Once they complete the appraisal of the items they take the information back to their office and do thorough research. They do not give you any values during the appraisal (its not Antiques Roadshow). They prepare a report and send it to you. It is very expensive, and I would caution people that all the items in your home that you think are valuable; probably are not. But sometimes appraisals are necessary.
