UPDATED Review: The…read moreteam reached out to me previously and offered to fix the issues. In our conversation, Rubi assured me that they will fix whatever is wrong with the project. I was hesitant because she said that one day would be enough to do it. When Gilbert arrived, he was by himself (unlike previously when he had an assistant) and said he would take care of the issues. I asked him if he can sand and stain the areas instead of painting in one day and he said it would take more than a day to do that. Given other circumstances, I really needed to reclaim the room that was being worked on and more than a couple of days of renos is something I couldn't do anymore. So I reached a compromise of him smoothing out some of the surfaces and painting instead of staining. Not what I wanted 100% but it is growing on me. I want to highlight that Rubi and Gilbert are genuinely nice people that would be willing to work with you regarding your project. Generally speaking, closing the loop in communication probably would have prevented mishaps. I can't give the 5 stars just because it is not what I had envisioned, but had the circumstances had been different and I had the ability to give their team more time to do exactly what I wanted, I truly believe they would have delivered a 5-star service. To make things more difficult, the plumber had left some of the new piping sticking out farther than it should have, which made replacing the drywall a challenge. Kevin did an amazing job working around it and carefully shaping everything so that you can't even tell there was an issue. The finished work looks great! The work was completed successfully, but I feel compiled to warn prospective JDR clients of two situations. The first is a suggestion you cover in detail the tasks you want them to complete as part of the job. Their bid to me included removing a large, wall-mounted vanity mirror and I assumed they would repair the minor wall damage that ensued. They refused, so I ended up doing it myself. The second, more significant issue I encountered is that my final invoice included sales taxes of nearly $500. According to Arizona statutes and tax guidelines, however, sales taxes are not paid on materials used in basic, MRRA remodeling projects. When I complained to Jeff, he immediately took the charge off with no effort to defend the charge. If you're a future or past client of JRD, check your invoice. If you are/were charged sales taxes on items purchased by your contractor for your MRRA remodeling project, ask for that charge to be removed. The positive news is my new vanity and shower are wonderful. I have no problem with the quality of work or materials completed by JDR.

Our work with Elvis started at the end of a major rewire. We had a basement that needed sheetrock around a large existing room as well as some new framing. Elvis' estimate was fair and reasonable: he clearly knew how to think about the work, to see around corners I couldn't see around, and I was confident in hiring him that he would do a good job. It wasn't until he started working that I realized how much I'd underestimated both the project's complexity and Elvis' skills. Turns out a lot of the framing was out of level. That the wire runs had created many complicated issues. And that some of the things we had only partly thought through would take a lot more time and effort than we'd thought. Other contractors might have handled these challenges differently, but Elvis approach was completely unselfish and focused on the best outcome for the project. He took every challenge as an opportunity to make things better. Turns out, he's also an excellent carpenter, so that entailed everything from making beautiful built-in work surfaces to finding ways to incorporate the huge redwood beams in our ceilings and walls into the finished work. He even suggested and implemented a lovely stucco finish over the perfectly-installed sheetrock to bring things together. The result is that what started as a serviceable basement is now a lovely cellar. What's important about that, beyond the craftsmanship, is that the outcomes are really all due to Elvis' great eye and his patient, thoughtful work. Elvis is a master craftsman. I can't recommend him highly enough. And we'll always be thankful to him for his lovely work.
