RDU Raleigh NC. WORST SERVICE AT HERTZ.
    Ali F.

The drivers do not give a damn. I was at the curb and waving and he had just pulled off but no there was no stopping. Crap service every time I have been at RDU. unfortunately hertz is the company rental company. If you can NEVER RENT HERTZ AT RDU.

The wait outside due to understaffing

Do not rent from here period. They under staff this place like crazy. Like 3 people working at checkout on a Sat resulting in a 90 min wait and a line snaking outside the door by about 30 people. This is a sunny day business as usual. Switching to National. Paying more is worth it. Staff has all been lovely though. I feel bad for them.

Two nails in driver rear tire.
    Michele D.

The car I received had not one but two worn down nails in the rear drivers side tire (indicating they had been there for a while). Hertz roadside assistance said they noted it but would not help me. I picked up the car in a very dark lot at night so I did see the nails until the next morning. I reported it to Hertz roadside assistance immediately. Hertz roadside assistance also indicated that they recommend that I spend my vacation looking for and buying a new tire because now that they know the nails are there, they are going to bill me for it when I return the car. Run, don't walk, to Enterprise or Sixt. Note that Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty are all the same company, ie same terrible maintenance and terrible customer service. The maintenance stated the car needed an oil change also popped on and Hertz roadside assistance said "that's unfortunate." Hertz Corporate told me to see the manager at RDU Hertz for a refund for the tire I purchased for Hertz and as you can guess, the manager Danni said I can't help you, go see Hertz Corporate. Enterprise and Sixt is at RDU as well.

Earlier this morning on Sunday, 5/11 around 9am, I was checked-in for my pre-paid reservation at Hertz RDU airport by one of the most condescending, and belittling employees that I have ever encountered. Kerry checked me in for my 3 day car rental, and I was expecting for it to be a smooth process since I had already paid online. The process was already making me uncomfortable when Kerry had asked me "why are you in town?" in an extremely interrogative manner. Frankly, this is none of her business. The interaction only got worse from there. As soon as Kerry saw my license (I'm admittedly on the younger side, 22), she scoffed and began pushing the coverage plans onto me, asking me why I wouldn't want to add on the extra plans. I explained that I didn't need it, and I would happily take the risk if it saved me an absurd amount of extra money that I was not comfortable spending. Kerry proceeded to finalize my checkout by handing me a receipt with a $75 balance on it ($25/day). Since I am under the age of 25, I would normally be subject to an "underage fee" of $25/day when renting a vehicle in the state of North Carolina (among other states as well). I was aware of this prior to making my reservation. However, since AAA is partnered with Hertz, they deem me eligible to have the $75 underage fee waived so long as I make the reservation through the AAA website. Not a problem, I had confirmations for everything that I did through AAA via email. However, Kerry decided to make this process way harder than it had to be. Kerry insisted that I made the reservation through Hertz and was not eligible for the underage waiver. Clearly there was some weird ageist reason as to why she felt I was required to pay the fee. I asked her to please take a look at the reservation on my phone, and she proceeded to scoff again and call over a manager. I unfortunately didn't get this manager's name, but she was incredibly accommodating and kind. Kerry explained the situation to the manager and claimed that I was "refusing to pay the fee," which was already infuriating me because of her unprofessional and untruthful manner. The manager resolved the situation and Kerry gave me the receipt with the $0 balance on it. I kindly told her to have a nice day with a smile. Kerry proceeded to ignore me and call up the next customer. Kerry's ageist and condescending attitude was truly an abysmal way to start my trip visiting my family. I'm not only disappointed in this experience, but shocked that I would experience something this rude from the state of North Carolina. I come from New York where these attitudes are unfortunately normalized, but I guess Kerry proved that it doesn't really matter where you are, there are rude people wherever you go. Please regard this as my formal complaint to Hertz about this one specific employee. I work in customer service myself, and I wouldn't dream of acting this way towards an innocent 22 year old woman. This is unacceptable. On a positive note, the car runs beautifully and the prices are very fair.

Customers stranded at 1:00 am with no car.
    Wil G.

Horrible customer service. The staff left several customers including myself stranded the Friday of the 4th of July weekend 2021. After arriving at Raleigh International late due to flight delays we went to the pickup location like the 40+ other customers. They came with a small shuttle so it filled very quickly but the driver assured us they would be back. After 20 min and no shuttle we had to make our way to hertz on our own so we took the Avis shuttle and walked from Avis to Hertz. Surprisingly there was NO ONE there. They were closed and all of the customers were left to find other transportation accommodations. This alone was disappointing and frustrating but the next morning I went back only to be completely blown off and told my rental was not valid anymore by Brad the site manager who would not provide anymore then his name. Now I have to call corporate and try to get a refund for my PREPAID rental. . Not what I want to do during my holiday weekend. I will NEVER work with this Hertz again and seriously question Hertz overall. **Update 7/22 - after HOURS of time on hold and follow ups I was refunded my rental payment but there was absolutely no compensation for the time spent making alternate accommodations and no way to give feedback re the manager with a horrible attitude.** This was a very painful experience. Thanks Hurts #AVOIDHURTZATALLCOSTS

If I could give this a ZERO rating I would. I am extremely disappointed, disheartened and dissatisfied with what took place on Friday May 10th 2024 at the HERTZ rental car at Raleigh Durham International airport at 9:15-9:30am. I stood and witness how the representative took straight advantage of my sister who had flown over 3000 miles from the West Coast to the East Coast to attend her daughter's college graduation and needed to pick up her rental car which was already "PAID FOR IN ADVANCE". I needed to make that part clear before I continued. The rep proceeds to ask her will she needs insurance for the vehicle? She proceeds to tell him NO and advises him that she has her own car insurance and provides the name of the insurance company. Rep - then tells my sister that insurance may or may not be acceptable here. My sister (Customer) proceeds to tell the Hertz rep again that she has her own insurance. As many cars I've rented from Hertz, and many more, I've never ever heard them say that. I've only heard them ask for proof of the insurance policy. Prior to that I watched three customers come up to the counter after my sister and when the same question was asked to them regarding their car insurance, they stated the name and that was it. Nothing more/nothing less. The Hertz rep purposely never accepted my sister's car insurance and added their insurance to make sure they met their quote for the day. Which had my sister paying way more than expected when she got off the plane. Which was $244.68. Loss Dmg Wvr - $34.99 = $139.96 LIS - $16.19 = $64.76 Prem Road Serv - $9.99 = $39.96 TOTAL: 244.68 Yes, she knew she had to pay for the extra day. However, you purposely did not accept her car insurance which was PROGRESSIVE I may add and charge her an additional $244.68 for coverage on a vehicle and she kept telling you that she had her own insurance which you did not do this to no one else who walked up to the counter to pick up their cars that they had reservations for. You swiped her credit card for $644.68 when she kept telling you that she had her own insurance, and it made her card decline. HERTZ rental car was wrong as two left shoes when she told you from the start that she had her own insurance, you should have accepted it like you did everyone else's who came to the counter after her which had her to call her bank. Then some other lady came to the counter and got loud and tried to embarrass my sister and I had to step in and tell them that my sister had her own insurance, and they were never supposed to add insurance to the vehicle. They told my sister that she would've had to bring the car back the next day (basically saying that she would have had to miss her daughter's graduation) and drive all the way back to RDU which was 1 - 1/2 drive for them to take the insurance off the car and the re-process the entire renal all over again which probably would have had her paying more money. I cannot believe you all did this to a first-time renter. I pray that this never happens again. She deserves her money back. I request the manager's attention to see how this matter can be resolved

No complaints! My husband reserved for a mystery vehicle and upon arrival they had a Versa available. We paid additional for this vehicle. Customer service was friendly & facility clean. There are tons of cars to select from. I've never experienced such a large lot and the process of existing the facility. You drive up to a booth, show them them your ID along with the paper work, they scan the information-once completed the gate is lifted for you to exit. This facility is near the airport but you have to take the shuttle from the airport to the facility.

I've been an Alamo Insider member for many years, a membership that usually provides me the ultimate convenience upon landing--walking straight to my assigned car and heading out on my trip with zero friction, and I reserve my vehicle ahead of time using the Alamo app. While Alamo typically nails this "easy" experience, my recent stop at the Raleigh-Durham airport didn't quite deliver the "easy" experience I've come to expect. Upon landing, the Alamo app indicated I'd still need to visit the counter for a car assignment. RDU still requires travelers to board a shuttle bus for transportation to the rental car lot, but thankfully, the buses run frequently so we didn't wait long. When we arrived at the lot, I was mildly discouraged to see a line snaking out of the office with only one customer service rep on duty. However, kudos to the on-duty manager for quickly recognizing the queue and offering to process several reservations at the adjacent National desk. The customer service rep who helped me was great at getting our trip back on track -- I had my license, credit card, and reservation number ready-to-go and they didn't try to push any "add-ons" like the collision damage waiver or satellite radio, which I appreciated (but am sure that Alamo's corporate overlords at Enterprise Holdings will be disappointed to read). I was, however, somewhat frustrated they didn't have the full-size hybrid sedan I originally requested, especially since I had a lot of driving to do. (At this point, I'm reminded of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry exclaims in exasperation: "You know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to hold the reservation. And that's really the most important part of the reservation: the holding!") I was initially assigned a Kia K5 from a lower vehicle class, which showed significant wear and tear and several dings upon inspection. When I returned to the office to request a different vehicle, the rep handled it professionally and quickly found a 2026 Toyota Camry hybrid with less than 3,000 miles on the odometer. The rest of the rental went smoothly -- the nearly new Camry performed perfectly and the drop-off process was a breeze. While it wasn't the "straight to the lot and go" experience I usually enjoy, the staff's hustle, politeness, and willingness to fix the vehicle issue was definitely worthy of a 4-star review.

The overall experience is why I won't be going back. This is also the Advantage Car Rental office, so my review applies to them as well. First: The shuttle bus took a half hour or more to come and pick me and another customer up. There were at least 2 or 3 each of the competitors shuttles coming by in that same time frame. The shuttle driver did not help the customer's with their bags. Never saw that before. He was more interested in talking to a pretty young coed he was dropping off than helping the other customers. Then: There was one clerk in the office. I came in with 4 other customers, and easily waited 30 minutes to get my car. He was thorough and polite, but alone and overwhelmed. Shame on you management. Thirdly: I checked the car out before I drove it off the lot, but it was a black car in a poorly lit lot, and was not sure the real condition of the car until the next morning. Luckily there was no external or internal damage to the car. The car proved to be OK, although there was a lot of tire noise at medium speeds. Sounded like a bad tire to me. Lastly: I was returning the car very early on my last day in Durham, 545am. I pulled onto the lot, the office was lit up and unlocked, but nobody was home. I walked around the building, knocked on the office door, called out, etc.. No answer. Finally a different shuttle driver than my first experience showed up, checked out my car, loaded my bag, apologized for no clerks, and drove me to the terminal. He later even emailed my receipt, as there wasn't anyone to give me one at the lot. The whole experience - a major fail by this provider, in my opinion. It was not worth the few dollars saved. Avoid if possible.
