And all I can say is I can't remember one that kept their word.  When Ward tells you a price or it will be ready,  he stands by his word and gets it done.  My boat needed  a new motor and Ward has a builder who put together a new one at a Great Price. Plus the labor I got charged  was up front and totally fair. The work got done on time and ran like a champ. It's not often (ever?) that you get a good feeling about something like a mechanic right from the get go. However I have to say that before they had even started the work I had taken my watercraft to the right place. I have 2 Supercharged Seadoo RXT's that we exhibiting symptoms of bad wear rings and impeller issues. I couldn't find anyone close to my house out in Spanish Springs that could fit me in before memorial day and of course, the dealers all wanted me to pay out the nose for troubleshooting and everything else. I called Ward and he was able to at least take the skis in and see if he could fit them in. I made the rather long drive from Spanish Springs down to Minden (Johnson Lane actually) and dropped them off. Ward took a look at them and knew exactly what to do. Fortunately he even had an impeller that would work on the Jetskis already in stock so all he had to do was order the wear rings. He let me know it would be a quick and easy job once he had them and that he would do it as quickly as he allowed. I was very thankful as Memorial Day was coming up and he had a LOT of boats! True to his work a few days later the ski's were ready. Rates were very reasonable and he also pointed out several things that I didn't know about the ski and it's previous owners and work that had been done. Here's the deal. This is a small family owned business with a honest owner who works hard. I wouldn't hesitate making the drive from Spanish Springs down to Minden again to make sure these guys are the ones that get to work on my skis. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!!! My boat unexpectedly went from running perfect on the lake to not starting. We had 1 day left to boat on our family vacation and I really didn't want to disappoint the family. Worse yet haul a broken boat 10 hours all the way home feeling defeated. I reached out to Ward and his wife and they were very responsive! First off they actually answered the phone and listened to symptoms of my problem. Ward gave me advice on what to try on my own and told me to recontact if I could not resolve the issue. I wasn't able to resolve the issue on my own and Ward's wife said bring it in. As soon as I arrived, Ward went to work immediately, diagnosed the problem, had the replacement part in stock and installed it all within 1 hour. Even better the charge was very reasonable. I offered to give them a $50.- tip but they refused and just asked that I write them a positive review, so here it is!!! Great people, great family, excellent mechanic, I am better off for having met them. This is the place and Bummer is the man. It is just good old fashioned customer service with top quality work done in a timely manner. I don't know if I take my boat there to get fixed or to bullshit with Ward but he will always get u fired up to get on the water and prepared to do so. This guy diagnosed a problem with my boat in 15 minutes that a competitor could not do in an hour and back on the water. Asked if he would put in solar panels he said sure I will try it. Now my boat produces more power than the alternator and worrying about battery life is almost a thing of the past. Had Ward Winterize my 22' Cobalt last fall. Came back in spring to get it ready to get back in the water. No problems on either end. First day out the boat died. Couldn't get it started. Got it into Ward the next Monday. Took him about 10 minutes to diagnose bad fuel pump. Ordered a new one and three days later I returned to replace fuel pump. Rums great! This guy has a lot of 5 star reviews, turns out, it's deserved. Ward is using honesty, integrity, intelligence and likability to build a business. I bought a used Cobalt with what I had been told was a seized motor. Ward and I discussed several options for engine replacement, he was very flexible in finding, the most cost effective solution. At this point, Ward could have started the labor intensive engine rebuild. Instead, noting under 1000 hrs, he questioned the previous "seized" diagnosis. He immediately finds a bad starter and recommends a way forward. Invest in a new starter (I'll need it anyway) and try and fire up existing motor. Ward quickly "unseized" the motor and saved me a TON of money. He fixed the hydraulics on the out drive and checked out all other systems. Sent me videos of engine and out drive running. Thoroughly advised how to test an unfamiliar and untrusted boat. Sea trials today proves this guy knows his stuff. 5 stars: well deserved Ward, look forward to a long relationship. Bought a used boat and was having starter issues. After dealing with a local mobile repair guy and trying to get the boat into one of the shops locally (Reno), and being told they couldn't look at it until late August, I called Award Quality Speed and Marine after seeing their ad on craigslist. I am so glad I did. Ward and his wife are awesome! I was told they could look at it in a couple days and I dropped it off in the evening of the next day after I called. The starter I took them was specced for the engine I had but just didn't fit. Brought him another starter a couple days later and he put it in while I was there, working late on a Friday night. Although the original issue with the starter was still there he helped me with a workaround and got the boat running so I can at least use it for the rest of the summer. He charged much less than I was expecting for the labor he did and also provided some info I was not aware of about the motor and went above and beyond with his service. Also, their posted labor rates are much lower than the repair shops in Reno. It's rare you find mechanics of any kind that offer the kind of service he and his wife did and I will be taking my boat there for any service issues I have in the future. read more

My wife, three kids, and I lost a bearing on our boat trailer 60 miles into a 300 mile trip home, just south of Gardnerville. The tow truck driver recommended Award Quality Speed and Marine and I couldn't be more thankful that he did. The flat bed dropped the trailered boat off at 4:30pm, just before closing. Without hesitation, four guys (including the hot rod mechanic next door) dove in and stayed two extra hours to get us back on the road. This could have been a nightmare experience: stranded family of five, unexpected hotel costs, rush rates on labor, or a 480 mile round-trip drive back to pick up the boat later. Instead, Ward and his team went WAY out their way to get us back on the road. Four guys after hours should cost a fortune right? Not here. The rate I was charged was so low I felt guilty - he had the chance to take advantage of our vulnerable position and did not. He and the staff were friendly, informative, indulgent, humorous - great company while I waited. Man I have nothing but GREAT things to say about Ward and his crew! I have been looking for a TRUE PERFORMANCE BOAT SHOP since I moved to Tahoe from Missouri and finally found one! Ward is the best he gets the job done right and doesn't ask to look into your wallet before he gives you a price! I needed to have my 30ft baja de-winterized and a cupler replaced on the port side. The shop I had my boat at in carson said they could not get to it until June. So another GREAT find is DD towing the driver towing my boat told me to check out Wards shop. So I gave him a call and he said no problem bring it down! So I did and he knocked out everything I needed in less then a week! He was also kind enough to let me and my GF Clean and wax the boat using his shop and all his tools on a Saturday!!! That's unheard of but he was all for helping us! If you are looking for anything Marine he is your man I know I will go no where else HE WILL ALSO MAKE TRIPS UP TO THE LAKE TO WORK ON YOUR BOAT RIGHT ON THE WATER!!
