Staff was super friendly and our server was very efficient she was running a lot of tables all sat at the same time. She was super nice and explained everything when we ordered. We had some cocktails, and dinner. The chips and salsa so good. The chorizo tacos had a good flavor. The burrito was pork. And man I have never had anything like it when you opened it up there was actual like big chunks of meat like from a roast, and that meat was phenomenal. It had such good flavor I mean, truly a super great burrito I would drink it towards the top of my burrito endeavors the meat side was just so spot on. We also made sure we saved room to try fried ice cream as one of the members of our party had never had it delicious yummy I will say we did split two dinners between three of us so that save us some room for dessert would love to go back. I do live Farr, but if I am in the area, this would be a go to spot for me at least once every time I'm in town. read more

Verona has a lot of Mexican options. If you want to dine in and enjoy chips and salsa and chat this is a good one. Portions are enormous. It's in a strip mall type location and shares parking with another busy restaurant, I'm sure they get a decent epic trainee crowd. Entrees can be shared. read more

The queso was very buttery wish they gave you a bit more in the appetizer. A hint if you like to take leftovers the pork reheated was as good as if not better reheated. Large restaurant worth visiting in the area. Each table gets chips and salsa and the chips are thick and don't break easy. I'm a fan. The salsa was pleasant but not that spicy or flavorful, which most people around here like. We ordered the burrito bandera, tamales and enchiladas. Everything was delicious. I like the different flavor sauces that come with the burrito bandera and it is large, so be ready to eat. The tamales and enchilada were also worth trying. I'd come here again! read more

We've been coming here for a while now, food is always pretty good. Tonight the food was good, I can recommend the tropical pineapple dish. However, we were just a bit frustrated with the service and subsequent interaction with the manager. While eating our complimentary chips and salsa we asked if they had a hot version of their salsa. The waiter said yes and that he would bring some out, which he did. It was actually some kind of Chipotle flavored sauce which wasn't very good, but that's not the point, which I'll get to later. I asked how the Pineapple dish was and if it came with sour cream or anything? He said yes, it came with avocado, sour cream, etc, etc. So I ordered it. After it came out, it didn't come with any of those condiments. So I asked about sour cream, he asked another waiter. He came back and said sorry, I was wrong, would you like some sour cream? I said yes. Now the frustrating part, I was charged $3 for sour cream which he indicated it came with and no mention of the charge when he asked if I wanted some. At least tell me it's $3 so I can decide. But I didn't complain and didn't mention it. Next, we were charged $3 for the "hot" version of their salsa that we ate with our complimentary chips. This time, I asked the waiter? $3 for the hot salsa with our chips? He said, let me talk to a manager. So the manager comes over carrying their menu and points to the Spicy Tomatillo Sauce in the menu and proceeds to tell us that if it says in the menu it's $3, that's how much it is. Heck, we weren't even looking at a menu, we were eating our complimentary chips. At that point, I obviously wasn't going to even mention the sour cream, it was clearly my fault. She did end up taking the $3 charge off after making sure I understood it was my fault and I should have had the menu memorized when asking for salsa. I'm sure we'll go back again in the future because the food is good, but we'll sit there and keep our mouths closed and take what we get. read more

Came here for dinner after having a taste for Mexican food but wanted to try something that I couldn't get at any other Mexican restaurant (like tacos, enchiladas, burritos). I asked the waitress what she would recommend and I got the tropical pineapple. I loved it, it was truly unique and had great flavor. It was a mix of everything: including shrimp, chicken, and chorizo along with peppers, cheese and pineapple which gave the dish a nice sweet flavor profile to counterbalance the slight spice from the meats. I would highly recommend ordering for anyone looking to try something truly unique. I would order it again next time I go back to El Charro. The restaurant had nice patio seating with a Mariachi band playing on the weekday that we went which was a really nice touch. read more

Checked out El Charro for an early midweek dinner. First impression: Very nice place. Love the big, comfy booths. Impressed with the free, warm tortilla chips and salsa. My fussy husband loved the salsa! The menu was large and reasonably priced. I ordered the Supremo Enchiladas to try them all: bean, cheese, ground beef, and chicken. It was served with a small salad. I really enjoyed everything. Most impressed with the chicken enchilada. My fussy husband wanted a plain steak burrito with a few add-ons. So he ordered the Ribeye burrito. It was served with all his add-ons separately in little bowls, so he could really control how he wanted it. Brilliant!! He loved his meal! The ribeye was especially melt-in-your-mouth delicious! We were in the Verona area and had a hankering for some Mexican so we checked on Yelp and saw this place had good reviews and was nearby. This restaurant is in a relatively new building and so the space is rather sterile and generic. Since it was in the middle of the holiday week there were a number of families there with small children so we opted for a table in the bar area. The service was at first super attentive but that fell off as the place got more crowded. One of us order the lunch special #5 - a taco and enchilada and I ordered the enchilada and tamale plate (they never asked what kind of filling I wanted in my enchilada - it was ground beef). Both meals were solid but nothing special. It feels like they dumbed down the flavors for Midwestern tastes. The chips and salsa were so-so. If I could give less than one star I would, first the place is very dirty, walls are scuffed, chips all over the floor and crumbs on the seats. Very gross, embarrassed we stayed and tried to eat. First the guacamole was brown and watery, yes watery. I was then ready to drop $40 on the table and just leave, my friend convinced me to stay. Bad idea; my quesadilla was soaked in thin cheese sauce and looked like it had already been eaten. I opened it to expose nothing but a runny pinto bean mess. Ever since we discovered this place over the summer, we insist on eating here any time we are near Madison. It is SO good and authentic. Every dish made with a sauce is out of this world, A++. I cannot recommend the enchiladas enough or the Chipotle Chicken burrito. We always ask for hot sauce on the side and never end up using it because the dishes are so flavorful and rich. The portions are very large so be prepared to leave feeling very stuffed or with a to-go box. They also serve complimentary chips and salsa. Service tends to be a hit-or-miss depending on what time of the day you visit. When the place is busy it can take a while for service, especially when it comes time for the check. But, once you place your order the dishes are prepared quite quickly. Waitstaff wears masks and are friendly. Great dedicated vegetarian options but, you can easily ask for dishes to be modified to your liking. I always order the enchilada meal and ask for cheese enchiladas instead of any of the meat options on the menu. There is also a large bar inside, outside seating/patio area and TVs throughout the restaurant. COVID related notes - there is hand-sanitizer by the entrance and the check out area has a plastic barrier set up. Utensils are individually wrapped in plastic and tables are spaced out nicely. Food was ok at best, and the service was slow there were people standing around doing nothing. Ended up getting food poisoning and throwing up the whole night so that ultimately ruined my experience. I really wanted to like this place , the food is actually really really good , the drinks were good but the thing that knocks it down two stars is when asking for a beer I get the wrong one , explain to me darks only come in bottles , when I ask for a side of guacamole I don't expect to get a 1/2 gallon place with guacamole with 5 chips sticking out of it. We got the carnitas tacos and guacamole to go. They provided complimentary tortilla chips and salsa with our order. The carnita tacos came with two fresh and warm corn tortillas, which was necessary to hold the huge amounts of the marinated meat, onions, and cilantro together. It came with a cilantro tomatillo sauce that had me wanting to bathe the entire taco in it; a combination of smokey and rich salsa, unlike any other salsa I've ever had before. I thought $6.75 for guacamole was going to be a rip off like it typically is at Mexican restaurants, but they filled an entire 6" round container of it to the brim of ripe, green avocados, chunks of tomatoes, finely dices onions, and just a dash of cilantro. I'm fairly impressed with our to-go order, everything tasted like it came out of the kitchen even after bringing it home. No doubt you can expect only the freshest fare in the restaurant. read more

Not bad. They are super busy for a Monday. I looked up the menu online from my hotel room, which I found weird but appreciated the pictures of the food. In person, the menu looks great. I ordered a margarita, Shredded chicken nachos and cheese dip. I normally fane away from pico and vegetables, but actually found the green chilis on the nachos to be a perfect add on. The chicken could have been shredded a lot more than it was, but again, they were swamped. So I understood. Cheese dip (queso) was rather good too. The margarita, I appreciated that it wasn't the typical Mr & Mrs T mix. This was authentic with pulp or lime bits. I can't help but laugh as they continued to stack glasses next to me at the bar. OMGosh. This place is SO YUMMY! We ordered from here on a whim at work the other day. Having never been in or even looked at their menu, it was a new experience for myself and all my coworkers. We were NOT disappointed. First of all, excellent portion sizes. I easily got two meals out of my order, as did both of my coworkers. Second, the flavor was incredible. I went with the Hawaiian Fajitas. The sweet pineapple paired with the savory chicken and shrimp was done perfectly. The sauce and the flavor of the veggies was all just .. perfect. The produce looked fresh and everything was just put together really well. I was impressed. Third, service was great. They took our order over the phone and everything was ready right when they said it would be. I can't wait to go back and dine indoors one of these days. Covid compliant and they space their patrons out pretty nicely - I was a little apprehensive given that it's not really outside eating weather anymore. I love the cheese dip, like the guacamole, and their salsa is pretty tasty as well. If I liked shrimp I would totally get that pineapple shrimp dish I see being carried out to different tables - that is a fun presentation!! Fairly standard in terms of Mexican food. I have definitely had better and worse. The menu is what you would expect, but overall I would say very reasonable price wise. My issue with the whole experience is that it cost $1.25 for a side of sour cream. Really?? That seems excessive for something many restaurants provide for free. The service was pleasant, but our server didn't write down our orders, so he had to come back to confirm my order. No big deal, but kinda annoying... just write it down!!!
