Birria

So good!!! The queso birria was my favorite- along with the rice and beans. All of the salsas were delicious. Next time I am adding a margarita. Yum!

I really liked my burrito bowl with Al pastor with all the fixings - the sauces were really yummy. I also got a lengua taco, the meat was so tender and flavorful. The only thing I didn't care for was the super salty chips with our queso and guac. I'd definitely go here over Chipotle or a Qdoba

AzTec Taqueria is a small spot in a new development that offers all the classic Mexican dishes from Tacos, burritos, quesadillas and more. On a recent visit to Madison, we were after a chill lunch spot and we found it here! The space isn't big, but it is well laid out and features the order counter, a small bar with 2 seats, drink station, a few indoor tables and a fairly large patio with several tables. Once we ordered we made our way outside as it was a gorgeous day and who doesn't want to eat tacos outside! We started with queso and chips, then rounded it out with a few tacos and a quesadilla. I had the birria quesadilla and while it was a tad greasy, the birria meat was excellent and the cook on the quesadilla was perfect. I also got a grilled chicken taco and honestly, not my favorite. Took one bite and realized it wasn't for me. The chicken was bland and the tortilla was cold. The queso was solid, but the chips were grocery store quality. No knock, but just staying. Only other thing to point out is their salsa levels. They offer mild, medium or hot. Mild is pico, not actual salsa. May want to change that so it's more representative of what you are getting. Service was friendly and helpful, the place was clean and in great condition. Overall, solid spot that we both enjoyed and would go back to for sure!

Get the marg. Get the pina colada. The pina colada (not shown here) was almost twice the size of the marg. They don't mess around. Big fan of the drinks!

First time coming to AzTec Taqueria and truly enjoyed it. The worker that took our order was very nice and welcoming from the start. They had a variety of options including vegan options. The food had tons of flavor though the sauce could use some more spice to it. The establishment was very clean and tidy. It has both indoor and outdoor seating. The food came out very fast as well! If you're looking for a new place to eat 100% recommend checking this one out.

Nice little taco joint in an otherwise sterile part of Verona. We had several different tacos and all were enjoyed. Service is fast, polite and helpful. If you're passing by... our at the bourbon bar next door, this is a worthwhile stop.

Pleasantly surprised the moment I cracked open the doors to the roomy airy bright space with cozy clean tables towards the back. Sunlight pours through this whole restaurant it being in a corner lot, and definitely going to be a new go-to! Cashier and server were efficient yet patient, knowledgeable and friendly, 10/10! Cute mural paintings line the middle walls with gorgeous creeping plants lining them-- was such a nice place to be. AC was pretty nice too in the heat. We sat inside but the colorful and new-ish outdoor patio was so inviting, I'm definitely going to have to bring some friends for a chill summer evening dinner out with the pups Food was great! I liked the queso taco the most, it was LOADED and I mean LOADED with mozzy but also toasted to crisp on the extreme edges. Chicken and steak tacos were good but I do prefer more "messy" flavors for my Mexican food, should've ordered some guac to pair with but overall a wonderful hot lunch for a hungry gal. Burrito bowl was fresh and the salad felt gourmet~ this does come with guac and beans, also had the option between Mexican rice or cilantro lime white rice! Heard amazing things about their burritos so will have to try next time! Simple, no frills quick and yummy food in a modern, welcoming and bustling dining space gives this spot a solid 5-star! Will update again as I keep coming but I'm sure it will stay at 5~

Waking into AzTec Taqueria makes my mouth water! Every plate of tacos that passes you looks amazing and so fresh! When my order of the borrow queso tacos finally came, it was super hot and fresh. It looked so good that I barely had the patience to wait for a minute to let it cool rather than burning my tongue! Fortunately I had ordered some chips and guac to eat in the meantime which was super tasty. The aesthetic and food options here is ideal for lunch! The entryway is filled with bright green plants, colorful wall art, and friendly staff. Additionally, the food comes out quite fast, making it a good choice for those who are tight on time! My only critique is that the dining area near the back is less stylish than the entryway. There's no plants and very little wall art. Fortunately, the bright floor length window help brighten up the space and make it more enjoyable. I think if I come again in the summer, I'd sit in their patio which would likely change my review to a full 5 stars!

The service was phenomenal, the atmosphere was amazing, and as a picky eater it's hard to find food options for me but not only is the queso taco the best taco I've ever had but it was the absolute BEST food I have ever consumed!!! The food was so fresh, the cheese was perfectly melted, and the shredded beef was so juicy my hands were wet after taking a single bite.

Food 3/5 Service 3.5/5…read moreAmbiance 3/5 To me, El Imperio was a pretty promising place - the pictures I saw in advance were quite alluring, and the smell of good Mexican food is always a pleasant one. I left slightly disappointed, but it's quite possible my standards are just through the roof. I ordered the Molcajete Fajitas with beef. I usually expect something like a skirt or hanger steak, so I was a bit disappointed when they came out with ground beef - admittedly, it's not a bad choice given the form factor of the serving vessel, but it definitely was a bit on the tougher side texturewise. The ratio of meat to veggies also wasn't great either - I do remember lots of veggies in each of my tacos, which maybe is a sign that I need more veggies in general. The seasoning was also a bit on the weaker side - not to say it wasn't bad, but it doesn't give the same bold flair I'm used to in Mexican food. The accompaniments to the fajitas were okay, with nothing being super standout. I will say, the tortillas were quite delicious - nice and fluffy, and they were kept warm with the hot molcajete. Overall, I think there's still room for improvement - I like the creative gimmick of a hot molcajete, but it's going to take more than a hot bowl to deliver on true Mexican tastes.

We had a good time here, but the food left me a bit disappointed…read more We were warmly welcomed, seated right away, service was great. I opted for a couple tacos, chicken and chorizo. I love chorizo. So much. And I was excited about that one the most. But I was surprised when it came...it was certainly sausage-y. But it tasted....sweet? Like breakfast sausage. Or Cincinnati-style/Skyline chili. Not Mexican food, street taco chorizo. With the traditional toppings (and the Wisconsin-style taco toppings) the flavor, which I didn't like anyway, became actively bad. I can only assume this is they type of chorizo they order, but it was so bad on my taste buds. The chicken was ok, but the strangeness of the other taco made it entirely unmemorable. We got some adult beverages which were very tasty, and for an upcharge I got some sour cream that I used to make the rest of my plate in to a bit of a meal-filler because I couldn't finish that taco... So overall, it was fine. But I don't know if I would choose to come back here, but I am sure I could find something else on the menu to get me through.

Maybe because this location is kind of tucked away in a Verona residential neighborhood? It's a nice new space, great decor, and amazing back patio area. It was so nice sitting outside on the patio. The staff were attentive and very nice. I have been to many locations over the past years, even back to their Monroe Street days. This has always been one of my fav restaurants but I haven't gone recently and have never been to this location. Their chips are the best ever. We of course started with chips and salsa. I thought their salsa was just ok but the chips were incredible as always. I had my go-to order, chicken quesadillas. Not as good as they have been in the past. They do always have great rice and bean. I thought my meal was just ok overall. I would love to come back for dinner and maybe try something else on the menu.

After trying different variations from other restaurants in Chicago and Madison, I have to say they have the best carne asada fries (titled Loaded Fries under the shareable section). The fries are wedged with an assortment of quac, sour cream, their own cheese sauce, and pico de gallo. What made it so good was the ratios of the ingredients and the cheese sauce. The portions are enough for two people to share, though you may leave with clogged arteries. Although at times there may be a language barrier with staff, they were attentive to our needs and checked on us regularly. A fun fact is that they are located behind the grocery store aspect of the place. Vibes were great.

GF got 2 steak and one chicken tacos. She said steak was good but chicken was flavorless. I got lengua and cauliflower. The lengua was not cleaned well or seared so it was just gray meat with veins and other sclera in it. Cauliflower was typical bar food "deep fried buffalo" style, but on a taco. Guac was decent. I think the gal making margaritas mixed up sugar and salt and our drinks were salty. Poor service - total of 3 people attended our table but nobody returned to check on us. Total experience $45.
