Had I thought about doing this even one day ahead of the meeting, I would have been able to book a blissful 90 minute service with super skilled therapist "Emily" versus the 30 minutes of what was left of her time when I called a mere 20 minutes before! The facility is small but perfectly cozy and amenable to all of your needs including organic teas (with the coolest steeping devices I have ever seen and that is coming from a "tea snob"!) and cookies in the waiting lounge, five shower heads in the stalls (that was a first for me) and a scrumptious steam room with what smelled like a combo of rosemary and orange oils sifting thru my senses. None of this would have mattered however if the massage I booked were lousy. Quite the contrary, Emily was...and I say this with a decent amount of experience behind me in this regard, thee BEST massage I've ever had hands down (no pun intended)!!! Not only was the pressure just precisely what I needed for my chronically aching lower back, she used no annoying elbows or otherwise jolting body parts to make her point. Here's the huge kicker: I ordinarily find any sort of conversation beyond "how's the pressure?" during a massage to be the opposite of relaxing. I actually had a good conversation with Emily *while* being perfectly relaxed; didn't even know that was possible. Though with the exchange rate, the 30 minutes + facility use was on the steeper end, this was definitely a "you get what you pay for" kind of deal that was for the best. The facial experience, however, that I had at the Westhills location was anything but. After explicitly stating that I wanted an experienced service provider when booking an appointment I was paired with someone who has been on the job for three weeks. While I respect their training they receive I have had several facial at Skoah and elsewhere and know when the service provider is confident in what she's doing and when she is not. This service provider was clearly experienced and lacked confidence. She did not check in with me about pressure, did not walk me through the products being used or why, and was uncertain about what she was doing, at best. I stop the treatment halfway through and asked to speak to a manager. When I expressed my concern is the response I got was, "I'm sorry you feel that way." There was absolutely no effort to compensate me or to remedy the situation in anyway. When I asked to be put in touch with the owner I was given a generic email address and a 1-800-number. Not only did I leave with incomplete, poor service but also a poor attitude and completely unacceptable levels of customer service.

I've gone for many massages, often once a week or every two weeks to a reputable upscale spa downtown, so I do know what a good massage feels like. This massage felt like they had never had any formal training and didn't understand how to knead muscles. I was so unhappy I stopped midway through and left. The masseuse did not ask me why I wanted to leave early. When I was leaving, I had planned to say something to the owner but the masseuse was nearby and I felt uncomfortable. However, I did make a point to call the next day and speak to the owner. I told them my experience and they said they would look into that masseuse's skills etc. I was not offered money back or anything. I discovered multiple bruises on my legs from this massage. The owner is nice but lacking customer service skills I would not recommend this place. There is a better Hammam place in the south that I prefer and I would recommend the Fairmont for massage. I saw this salon while grocery shopping, and decided to try it out on a whim - very glad I did! The initial appointment booking was positive - the receptionist asked a couple of questions about my hair, recommended a stylist and was helpful in finding a good time (evenings and weekends... :P) When I arrived for my appointment, the salon appeared fairly clean and tidy with lots of product displays. I was sent to the hair salon downstairs (I didn't realize the building was so big!), where I met my stylist Shauni. She was friendly and welcoming, and totally put me at ease immediately. Here's the thing. I like to change my hair up, and I like a stylist who isn't afraid to make some suggestions based on my face, the way I describe my routine, the length of my hair and any goals I might have (growing it out, something "beachy", etc...) I can be somewhat vague and I don't always know exactly what I want when I arrive at the salon, so I love someone who can be flexible, take charge and produce a great cut on a limited amount of information and direction. Shauni totally did that. She was a great listener, made some suggestions (we cut bangs instead of a side fringe because she pointed out it would get a bit flippy with my glasses - observant!!) and was a confident, efficient stylist. The hair wash chairs were the most comfortable I think I've ever been in. The salon was helpful and friendly, and there was a down-to-business attitude that I really like - I was in and out within about 45 minutes. I love my new haircut, and I'll be going back to her again when it's time to get it cut again!
