A job to install a deadbolt, correct gaps between the bottom of an exterior door and threshold and install a seal between a glass shower door and tile were the simple tasks requested. Well, for the dead bolt the individual removed the door knob and put on the dead bolt. So now we have a door with no knob and a dead bolt knob. For sealing the gap at the bottom of the exterior door, well he stuck adhesive weather stripping to the door. A picture is worth a thousand words. For the shower door, he attempted to glue a door sweep to the door. Obviously it didn't work. I'm a very handy guy with a lot of knowledge of how things should be done. This was complete incompetence. The company should be embarrassed by this type of work and then to demand payment.

I work until 6pm on weekdays so this man showed up and did the work even though it took him until 12:30am. The technician said it was probably a broken valve. We had two plumbers look at it stating it was not the valve and the issue was on the wall where the fix was done. On between the two plumbers, we reached out to The Happy Handyman to come back out to look at it and see what the issue was. She refused to take any responsibility for it. We had the 2nd plumber open the wall back up. The Happy Handyman had put in a check valve shark bite coupling and had installed it on the wrong direction. It cost us another $500 to have it fixed. If they were professional as stated on their comment they would have come back out to see if the issue was due to what they had done. We have had a lot of work done on our houses in the past, and we have never put a bad review on Yelp. The Happy Handyman is just trying to shift the blame off of themselves.

However, the rate that i was charged at $180/hr for each person to put together 3 beds was ridiculous. This was not transparent in their quote. I was under the impression that would be $180 for both ($90/hr) which is still expensive but doable. $180/hr per person is more than a Union Contractor makes in NYC. The Handymen were just there to build 3 beds! The price was insane and i will NEVER use them again. If you wish to use them, please make sure they provide you with a detailed breakdown of the costs (not just a per hour quote) so you are not surprised like i was.
