I'm usually not a fan of burritos where everything is mixed together because I like to taste each ingredient, but this one completely changed my mind. The flavors were balanced, the ingredients were fresh, and every bite was delicious. The al pastor tacos are just as good--well-seasoned, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I paired these with one of the milder salsas, and it added just the right amount of flavor without overpowering the food. I'll definitely be coming back. This spot was oh-so-lovely! From the very sweet owners to the Adobo tofu taco that had me thinking "how can I make this at home back in Indy?". It had me rethinking all the possibilities of tofu. The juicy chicken taco was equally delicious but the tofu blew my mind. The space is very clean and colorful with vibrant decor and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Elote and 2 tacos (you pay per taco, there are no combos/plates). Elote - comes on the cob. The corn was crunchy, lots of tajin so was extra tangy. Could probably have a bit more cotija cheese or mayo to balance it out. 2 tacos - got the Al pastor and the lengua. Both were a larger size so filled you up and I thought the meat was tender. AzTec Taqueria is a small spot in a new development that offers all the classic Mexican dishes from Tacos, burritos, quesadillas and more. On a recent visit to Madison, we were after a chill lunch spot and we found it here! The space isn't big, but it is well laid out and features the order counter, a small bar with 2 seats, drink station, a few indoor tables and a fairly large patio with several tables. Once we ordered we made our way outside as it was a gorgeous day and who doesn't want to eat tacos outside! We started with queso and chips, then rounded it out with a few tacos and a quesadilla. I had the birria quesadilla and while it was a tad greasy, the birria meat was excellent and the cook on the quesadilla was perfect. I also got a grilled chicken taco and honestly, not my favorite. Took one bite and realized it wasn't for me. The chicken was bland and the tortilla was cold. The queso was solid, but the chips were grocery store quality. No knock, but just staying. Only other thing to point out is their salsa levels. They offer mild, medium or hot. Mild is pico, not actual salsa. May want to change that so it's more representative of what you are getting. Service was friendly and helpful, the place was clean and in great condition. Overall, solid spot that we both enjoyed and would go back to for sure! read more

Pleasantly surprised the moment I cracked open the doors to the roomy airy bright space with cozy clean tables towards the back. Sunlight pours through this whole restaurant it being in a corner lot, and definitely going to be a new go-to! Cashier and server were efficient yet patient, knowledgeable and friendly, 10/10! It looked so good that I barely had the patience to wait for a minute to let it cool rather than burning my tongue! Fortunately I had ordered some chips and guac to eat in the meantime which was super tasty. The aesthetic and food options here is ideal for lunch! The entryway is filled with bright green plants, colorful wall art, and friendly staff. Additionally, the food comes out quite fast, making it a good choice for those who are tight on time! My only critique is that the dining area near the back is less stylish than the entryway. There's no plants and very little wall art. Fortunately, the bright floor length window help brighten up the space and make it more enjoyable. Went here for lunch on a Saturday and were happy to see that they had a steady stream of people coming in and eating. The guy behind the counter who took our order was super friendly and slightly sarcastic, which we loved. He gave some great recommendations for our first time there. We ended up ordering the queso taco, adobo tofu, al pastor, and an adobo pollo burrito. The queso taco was very messy but delicious. The beef had good flavor and there was a great cheese pull, the consommé was great to dip in. This was the standout of the tacos. The next best was the adobo tofu. Good flavor but the tofu could have been slightly crisper. The al pastor was nice and standard. The burrito came with the option of Mexican rice or cilantro lime rice. He suggested the Mexican rice, and I'm happy I went with the suggestion. Super flavorful and a great accompaniment to the adobo chicken which was nice and juicy. Would definitely order a burrito again. All the tacos and burrito come with a choice of salsa. We ended up getting the salsa verde which is supposed to be a medium. We also asked for their hot salsa, which I don't think we ended up getting. The medium was pretty mild, so I'm interested in trying the hot salsa when we try them again. read more

Madison's taco scene is lacking. However, if you drive 10-15mins south, you'll find Aztec Taqueria. Owned and ran by Sal, you'll find probably the best tacos in Dane County. My favorites in order: lengua (tongue), asada, al pastor, chicken. Tortillas are made in house and you can tell the meat quality is top notch. Each bite is flavorful! We ordered carne asada burritos, tacos al pastor, and chips and guac. Food was flavorful and the green spicy salsa was delicious! The menu noted the burritos come in a "California flour tortilla," it was curious to me since I just moved from California...and have never heard of such a thing...until I saw the tortilla. Yep, that's a Cali style flour tortilla! It's the kind you'd find at a 24hr taco spot like Tacos El Gordo, Robertitos, or any burrito joint that wraps their burritos in yellow paper-IYKYK. That being said, the fresh cilantro, white onions, and salsa with flavor is definitely a hint of home (SoCal) that I haven't found yet in the Madison area! The carne asada flavorful, al pastor was a touch sweet-probably the pineapple they use on el trompo-the rotating spit thing. The taco tortilla was delicious! Also had the Cantarita which was easy to drink and came in a very colorful terra cotta glass. Finished with Churros, less sweet than most and very nice presentation. This place is amaaaazing. No, really. As a vegan household with limited options for restaurants in the area, we are adding this place to our regular rotation. I have tried the tacos and burrito bowl so far and they do not disappoint. The chips and guac are great, too. The tofu is not too spicy, which I often encounter at places like Chipotle and Pancheros. My 2 and 5 year old love the food too. Zero complaints!! Easy online ordering, with clear descriptions of what's included. Generous portions and decent pricing.
