Cherry pie ala mode & cinnamon roll

Wonderful, family run place. Ham steak & eggs with hash browns was great. Highlight was the house made cinnamon rolls (that had to weigh at least a pound) & the cherry pie ala mode.

    Cinnamon roll of joy

The best service, food, menu, mood, people, cinnamon rolls you can get. I discovered the best fishing holes through the comradely of this restaurant, and the incredible baklava.

I'm a Montana native and have been visiting this restaurant since I was a kid. They consistently serve great food with good-sized portions for the price. During this visit I had the veggie scramble with sourdough toast which I enjoyed. I really like that they use real butter on the toast. I also tried some of the ham steak which I highly recommend. It's thick-cut, meaty, and smoky with a little bit of sweetness. Definitely worth a stop on if you are passing through Avon.

A little out of the way place with incredible food.... Ham steak was the best the wife has had in 20 years. Eggs done perfectly, sausage that is to die for!!! Our server was quick and friendly!!

We were visiting my sister in law in Helena, Montana and were spending our vacation out there as well. As our practice, we always support small town businesses and so we're we're looking at some places where we can have the hearty breakfast before heading out to do our hiking. We were initially looking at getting something from the Elliston but we didn't notice that we already passed the town up until we saw the speed limit went back up. So the next town was Avon. You have to keep your eyes peeled when looking for this small place, you won't see it until you passed through it. It's by the highway. We decided to try to place this place. At first glance, it looked nondescript and pretty ordinary but the tomato soup was so amazing and the service is just so awesome. My husband ordered a philly and I ordered hamburger steak instead. The gravy and the mashed potato are awesome. The portion is big that I was so full when we were done. The place is small but not stuffy. This place looks like it's patronized by local although there's also a lot of passing through motorist as well. This is a good place to stop to eat. It's better than big restaurants or cafe places. Love the place and will definitely go back here when we pass again this way. Ambience: 5 stars Service: 5 stars Cleanliness: 5 stars Food: 5 stars Serving portion vs price: pretty reasonable The next couple of days, we went back and I got myself pancakes with bacon and eggs. Best crispy bacon that I ever had. They managed to make it as crisp as I like though the bacon was thick cut. The service is warm and the other patrons are nice.

One biscuit and gravy... a plate full of goodness.

Every once in awhile, you run into a rendition of a favorite meal that immediately becomes the standard by which you will judge all past and future offerings. The Country Fried Steak ( chicken fried steak) here has set the bar for me. Its an 8 ounce, tenderized steak that is hand-breaded and grilled, not fried. Slathered in white gravy with a kiss of hot sauce, it had me in a blissful trance. This beauty is not related to, closely associated with, or even spoken of in the same sentence as the "food service" frozen chicken fried steak offerings you find on most breakfast menus. Why... because it takes time and effort to do one completely scratch. These gals do it, and do it right. Sue, our server and I assume, one of the owners, patiently explained the process when I complemented her on the dish. She glowed with pride. Montana warmth, service, and quality at it's best. 15 miles off I-90 on Rt. 12 and so worth the effort.

Quick word of advice: if you're heading east toward Butte, you'll need to drive through the whole town of Drummond to get back on the interstate. Parker's Restaurant sits conveniently just off the highway and boasts what might be the largest burger menu I've ever seen -- over 100 different options. The interior is eclectic, packed with nostalgic touches like vintage glass Coke bottles and quirky figurines. You can order from printed menus or from the massive chalkboard that runs the length of the restaurant, listing entrees from end to end. Even on a busy late Saturday afternoon, we were greeted promptly and seated right away, though open tables were limited. Our drink order was taken and delivered quickly, and the server was ready for our food order whenever we were. The only downside was the wait time -- about 30 minutes from ordering to the table. I had a tough time choosing, but ultimately went with the Ultimate Patty Melt: two ¼-pound patties, grilled onions, grilled peppers, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing on grilled dark rye. The patties were fresh, thick, and clearly hand-formed in the kitchen. The onions and peppers added great flavor, though I found the Thousand Island a bit lacking. Luckily, their fry sauce was excellent and made a perfect table-side substitute. My buddy ordered the Chili Size, which was massive and also featured two ¼-pound patties. As with any chili dish, the chili itself makes or breaks it -- theirs was solid, loaded with both beans and meat, and you could clearly taste the ground beef in every bite. Overall, Parker's delivers a fun, old-school roadside diner experience with huge portions and plenty of burger variety. Perfect stop if you're cruising through Montana on I-90!

While this restaurant came highly recommended by everyone we asked, I hesitated at first because it wasn't a historic building. It seems most if not all historical restaurants are long gone. Ultimately, we decided to give it a try--and I am so glad we did! We shared the the shepherd's pie and bread pudding for dessert. We hesitated at first with the shepherds pie as it was not the typical recipe, this was made with lamb and topped with colcannon potatoes. I was pleasantly surprised when the kitchen thoughtfully split our plate for us. Because our friends weren't familiar with those potatoes, they settled on the fish instead, ordering the 2-piece and 3-piece cod dinners. They thought the fish was fantastic and the lamb shepherd's pie was absolutely delicious. The bread pudding was excellent too. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and we highly recommend stopping in!

The ambiance was very minimalist, and the dining room was basically empty when we arrived. Again, the food looked better than it tasted. There was nothing objectively wrong with the food, it was just not great if that makes sense. The chicken on the chicken and waffles was crispy, hot, and fresh but the flavor just wasn't there. The breading was good but that is where the flavor stopped. The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and they even used real maple syrup! But again the flavor was just lacking for some reason. We ended up taking half of our food home with us which is NEVER a good sign. I might give this place another shot on a different day. Also, the coleslaw on the chicken sandwich had no flavor which made the sandwich even less impressive. Nothing to see here in my opinion.
