    Dented and scratched up.
    Adam V.

If I could give them a zero stars, I would. They didn't have the car I actually reserved, and gave me a dirty, scratched-up, smelly Cadillac. After driving it for about an hour, we took it back because we had a lot of driving to do and couldn't stand the smell. The woman at the counter was then rude and irritated that I wanted to switch cars. She then said the only thing they had was a Toyota Tacoma -- but didn't tell me it was a small version of it. It was one of the most uncomfortable cars I've ever driven. My back was killing me because the seats didn't adjust properly and it was really cramped. After I dropped it off, I told them I thought it was a piece of junk. The return guy kinda nodded. I'm seriously considering cancelling my Avis Preferred membership given that they can never get me the car I actually order.

Line at RDU Avis at 7 pm ridiculous

After flying all day the last thing I want is a90 minute wait in line for a rental car. This is not a one off either every time I come to Raleigh the wait is ridiculous.

I am a Avis Preferred Plus member. Which means I have been renting from them for years and I rent from them often. I was able to pick up my vehicle from a different location and drop it off here at RDU, since I had a flight leaving from here. I opted to drop it off at 3 AM, meaning an overnight drop off. I took pictures of the vehicle in the lot, and it took many phone calls and a day of waiting to finally get a receipt. When I looked at the receipt, I noticed that they randomly charged me $18 for fuel. Luckily I keep all of my receipts and I take pictures, so they say they are going to remove the charge. my experience is definitely not as bad as some, but I think more people should be aware of this location because Avis is turning a blind eye, or the employees working at this location are lying about what they tell corporate. I write many positive reviews and very seldom do I write anything negative. I expect more. Also, I did reach out to socialinfo@avis.com but I was able to get a phone call sooner. The customer service here is just about the same, but maybe they only answer questions on the weekdays. Unfortunately, because I go here often, and my flights are typically earlier, they are one of the only ones that offer overnight drop off. So I'm kind of stuck. I anticipate that I will experience this again and I'm going to continue to take pictures of before and after.

Filthy car at pick up. Asked for a new car and was just as disgusting.

This is the worst rental we have ever had. Tried two cars and both were equally dirty. Not even a light wipe down, no vacuum, and crumbs & spills. Will never rent from Avis again. Would give no stars if I could. Don't waste your money!

    Dirty

COUPON DOESN'T WORK! COUPON DOESN'T WORK! COUPON DOESN'T WORK! Never trust customer service, they will trick you to rent more with their "offer" but you will pay $135 per day for a very dirty car in the end!!! Be aware of FAKE contracts!!! Totally a scam!

Silver Toyota, boring and uninspired and exactly what I wanted.

I've rented twice from Avis and it's been a pleasant enough experience. Maybe they could run more frequent shuttle buses because waiting in the cold outside when you're returning from a trip to Florida? That's no fun. But the bus ride is short enough and they do stop at the Preferred ranks first so you're on your way swiftly. Both times I've rented here were dropped off elsewhere and that was no problem. The first time, they "upgraded" my intermediate to a full size F-150 crew cab pickup truck. That's a serious pain to park and it took 35 minutes to wait in line to trade it out for something else. The second time, they "upgraded" me to a Dodge Challenger. Uh, too fast and I'm not going to drive a bright yellow "pull me over" car the 170 miles to Charlotte. That one did not take as long to trade out. The young lady at the gate (same one, both times) was pleasant and offered a map. I was on my way. Cars were clean, reasonably well maintained and drove well. I'll rent from Avis again. [Review 12992 overall, 309 of 2020.]

I signed up for Avis preferred so I was able to skip the counter and go straight to my rental vehicle After checking in. the car was clean with a full tank. When it came time to returning the car, super easy someone was there to scan me in an email me my receipt and I was on my way. Definitely one of the easiest pick up and drop off experiences. I've had in a very long time.

I've been an Alamo Insider member for many years, a membership that usually provides me the ultimate convenience upon landing--walking straight to my assigned car and heading out on my trip with zero friction, and I reserve my vehicle ahead of time using the Alamo app. While Alamo typically nails this "easy" experience, my recent stop at the Raleigh-Durham airport didn't quite deliver the "easy" experience I've come to expect. Upon landing, the Alamo app indicated I'd still need to visit the counter for a car assignment. RDU still requires travelers to board a shuttle bus for transportation to the rental car lot, but thankfully, the buses run frequently so we didn't wait long. When we arrived at the lot, I was mildly discouraged to see a line snaking out of the office with only one customer service rep on duty. However, kudos to the on-duty manager for quickly recognizing the queue and offering to process several reservations at the adjacent National desk. The customer service rep who helped me was great at getting our trip back on track -- I had my license, credit card, and reservation number ready-to-go and they didn't try to push any "add-ons" like the collision damage waiver or satellite radio, which I appreciated (but am sure that Alamo's corporate overlords at Enterprise Holdings will be disappointed to read). I was, however, somewhat frustrated they didn't have the full-size hybrid sedan I originally requested, especially since I had a lot of driving to do. (At this point, I'm reminded of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry exclaims in exasperation: "You know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding!") I was initially assigned a Kia K5 from a lower vehicle class, which showed significant wear and tear and several dings upon inspection. When I returned to the office to request a different vehicle, the rep handled it professionally and quickly found a 2026 Toyota Camry hybrid with less than 3,000 miles on the odometer. The rest of the rental went smoothly -- the nearly new Camry performed perfectly and the drop-off process was a breeze. While it wasn't the "straight to the lot and go" experience I usually enjoy, the staff's hustle, politeness, and willingness to fix the vehicle issue was definitely worthy of a 4-star review.

Everything turned out OK. It looks like prices have returned to pre-Covid levels, with a week rental quoted for $272.67 for a Saturday to Saturday rental at RDU via Costco. The nice thing about renting a car through Costco is that they don't require pre-payment resulting in no cancellation fee if plans change (another benefit is automatically free secondary driver). We were able to enter my Fastbreak number, which allowed us to have our car already prepared, letting us skip the possible line. However, because my wife's info was not entered as a secondary driver, I went to the counter to get that added. That's when the counter agent told me that Budget allows automatic secondary drivers if a spouse and that I didn't need to stand in line since my car had already been reserved under by Fast Break number. Looking at other reviews for this place (and confirmed by the agent), lines can be VERY long at this location. In terms of getting to/from the rental location, it's not ideal: taking a dedicated shuttle devoted to Avis/Budget from the baggage claim area of the airport. You have to know that Avis and Budget are the same company, since once an Avis branded bus was there. This is old school, showing that each rental agency has to take take care of everything itself. The journey was more than 10 minutes long, so not particularly quick and not walkable. More modern systems will have one large generic shuttle running from the airport to the shared rental center, benefiting all renters. The best being able to take a airport train, which the newest airports have. We ended up getting a Mazda CX-30, which was perfect for the two of us. It was a newer model, with keyless entry and push button ignition. Because it was new, it had Car Play but only through a direct wire (not bluetooth). There was no cigarette lighter charging port, but instead only two USB-C ports (not the typical -A). This meant having to find a store that sold the C to A adapter, to make our navigation work. North Carolina doesn't have that many toll-roads so a transponder was not in the car. Dropping the car off was consistent to what we were expecting, considering how we had picked it up. You need to follow the signs for Budget, go through multiple tiger teeth barriers, park your car as directed by the attendant, and then wait under the hot sun until it's your turn. This took a while, and no receipt was given at this location. One was emailed to me soon after, but found out that the charge was about twenty more than the quoted price, with no explanation why. Will need to follow up on that, contacting Costco Travel first (one small disadvantage of not prepaying first).

The overall experience is why I won't be going back. This is also the Advantage Car Rental office, so my review applies to them as well. First: The shuttle bus took a half hour or more to come and pick me and another customer up. There were at least 2 or 3 each of the competitors shuttles coming by in that same time frame. The shuttle driver did not help the customer's with their bags. Never saw that before. He was more interested in talking to a pretty young coed he was dropping off than helping the other customers. Then: There was one clerk in the office. I came in with 4 other customers, and easily waited 30 minutes to get my car. He was thorough and polite, but alone and overwhelmed. Shame on you management. Thirdly: I checked the car out before I drove it off the lot, but it was a black car in a poorly lit lot, and was not sure the real condition of the car until the next morning. Luckily there was no external or internal damage to the car. The car proved to be OK, although there was a lot of tire noise at medium speeds. Sounded like a bad tire to me. Lastly: I was returning the car very early on my last day in Durham, 545am. I pulled onto the lot, the office was lit up and unlocked, but nobody was home. I walked around the building, knocked on the office door, called out, etc.. No answer. Finally a different shuttle driver than my first experience showed up, checked out my car, loaded my bag, apologized for no clerks, and drove me to the terminal. He later even emailed my receipt, as there wasn't anyone to give me one at the lot. The whole experience - a major fail by this provider, in my opinion. It was not worth the few dollars saved.
