At the time I needed to save some…read moremoney so they managed to find me a used transmission in good condition with only 60,000 km on it. I was happy and the work was done well, as far as I knew. Fast forward to last week when the transmission began to make a whining sound and I became worried as I had only put about 36,000 km on the transmission since it was installed in my vehicle. Aamco was closed at the time so I took it into Great Canadian Oil Change to have them do a transmission fluid change to see if that would help. The manager of the oil change shop raised alarm bells for me when he told me that every transmission store knows that when they buy a used cvt transmission they have to install a new transmission screen because the auto wreckers drain the transmissions and remove the metal screens. He said that mine had been removed and a new one had not been installed when it should have been. So, I contacted Aamco and learned that there were new owners (James and Michael). It wasn't long before James called me back and said that he was sorry for my troubles and that he would look at it when it was convenient for me, which was today. James brought the vehicle into his shop, gave me a lift to my office, and then delivered the vehicle back to me at my office when the vehicle was ready after putting in a new screen and refilling the transmission with new fluids. He asked me to check back in with him in a few days to let him know if it was driving fine and said there would be no charge for anything and that he was happy to be able to look after me. I highly recommend these guys. They could have just as easily either charged me something or told me that it wasn't their problem. But, they didn't. Instead, they went out of their way to make me happy even though there was no money in it up front for them. Since I needed to keep heading north for another couple hours, I decided to get it looked at. I didn't spend too much time looking up reviews, just wanted to find a place nearby. I called Southgate and while they warned me they were closing soon and may not be able to repair anything, they said they'd at least take a look. I showed up, they asked a few questions, and then took the truck in while my girlfriend and I waited outside. About 20 mins later the guy called us back into the office where one of the mechanics explained that a rod connecting the A/C compressor to the engine had failed and was causing overheating and the noise. He said that if I had kept driving, the whole engine would have seized up! Amazing! These guys just saved me thousands of dollars and being stranded for days. They disconnected the compressor and removed the plate and now, while the AC wouldn't work, the engine was safe to drive. When I asked how much I owed them, they politely waived me off. "No charge" they said. I tried to insist, but it was no use. Have you ever heard of such a thing?! These guys are not only pros, they're damn honest and community minded. I live down in Vancouver so can't throw much business their way, but if you live around Kamloops, choose Southgate and support a business who cares about people and goes above and beyond -- even when they don't need to. I have a family member in the Auto repair business, and he said that I was charged a very fair amount for the repair service that was provided for me. The work was done at a professional level. Also Mike's explanation of the work provided, was clear and concise. Mike takes the time to ask if you would like to see all the work that was done, puts the vehicle back on the hoist and walks you through all the work. That is old school professionalism at it's best!!! Mike should open a school and teach other up coming mechanic's the art of how to run a repair shop!!! It was a holiday (July 1st) and never expected anyone to be working but when we arrive Mike started to work on our vehicle shortly after. 3 hours later and a few parts sourced out. ( lucky that Lordco had the parts) (thank you Leah for picking them up) we were on the road again. We travelled another 450 klm's and arrived home with no more trouble. City Center saved me from spending + $ for an unnecessary brake job; they charged a very nominal fee for removing , replacing and checking all 4 wheels. Honest, efficient, friendly service.
