replacement car out several times. It could not make it up the local hills and every time I started it from a full stop it fishtailed menacingly. I called Avis and was told I was so lucky to get their last car. We spent time talking about how it was not safe to drive it and they promised to put me "on top of the list" if a new car came in. They also kept telling me there was nothing wrong with the Fusion and " no one had ever complained" A safe and drivable car was never found and my family ended up using Uber for the remainder of the vacation ( 4 days) for our transportation needs. The Fusion stayed parked in the garage. What makes me the angriest is that when I gave Avis feedback after the rental was turned in their company response was they were " sorry that winter conditions made driving impossible". AGHHHH! There were many, many cars on the road during the week of December 18-26. People did indeed need to drive carefully, but it was possible. HOWEVER the particular car that Avis substituted was not usable safely. While I never asked for a full refund some price adjustment should have been offered- I wasted an entire day of vacation swapping one un-drivable car for another one and despite immediate and repeated phone calls with the Avis agents we never had a usable car. $300+ for less than 60 miles of driving. BTW Lori, the airport agent at Avis was nice and sympathetic but had no authority to solve the problem-. Management higher up had no real interest. This is a partial quote from the response I got from Tag Robinson, the territory performance manager: " I also regret that the winter weather in the Sun Valley/Ketchum/Hailey area complicated local transportation during your visit. Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience you have experienced. You are a valued customer; everything we do is aimed at providing you with an excellent car rental experience. We would like to regain your trust and hope to serve you again in the future." UM- regain my trust how? An actionable? read more

Peter (alleged owner) is a pompous rude little man. Horrible and rude service. He criticized my family member who had a reservation. I tried to diffuse the situation by chuckling and saying "thanks" for accommodating. He replied "whatever" and hung up. Seriously? In a valley filled with plenty of bad service, this is top of the list. read more
