Its terrible, and people in the area put up with it cause they don't know any better. I've been in healthcare for a long time and seen all sides. This is wrong. I had a doctor at the ER that with all the tests done and the same info I shared, he did not give me the right antibiotic. I had a serious infection and high fever for a week and he doubled the antibiotics I had before I went to the ER... yes, and was charged 1k after insurance. Dr. Ortiz Saved another trip to the emergency room or something worse. I would take a good doctor even if it meant having to deal with some issues with the staff, it might just be uncomfortable to be in that position if you are in need of efficient staff. If you are, the manager resolved my issues when they were escalated, she was kind and made sure everything was okay.

I have a fear of needles and have been treated coldly in the past by nurses that just want me to "hurry up, sit down, and realize it isn't going to hurt that bad." This was NOT my experience at the Women's Comprehensive Clinic for Internal Medicine! Bobby was kind and cheerful which did wonders for putting me at ease about my blood draw. She is very skilled at her craft. I was also impressed with Dr. Rosemary Castoreno. She takes a comprehensive approach to women's health concerns and does not seek to quickly write prescriptions and over-medicate patients, I loved this about her. She took time to listen to my concerns and made a little extra time available for her staff to draw my blood, given I was so nervous about it. The location is very convenient to Joint Base San Antonio as well as I-35 and 281. They have only been in this location for three weeks but are off to a great start!

He takes time to listen to your symptoms, cares about your health and wellbeing, and (gasp) tends to be very timely. Added pluses are his location (I work downtown and often walk to/from his office), it is easy to get in to see him, and billing/admin stuff has never been an issue. If you are looking for primary care, I highly recommend Zarate Medical Group, in particular Rudy Zarate.

I've never waited more than 5-10 minutes in the waiting room and they don't leave to alone too long in the exam room, which is nice. I have even received early morning calls from Dr. Zarate after leaving a panicked message with the answer service.

The offices are relatively new, clean, and attractively furnished. The hallways have old pictures of the Quarry back before it was a shopping mall. The docs I've met here have all been proficient and professional. Parking is easy, and there's even a strategically placed Salata right next door so you can go eat healthy after your checkup. Some of the offices overlook the Quarry golf course, which is scenic. There's also an emergency room right next door if things go south in a hurry at your medical exam. I just wish they'd get some magazines for the waiting room. What kind of doctor's office doesn't have anything to read in the waiting rooms? Bring your own if you want something to read.

Cut me off from talking, and then repeatedly acted like I was a "bad" patient because I misunderstood how the 1 inhaler worked (I thought it was a second rescue inhaler instead of a symptom controller). Her exact words were "we in healthcare just make the worst patients- or maybe that's just me!" Insert eye roll here. Every other medication was taken as prescribed when prescribed. But I am a bad patient. They also neglected to include the work note I requested, then when I called they offered to MAIL it to me, or I could, mid-asthma exacerbation, drive back to the practice and pick it up. I asked if they could email it since I am alone, they said they couldn't. So I let loose with a stream of language that wasn't appropriate, but I don't feel bad about it.
