I too have been going here for years. And again please have an open mind. Not only do they have a huge selection, but they have more in the back. They are always helpful and courteous when dealing with customers. Is this place trendy? No. Is this place up to date? No. Is this place the most inviting? No but what they do have is the beat pricing and selection anywhere in the capitol district that I've ever been to. Chefs and professionals - ever had a purveyor miss a shipment or a customer ask for something that was just too hard to find? Call Avon they'll handle it and give you a deal without you having to ask. I once needed 125 airline chicken breasts which are skin on but only the wing bone attached and they handled it inside an hour. This cut is super tedious and not cost effective. When I got there they not only were happy I called but they put it in my truck and charged me less then I would have paid from my normal purveyor. Happened with bone in short ribs too once - they cut them to my size and gave me only the meatiest ones. Service is exceptional! Trust me when i tell you that these folks are the salt of the earth and the last of a dying bread. I read the smoke review and I imagine it was a customer. These guys are not like that and I would put my reputation on it. read more

Went here yesterday for smoked kielbasa which they were kind enough to save for me. However I can't wait to return for that snd the Sage Sausage! OMG I had no real sense of what I was buying but at 4.95 a pound decided to try it. So delicious, a finely ground sausage with a great flavor of sage. They carry lots of White eagle brand. Came here for Fatback as I was making a bunch of Venison Sausage and Bratwurst. I called ahead and they told me that they had it in stock so I took the drive down. When I got there an inexperienced attendant tried to give me Salt Pork but I pushed back and asked to speak with someone else. Sure enough they had the proper Fatback that I needed and sold it to me and it was of a very high quality and my Venison sausage turned out great. I would come back here as they clearly had a lot of great meats and meat products. read more

Immediately the smell of cigarette hits you as you walk in. They have an abundance of options but the authenticity of a meat market is not here. I only come here last minute when I don't want to go all the way to the grocery store! The meat isn't always fresh, many times there's dark spots on the meat. read more

The beauty of Avon Meatland is found on the inside - of your tummy! This is not your new "trendy" butcher-shop where everything has been pre-cut and pre-seasoned and priced right out of reach. This is the old skool neighborhood butcher where the best buys come in bulk and the specialty is in the service and the fact that most customers are known by name and their favorite cut. The guys are all totally awesome to shoot the shit with and they take no offense that I have my "faves" when it comes to cutting my meat! I have been coming here since I can remember, and before that my mom was also a weekly regular. I have introduce so many people to Avon it would be impossible to count and I was really shocked (yet honored) to be the first to review on Yelp. Like I previously mentioned the appearance is that of a neighborhood store it is nothing fancy, I know the guys are diligent in trying to keep everything as clean and organized as it can be. Let's face the facts - I come here for quality food at a bargain price I am not expecting it to be sterile or classy, or else I probably couldn't afford it. For what most restaurants charge for an individual order or two you can get an entire 3-5+lb bag of restaurant quality mozz stix, chicken tenders, nuggets, popcorn chicken, patties, onion rings, poppers, battered mushrooms, and more, plus every kind of french fry/hash brown you can think of. A plethora of frozen veggies, seafood, and stuff I haven't even figured out yet. I am told you can even order fresh lobster! There's industrial size cans of whatever you need a lot of and a spice or seasoning or rub or sauce for everything under the sun. And it's not at jacked up prices either - so you don't break the bank because something new caught your eye. OK I haven't even mentioned the meat yet... Can I say - the absolute best Ribeye you will ever find anywhere? And it's usually the cheapest too! - $4.99/lb? Yes, this is real Prime Rib - and it's remarkable... Granted the prices change up and down but even on the high side I don't think I have ever seen it go above $8.99 for the boneless. I am very loyal to the Ribeye, we have steaks or a roast about once a week. But the sirloin, strips, and t-bones or porterhouses are also right on par, They have a wide assortment of pork, chicken, sausages, bacon, and cases of deli meats and cheeses, and hot dogs and hams and and and - I cannot keep going as this would be the longest review ever. Lets just say if there's ever a chance for you to stop in - I highly suggest you do yourself the favor.
