Dr. Ortiz Saved another trip to the emergency room or something worse. I would take a good doctor even if it meant having to deal with some issues with the staff, it might just be uncomfortable to be in that position if you are in need of efficient staff. I initially came in seeking estrogen pellet therapy because my current estrogen treatment is not adequately controlling my symptoms. I waited over an hour at my first visit (as a new patient) and over 30 minutes at my second. I paid $158 for the first visit and $118 for the second (my insurance my problem), which I was told would be a consultation for pellet placement. After discussing my history at length, I was ultimately told that because I am still menstruating, their BioTE program would only allow a testosterone pellet--not the estrogen therapy I came in seeking. My provider even consulted her supervising physician seeking an exception and I was still denied. This practice relies solely on a computer program for dosing and not symptom dosing which is what the most recent evidence based research states to do. I completely understand that a practice can have its own treatment protocols. My issue is that this limitation was not communicated to me before I paid for a second appointment. I would not have incurred the additional expense had I known the treatment I was seeking was not an option. Overall, I left feeling that my time and money were not respected. This clinic is for menopausal women or women who have had a hysterectomy. Biote (the computer program) does not treat perimenopausal women who are menstrating with estrogen deprivation symptoms and neither does Marcos Medical group.
