Worst rental experience of my life!! I usually always go with Avis bc of their nicer fleet but the owner of this location will add every charge possible to your final bill. I was charged a smoking fee for no reason $450 (I don't smoke) , $20 in gas even though I filled up at the closet gas station (tank was not even full when I got it) also a late fee for dropping the car off earlier than I booked the reservation for but this location has the worst hours for an intl airport. Hey guys, I had just arrived after a fourteen-hour bus ride from Mexico, and that's where the magic begins. I had everything planned out including reservations en route to Houston, Texas. Upsi-daisy, the POS machine wouldn't accept my credit card (CC). I was now dead in the water. Then Brian came to the rescue! He was able to get my CC through the system, and I was on my way! The Avis office in Laredo did a good professional job of getting me a car. However, when I arrived in College Station, I noticed the heads of three nails clustered in the left front tire. This obvious hazard made me request that Avis replace the car with a safe one, but the Avis agent there immediately began complaining and making objections, finally telling me to take the car to Discount Tire to see if I could get a free repair on the tire. When I made it clear that that suggestion was both unprofessional and irresponsible, he very grudgingly told me I could talk to Avis Roadside. I called Roadside and after some delay was authorized to turn in the damaged car and pick up an equivalent model from the office that wanted me to get the tire fixed myself. The same agent was there, reinforced by an equally confrontational sidekick, and they rolled out what must have been the sorriest-looking vehicle on their lot. Despite their hostility, I took the substitute vehicle and made it home. I do hope they got the tire fixed on the car I turned in, as the problem seemed to me rather dangerous. Will I do business with Avis again? Not in that airport, anyway. read more

Everything was going great! Got the rental signed, got the keys, then the agent says he does not have time to review the condition of the car he just rented me! I asked about existing damage on the car and he responded "we know whats wrong with it". The agent tells me where the Toyota is and out the door I went. The car was filthy inside, front and back! That looks like urine on the front seat and some sort of candy on the back seat. I informed the agent of the condition and his response was "we cant do anything about that". I will not be renting cars from a company that does not care about supplying clean rental vehicles to it's customers in this time of pandemic. read more

I have rented from this location many times. Only by necessity. This is not your typical Avis location. It has been my summary experience that he cars are high mileage and have numerous dents, scrapes, and dings. The interiors are dirty and stained. The cars are maintained on an exterior, dimly lit parking lot adjacent to the terminal. In the checkout process, you are required to sign attestation as to the condition of the vehicle, sight unseen. The onus is on the client to review the condition of the vehicle before leaving the lot. This is difficult to do at night when the lot is dimly lit and staffed by no one. If it is late at night, the location might close after they hand you the keys. When you drop off the vehicle, no one is there to inspect the vehicle. In my case, there was a chip in the windshield that I did not notice until the next day, which expanded into a crack. I received a collection notice from "Purco" - look it up on line - 2 months later demanding me to pay for a replacement windshield - even after I had reported this to Avis counter personnel upon return. AVIS at the LRD airport. It began when I had to walk by dozens of identical cars all the way to the very last car in the gravel parking lot (space 148 when an identical car was in space 1). No one to receive the car when the airport opened. I used the key return. AVIS website says emailed receipt within 24 hours. I started calling after 56 hours. Their phone staff at AVIS told me 48 hours until any receipts were available - even though it was far longer than that already. I called customer "service" The word is only what they call themselves 'cause service is something not one of 5 clerks could offer. Finally they told me I had to call directly to AVIS in Laredo. There, they never answer the phone, and there is no way to leave a message. Finally after 5 days (3 business days) a lady in Laredo answered the phone and promised to send a receipt within 20 minutes - in 20 minutes I received a "How'd we do?" on-line survey. I certainly let them know how they did! And then after another 6 hours I got the receipt. AVIS used to be "#2-We Try Harder." Now they must be MUCH lower than #2, ' cause they aren't even trying at all. read more

I had a really bad experience with Avis. It started out really good, they had a great special online for a car rental. So I purchased the car rental and came in with a friend and his credit card to help me get the rental. Well they told me there would be an additional $13 per day charge for an additional driver. We didn't have to pay that with enterprise. And you kind of don't have a choice when you are already waiting in line to get your car rental so it's really bad customer service. They also told me that when I came back I could charge it all to one debit card instead of the credit card on file. The manager and the girl checking me out said that. But when I got here to Pay, they said they couldn't do that and that it was already pre-paid and charged. So I won't be renting from them again and I would really discourage anyone from doing the same. A $206 online special came out to $267 with taxes and fees which is totally understandable. But then an additional $95 is ridiculous! read more
