We walked over to Target and then to the little coffee shop across the street and we were just finishing up our coffee when they called it and said our car was ready! From the time we left our house to the time we got back in our door it was under 3 hours and the price was so reasonable! We've been taking our cars to Ayers for years now and we are always happy. Maybe I'm just prone to pessimism an expect the worst but I've been pleasantly surprised by these guys every time. I bought an old pickup from a buddy and he recommended going to Ayers to have a P/S leak repaired. The job was done as promised an a who lot cheaper than I expected. I just took my POS Mazda in and took a little longer than I expected but Joe called and let me know he was waiting on a part and it was done by noon the next day. Super rude. I am a young woman and went in there for help with my car and was ignored when I tried to tell them what was wrong. I was walked away from several times by the front desk guy and he told me there was nothing he could do for my vehicle. I was driving my Subaru Crosstrek around some gravel roads around Hawi when the right front wheel starting making a grinding noise. I thought maybe I bent a brake pad, or broke a wheel bearing. I drove slowly (and noisily) back to Kailua, remembering Ayers was recommended. This was a Friday, and I was hoping I could make an appointment for Monday or Tuesday. When I stopped at Ayers, at 4PM, they actually told me they could look at it that moment, and they did. They looked around, and found a rock wedged in the wheel. Put it back together and said "no charge." I could not believe it! So I tipped them $20 and it was the best $20 I ever spent! read more

We're never going back. We were quoted a price & when my wife brought it in, a higher price. I asked if he could honor the price & he was visibly annoyed. We had to pay, but vehicle was not fixed. It was quite difficult to find the place, as they have moved and the address is not updated on Google maps. If you are trying to find the place it is on Pawai st. The same street as Kona Brewing Co. They are the second driveway on the right when you turn onto Pawai st. A green building is in the front so you will have to continue down the driveway to the brown building in the back. All I had to do was give my insurance, registration and keys, and sit in the AC waiting room for my safety check. I waited for about 30 minutes. The guys there are not very personable. Only one guy, who did my safety check, was friendly. Over all it was an alright experience. read more

Outstanding service!!! The only certified hybrid mechanic on island besides the dealership. This is the best auto repair shop I've ever been to in my life and I'm 43. Joe is always on top of things he knows what parts are coming in when their coming, how long you can expect to wait, everything! The prices are fare and honest I never worry that I'm being over charged. The work is alway top notch. No matter how busy Jim is he always takes the time to answer my questions. My one star review is generous...there was no option for no stars. I don't often post things such as this, but I'm hoping to save other people from this experience by this company. My oldest needed to have the motor in his car changed after running it without oil...mmhhmm....kids just drive. We were referred to AYER'S AUTOMOTIVE by a family friend, so he went and was quoted $1800 to replace the motor and change out the clutch which my son purchased on his own. They were busy so couldn't have the car worked on for a couple of weeks. He had the car towed down once they said they were ready. After getting the car down there, it sat outside the shop for 1 MONTH...finally he got a call that the car was done, and he owed them $3230.28...WHAT???!!! AFTER BEING QUOTED $1800??!! They told my son, "We had to change a bunch of stuff" in addition to the initial and sole reason he took it in to them. Mind you, while it sat outside the shop, he had called in to check and was treated like his business didn't matter, and that they didn't need the work. He comes home with the invoice, and it states: *$2400.00 (LABOR) to remove and install the motor, clutch and other "related parts" *$680.09 (PARTS) which he wasn't aware were purchased and or needed. An EPA fee, freight fee, and tax. I noticed my son had signed and dated the invoice on 08/02/16 so I asked him if the amounts listed anywhere on the invoice was there when he signed, and he said no. He was told to, "sign here, sign here, and date here". The ever important options in the middle of the "contract" was not explained to him, nor was it even brought to his attention. So essentially they had him sign and date a blank invoice. Perfect for a naive young adult they can take advantage of. We own a business and do NOT have this type of business practice. It's sad that others lack the integrity and character we would hope small businesses in our town should have, and aloha for those in it. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! Worst service ever worst repairs ever. Clearly the manager Joe hates people and customer service. They might not be able to fix cars at all let alone have the issue resolved permanently. If they are busy forget about them repairing anything else on your car. With no notice, I had to ship my Mom's van off the island to the mainland and was not able to use enough gas in the drive down from Waimea to Kona since I had to have 1/4 of a tank left for auto transport. My transport company recommended another place in which they were too busy to help, but pointed at Ayers Automotive and said they should help. Did they ever help! Jim had an open bay and I told him that I had 45 minutes to siphon the gas out before I lose the chance to ship my Mom's van before we moved her off the island (Medical emergency). Long story short, Jim (The owner) did everything to help and got the gas out in 30 minutes. He only charged $50 which was awesome. Excellent service and went out of his way to help out a fellow human being. I would trust him with my cars if I lived in Kona. A good mechanic is hard to find. read more

They are a good auto shop. I've taken my car here for a couple of issues and the problem has been resolved most of the time. Their customer service could have been a little better, they seem kind of anti-social. I went in for a free estimate on my steering issue but left with a service charge. A free estimate should be free not free unless we take somthing apart. Other than that they are a good company with fair prices. Just do your research on what needs done and know what the problem is before you bring your car in. read more

The head mechanic Joe might seem a little on the shy side sometimes, but he's a really great guy and once he gets to know you he'll talk story like anyone else. Just a shame. Right before walking into Akua's I had a terrible experience across the street with Ayres Automotive. My car had completely shut off while driving it and and in the chaos of trying to figure out what happened, finding a tow truck, an auto shop and trying to diagnose the car. I decided on Ayres due to their great reviews. I called three times on the way there but each time their line was busy and voicemail was full. Upon arrival with the tow truck one of the staff members approached the car upset that I hadn't called previously with a heads up. I explained that I had and that I was sorry for the inconvenience but that I really needed their help. He then became furious and panicked and yelled "Ugh fine just fill out the paperwork. I'll get to it when I get to it. No promises on a time frame." Now I am a strong believer in proper customer service. Due to his behavior I decided to load the car back onto the tow truck and bring it across the street instead to Akua's Automotive, where I got the MOST AMAZING service. It was the complete opposite. Right off the bat, Dorian and the crew was incredibly helpful, patient and kind. They got me an estimate of the damage within an hour and waited for my approval to proceed. They seen a "damsel in distress" and decided not to take advantage of the situation. I am eternally grateful for Akua's. As for Ayres, please step up your game. You are apart of the customer service industry. Therefore you need customers and their money to stay in service. read more
