I've driven past NACs dozens of times, and I'm glad I finally stopped in…read more The first thing I saw upon walking in the door was the full Boar's Head deli counter. And a light shone down from the heavens, and illuminated the Boar's Head cracked peppermill turkey, which is undoubtedly the finest sliced turkey in all the land...except you can't find it within a hundred miles of here. That alone would have me coming back on a regular basis, but NACs also has the rest of the Boar's head selection (salami, hams, cheeses, etc.), and also salads (the mayo-based variety), condiments, bacon, horseradish, as well as tons of other meat (as you may expect from a meat market). They've got lots of sausage, ground beef (in patties, spiked with seasonings, or otherwise), a good selection of chicken in large and small packs, dark and light meat, pork butts and ribs for smoking, as well as steaks and chops. Just a warning: They may not have specialty cuts, as this is not a huge shop, and this is a small town. They didn't have skirt steak (which is what I was hoping for) because they don't sell enough of it, which is understandable. But if you want a steak, they do have NY strips when they aren't sold out, flank steak, rounds, and more. That aside, the folks behind the counter are super nice, and Grandma's Mac Salad is a must. There's way more mayo than I'd have the courage to put in at home, and it's goddamn delicious. My wife and I basically ate a pound of it before we even got home. Get some.

While I've seen Sweet Tree Farm meets in a few places around Upstate NY, I bought their beef short…read moreribs at the Troy Waterfront Farmers Market. The ribs were great! Plenty of meat on them and topped with a nice layer of fat which caramelized nicely; I first seared the short ribs before cooking them in a slow cooker. As stated on its website, Sweet Tree Farm is committed to sustainable farming, does not use growth hormones, nor do they routinely use antibiotics. Their beef is 100% grass-fed and finished. If the quality and flavor of their short ribs are any indication of their other products, they're definitely doing something right!

Husband and I picked up a couple of Sweet Tree Farm's grass fed, humanely raised rib eye steaks at…read morethe Troy Farmers Market... and whooo boy, were they tasty! Yes, they are a tad on the pricey side when compared to the supermarket (about $1/ ounce with tax for the rib eye), but the excellent flavor and clear conscious don't hold a candle to that supermarket stuff. Plus, it's still way cheaper than you'll find at any respectable steakhouse. And who doesn't love supporting a good local business? These folks offer a number of items, including various cuts of steak, beef and pork roasts, ribs, chops, sausage, kebabs, bacon, ground meat and chicken. Don't forget the eggs and maple syrup. Plus, they seem to use as much of the animal as possible, given that they also sell shank and marrow bones, dog bones, heart, tongue, oxtail, liver, and beef and pig fat. I love that. Find the friendly Sweet Tree people selling their goods at the Troy Farmers Market (Saturdays), the Schenectady Farmers Market (Sundays) or pick your order up at the farm by appointment. Awesome stuff here; I can't wait to try more. Rock on, Sweet Tree.

The steaks are outstanding quality. The Lamb Sausage which we grill is a family favorite, especially as an appetizer. The Italian Sausage is great in sauce or grilled. They also make sausage patties in the summer. Their grated cheese is always in our refrigerator. Out of state relatives request the cheese and the Italian Sausage when we visit. Family owned since it was established almost 100 years ago.

What can I say about this place? A LOT. But in the interest of not completely filling up Yelp's…read moredatabase, I'll keep it brief. The first thing that you notice when you walk into Garofalo's is how great it smells: it's like getting hit in the face with a cinder block of glorious fucking awesomeness. It smells THAT good. I love it. I really don't think there's a single thing here that isn't fantastic. I'm especially in love with their smoked ribs. The stuffed pork chops are awesome. They make all sorts of phenomenal sausages. They also sell a variety of other things: various cheeses, meats, spices, canned tomatoes, olive oil and more. The staff at Garofalo's are great as well. They're very friendly. This place is obviously in the best hands. If you're not familiar with the area, it might be a little tricky to find because it's on a weird little road. There really isn't any parking (I normally walk here from my Schenectady office anyway), so the best place is to just park in the lot around the bend behind Perreca's and Cornell's. Garofalo's is well within walking distance from there. Garofalo's accepts credit cards, but there's a minimum amount (which is $15 if I recall correctly). Be warned: If you're going there today for the smoked ribs, you're SOL. I'm pretty sure I bought them out for the day. That's how I roll.

Always great quality and always exactly what I am looking for. Jeff and his family are always willing to help me out when I am looking for something different. Given they get their supplies wholesale, I am not disappointed when they cannot. After all, it is a small town and not everyone cooks and eats what I ask for. We often call ahead for special sized cuts, or if I am looking for a bulk order. If I call early enough in the day I can pick them up by that afternoon. Otherwise, they will be ready by the day and hour they tell you. On the customer side of the counters is a perfect supply of the daily needs... milk, bread, condiments, snacks, some fresh vegetables, and most other general cooking needs. A perfect stop on the way home from work to get those quick-grab-staples. Their pre-prepped meals (chicken cordon bleu, stuffed porkchops, marinated chicken breasts, bbq ribs, etc.) and premade sides (potato salads, mac salads, tortellini salads, etc.) are consistently available and nicely done. Their recipes are well seasoned and ready to eat, but easily adapted in your own kitchen to hit that flavor your mom used to make. From the deli, the Boar's Head deli meats and cheeses are always as expected, but don't miss out on their own baked/roasted meats. They are without a doubt competing against their BH meats. When it is time for a sandwich, their subs are one of the best in the area. My only gripe would be that the rolls they use for the subs are not on the bread rack for me to buy and take home. I will admit though, I have never asked to buy them. Always a great experience. I have added several photos of meals we have prepared using Syron's products.
