I didn't end up using him. For a few reasons. 1. He smelled like a cigarette. 2. When he came over he didn't sound all that confident that he knew how to do what I wanted him to do and it was multiple projects. 3. The main project I needed him to do he said it would take him 2 day 16hr to complete at 95 an hour. To me that seemed a bit odd, but I needed the work done so I scheduled with him. I decided to have 2 other licensed contractors come out for quotes for the exact same projects and ultimately had the project done by a different contractor and it took 1 person 4 hours to do what he said would take 16hrs to do. So woman reading this review beware, seems to me he was really trying to take advantage of me oh and then he says at the end he charges $15 trip changes. I don't know if he was truly capable of doing job or not what I do know is that he was definitely trying to overcharge me. He also never took any measurements he didn't have a notepad to write down any of the projects that I wanted completed. Maybe he's great at doing small projects that don't require much. But I am very glad that I decided to get more quotes. Because if I would have went with him I would have paid four times as much for him to do the work. read more

See attached pics. They speak for themselves. I did not request a refund nor did I offer to take down my review in exchange for a refund. This is just straight dishonest by Dan. He did work, he was compensated, it was not good work, so I cut my losses and moved on. We are prepping the house for sale. I made the executive decision to hire some of the work out to Dan the Handyman versus just doing it myself. The tl;dr version is I completely regret using Dan the Handyman as it cost me a good bit of money and I ended up having to clean up after him and redo 80% of the work he did because of very poor craftsmanship. Dan followed up on an initial appointment to come by and see what work we had lined up. The first red flag is he didn't take any pictures, didn't take any notes, no measurements, nothing. He just walked through for 5 minutes, gave me his hourly rate, and we scheduled him for a future date. I thought his hourly rate was a little much, but I don't mind paying a premium for good craftsmanship. If it was good I didn't care I needed it done. He showed up on Day 1 nearly 2 hours late. I showed him the punchlist we made up to help him prioritize the work and we walked the house again. From there he left to go to the hardware store for supplies. I went off to work didn't think I needed to babysit him. He's a professional handyman if he has questions he'll ask, else let him do his thing. He returns and were now 3 hours after the start time and finally getting to work. He works for a few hours and notifies me he has to leave early to attend a family event, so he wraps up working for the day. I schedule him for another day and he's off. Once he leaves I walk around to see what he's done and while he's completed some tasks, for a few hours of work there's disappointing progress on the punchlist, mostly just the low hanging fruit, the super simple tasks. Further, he's left a mess behind him. He didn't use drop cloths, there's drywall mud and paint splatters all over. At some point he wiped his hands on decorative towels in the bathroom that we had to throw away. I chalked it up to being in a rush but should have seen another red flag. Day 2, he's late again. I stress to him today we have to get things done and wrapped up as we have open house the next day. He acknowledges and gets to work. A few hours in he says he's done for the day and will have to come back to finish up. Disappointing because he should easily have this easy list done in two days if he prioritized the work correctly. There's a slew of tasks that are half finished or did wrong and he's leaving and wants to come back another day. My wife and I look at each other after he's left and we now have several hours of work in front of us to complete the work he did and also to clean up after him as he left another trail of debris behind him. We needed a door replaced and he bought a different door than the style in the other rooms when those doors were available as well. He hung it without painting it even though we had the paint for him already. When he trimmed the door he decided in his brilliance to do the work in my garage instead of the driveway, he cut it poorly and also got sawdust on everything, my brand new car, camper, all over stuff that was being sold. So he caused me 2 hours of cleaning the garage again after we just did it. He mounted the house numbers crooked (see pictures, they are worth a thousand words) and forgot to use the decorative screw covers which can't be added without ripping the numbers off the house and completely redoing it. He installed new can light reflectors but used a different style than the rest of the house when the correct ones are in stock and cheaper. He washed his tools in the middle of our front yard in my wife's rose garden and got drywall mud all over the front of the house, the sidewalk, the roses, and didn't even try to wash it away. He washed his painting tools in our stainless kitchen sink instead of the utility tub in the laundry room. He got paint and mud all over my expensive brewing equipment because he was too lazy to simply move it out of the way or put a $5 drop cloth down. Needless to say we called him shortly after he left and asked him to cancel and never come back. All he had to say was "oh, okay" as if he was expecting it. There was awkward silence for 15 seconds as we awaited his response but he had nothing further to say, never asked for further explanation, nothing. We decided cut our losses and move on. No I did not offer to have him correct it, his workmanship is so poor that two or three tries would not cut it. Overall, I tried to get some help with the work that needed to get done and I regret the decision to go with Dan the Handyman. He was at the top of the list of highest rated on this site and I don't know if I got him on an off day or called the wrong number and somebody else showed up, but I was very disappointed in almost the entire experience. read more

He was 1.5 hrs late with no communication. He smelled like a bag of cigarettes, made my whole house smell. He walked through my yard in and out instead of using the sidewalk. He quoted me $235 for 2 hrs of drywall repair in my bathroom, that included materials. He arrived at 1215, said he would be there at between 10 and 11. He left at 121pm. He still charged me $235!! He did not adjust his price. I was not home and my son was there and paid him before I could argue. The work itself is fine, but everything else was bad. read more
