I attended this church from about 6 years old until high school. On an average week, I would spend at least 10 to 15 hours a week at this place, including multi-day revivals, Saturday prayer mornings, Wednesday nights, and of course, Sunday mornings, not to mention additional holiday events. My mom and I started attending this church and upon our first visit, we were approached and invited to lunch with an "elder", who began courting my mom and ended up marrying her, against my will. Suffice to say, this man was not a godly man, and the church treated our family like outcasts instead of helping me. I was made fun of by the youth group and called a loner, was ignored, isolated, and humiliated to sit on the front row of this church with my "family", yet we were cordially ignored and avoided, eventually being asked to leave the church. It always confused me, how people who sang about helping others, grace, helping the helpless, chose to turn their backs on me. When I finally had the strength to leave Irving in 2008, I called my so called pastor of this church to seek guidance, support and finally use my voice and share the truth, something that I had not been able to do since 6 years old. No matter how many times I called his office, how many messages I left, I was repeatedly told he was busy, or unavailable. I even reached out to his family, which was of no use. It broke my heart, that a place that boasted they were so full of God's spirit, could reject our family instead of intervening. An entire organization who Saw ME as an embarrassment instead of being an advocate for a defenseless little girl. I can never again take this church seriously as they have put their money where their mouth is and have shown me for over a decade, their true colors. My advice would be hard pass. Like most churches, they will have modern affects. Fresh coffee. Bright, shiny smiles. Even wonderful people who are being unknowingly exploited for free labor AKA serving, however the "warm fuzzy" feeling that coats you as you walk in isn't the holy spirit. It's a song and dance to get you to fund their illusion and kush lifestyle. So incredibly sad that the gaudy, prideful and arrogant people of this church never took the time to see I needed help, that my mom was too worn down and emotionally weak to take care of me and leave the "Elder". We were surrounded a sea of religious leaders who never intended to get their pretty shoes dirty. Thanks for everything, Calvary Church, what a gem! read more

First time here!!! Little change up from my norm. Let's get my church on!! Well I must say that I was totally impressed when I arrived at this church! When you first walk in the lobby of the church is just that! A lobby!! First thing that comes to mind when you say the word "lobby" is possibly a group of people, standing around, talking, interacting, discussing things among one other while possibly having a cup of coffee in hand. Well if you thought that, then that's exactly what it happens when you walk into this church. Now keep in mind I'm a visitor here looking around like what the heck is all this! But then I was soon greeted by 2 members of the church with nothing but excitement on their faces. They could tell I was a guest, and they made me feel at home. While I was standing in the lobby, they were telling me all the good things about the service I was about to encounter. It then all made sense. This lobby area was designed for people to chat about service. To meet and engage in conversations about Godly things, yes, while having a cup of coffee. Tons of my questions that I had went straight out the window. Soon I would need to be seated, as I walked around, I could see nothing but smiles on peoples faces. They had door greeters at every door welcoming people in! And everyone was all smiles. The dress code is "come as you are" From people who are dressed up, to others that are in jeans and a button down. How ever you dress, just come! No judgment. Now there is a huge play land for kids on the "INSIDE" of the church. At first I was like, OMGoodness! But it seems so well organized. You actually check your child in, and then off the parent goes! So finally, you enter and WHOA there is there HUGE stage that is set up like a concert. At first I'm just getting my look on! Like, there's a whole lot going on here and service has not even began. BUT THEN...........This is when it all made sense completely!!! The choir, which I should not even call it a choir came out and gave the best "concert" ever. Now here is why I say "concert" I jammed Jesus Music like never before. This choir "band" gave 110% to getting us an amazing performance which everyone was to their feet and singing and praising Jesus! I was so happy. It was a spirit that came over me that I have never felt while singing gospel music. And they even did a cool song in Spanish which was off the chain!! The thing I really like about this style is that I felt FREE! !! It felt good! Now onto the word! Saint George was in the place. And wow did he deliver the WORD of God. He taught a very cool lesson in today's word. I learned so much! Learned more today than I have in about a year. I was totally alert and engaged in the word today. It was an all around refreshing service. I will be back next Sunday Today all the pastors came out on stage, it was cool to see what each and everyone of them do as far as their part in the church! This church is very much eye awakening for me in so many positive ways. I'm looking forward to attending again and again! If you are looking for new churches, please give this one a chance! They have multiple services (my new fave - now Saturdays at 5:45 pm), Spanish & Nepali speaking services, and also a satellite location in the Arlington area. The childcare/youth programs are excellent, there's a coffee shop/café in the lobby, and it's just a great community to be involved in! Great atmosphere. The Holy Spirit moves freely. The love of Christ is displayed and lived through out not only it's leaders but it's members. Pastor Ben and Pastor J Don George have great biblical knowledge and know how to share it correctly. The children's, student ministry and college/single ministry are truly welcoming and full of discipleship. Although I was familiar with this church and its pastors, I had never visited--aside from attending the funeral of a precious friend there. After returning to Dallas, my wife and I had considered visiting, but had been to several other area churches instead. We decided to visit Calvary (I think it was the Holy Spirit). We tend to look at churches through three lenses: the quality of the worship; the quality of the preaching and teaching; and the quality of the people. On all three counts, we were so very blessed. The worship was heaven-focused and Jesus was clearly the focus. The teaching was Word-focused and clearly designed for discipleship; the people were warm and friendly, but not pushy. We were met with a warm "Welcome Home" when we entered the sanctuary and both my wife and I felt like that may very well have been the case. We'll be back. read more

I am not a member but I did attend a memorial service there 3 years ago. It seemed very nice & the people I knew that were members seemed to be very happy to be members. This last week a family member of mine passed away. She has been an active member there for quite a few years. She was 98 years young. Her daughter requested the chapel for a Monday 11:00 am service and they said NO. I have never heard of a church refusing to allow a service for a member. Churches I have belonged to would always open the doors, the minister would do the service & they would have lunch provided to the family. I will not be attending this church. You might get married there attend the Sunday service, just don't die and expect to get any support. read more

My family attended this church for several years. I am a Hispanic in my 30's and was initially very excited to see the diversity and inclusion at CC. After our first year as regular attenders I noticed that the messages/sermons/series began repeating themselves. At first I thought it was a coincidence and stuck with it. After the completion of our 2nd year it was clear that the sermons were regurgitated and cyclical. CC hosts strategic outreach events (i.e. Easter egg hunts, School supply drives, Single parent Christmas) to bring in the "unchurched". Then they present a calendar of events to get new believers plugged in and actively involved. The problem is that there is no growth here. The leadership rarely discuss anything of any substance. It's literally GRACE and GIVING 24/7. This church is good for new converts and believers who have "backslidden" and want to ease back into the flock. But if you want more meat, more substance, or ANYTHING from the Old Testament (They did ONE series on the OT in the three years we regularly attended) look for another more well-rounded church. Also of note: I'm all for diversity but at CC the lead pastor Ben Daily crosses the line. He's so pre-occupied with super-serving the minority population at CC that he often offends or disenfranchises the white members of the congregation. Examples of him repeatedly stating he "don't do white church" and making other derogatory jabs at white folk - delivered with a chuckle but definitely of a divisive spirit. CC has an urban appeal that is at first refreshing, but my already growing concerns were cemented when one of the front 5 on the praise and worship team wore a Jay-Z concert t-shirt on stage. Sure, I listen to pop music. But there is a time and place to wear such clothing (maybe that's the "White Church" in me talking). Clearly the leadership was trying to be accepting to the average person on the street. But, clearly there is also a discernment issue at CC - just read a few Jay-Z lyrics. It pains me to write this since I met some wonderful people at CC - some with a truly giving spirit and open heart for God. But my family attended long enough to realize that the agenda at CC does not actually seem to be reaching up, in, and out (the CC mantra) but rather just to become the next big Megachurch network. read more
