Where do I start? My son (4 at the time) would not interact with us very much, would speak less than 20 words, and had several violent outbursts when we tried to change any activity or if his iPad would "die". When Big Solutions came into our lives we were hesitant because these were strangers who were going to socialize with our son and as parents we were scared of negative outcomes. Julian's journey began with his initial assessment and eventually to in home therapy. He was assigned 3 therapists including 1 supervisor. They (Ari, Claudia, Joy, & Paulina) are blessings!!! They connected with Julian but also became our teachers! They helped all of us with Julian's needs and how to understand what he was seeking, whether it be physical or emotional. As a parent with a child with autism, sometimes it's too easy to become frustrated and lose hope in any progress they may not meet. An example was my son's eloping. His father and I had no clue how to predict it or manage it. We would all take excursions to our local mall and his therapists were there with us the entire time. We learned to predict when he would run off, and why. He was seeking attention and sometimes just over stimulation so we learned to ask him to use verbal and non verbal cues of where he wants to go. Fast forward to three weeks ago while visiting an outlet shopping center (yes we wore masks) and we practiced all of those steps and he didn't elope! Had it not been for Big Solutions I would not see us going out with much ease as we have been. This is an agency that turned our life around and became part of our family while maintaining their professionalism. Big Solutions ENTIRE staff, from scheduling to in home, were amazing and extremely accommodating. They consistently helped Julian with communicating in various ways and adjusting to unexpected changes that happened every day. Big Solutions also helped us as parents in not give up and letting frustration and fear run our lives. They taught us so much and how to cope with unexpected outbursts and helping our son focus on his school. If you want to find the therapists without any experience and to worsen your child's condition, then you found the right place. This is the agency that you wanted! These people will send you unethical and unprofessional therapists who don't know why they are at your home and will mess up your house. If you will request to change the therapist, they will definitely do their best to make sure your child is harmed as much as possible. Therapies are just a business for them. My 4-year old son, Jethe, has autism and is non-verbal. He was not looking at me, he would not respond to his name, he would not sit down for even a second, he would run around aimlessly, he was not potty trained, and he would not listen to me. Even with these frustrations, my biggest sadness was that I could not communicate with my son and I couldn't understand what his wants and needs were. As a mother that was the hardest thing to deal with and it broke my heart. He would cry and I did not know why. I could not help him. I feel the need to take the time to thank B.I.G. Solutions and their staff, because they have done so much for my son and me. I have been able to watch Jethe learn and grow over the months, in so many ways. He now looks at me when I talk to him, he can sit down and do an activity until it is completed. He lets me know when he needs to use the bathroom, and he is following simple directions. Furthermore, he is learning to eat by himself, recognize shapes, colors, numbers, and letters. B.I.G. Solutions has always included me in what they are teaching Jethe during session time, so I can learn and follow through with what they are doing outside of session. I believe this has made my son's progress even greater. He can clap, wave good bye, and throw a bouncy ball, and so much more. The staff has shown me what Jethe is capable of and as he learns to communicate with sign language, pictures and the start of words, I can see more of his personality and a side of him I hadn't seen before. However, as a mother, the greatest gift from them is the ability to communicate with my son and to better understand his wants and needs. It is obvious that B.I.G. Solutions, including Juan, Ms. "J", Brenda and Jennifer do not just make it a job, but they have a true heart of compassion. They are good people! B.I.G. B.I.G. has been a God send. I've relocated my family from NJ and it is very hard to find the right people to trust with my son. Upon touring the facility, I met with the owner, Jenn and she showed such a compassion for BCBA. She took an interest in my son and her team have helped me navigate everything needed for my son prior, during and after my move from NJ to CA for my son. Chad has help tremendously with the backend to make sure my son can attend there. Angie and her team is amazing. They listened to my concerns and tries to rectify things fairly quickly. B.I.G is really here for the kiddos and families. They understand that having a child on the spectrum can be very challenging and they are very empathetic to our needs. My son adjusted very quickly and making huge strides which I am very proud of. My family was lucky enough to have Jennifer Sotodeh as a supervisor for our child in both the school and home setting for roughly five years. Her work ethic, respect for families, and professionalism is second to none. She was always accessible and went above and beyond to write reports and come up with appropriate programs to help our child reach their full potential. She is also incredibly reliable and knowledgeable and helped us to navigate issues that arose and made invaluable suggestions, both in the home and at school. Jennifer is direct, but always compassionate and made sure that all approaches used were appropriate and naturalistic, which was very important to my husband and myself. After my son was diagnosed with autism at age 7, I researched out to several companies offering ABA services. After speaking with Jennifer at length, I felt B.I.G Solutions' philosophy and practices aligned best with our family's needs and goals for our son. Over the next 2.5+ years, the team at B.I.G.s became an integral part of our family as we watched our son grow from an emotionally charged, quirky little boy who preferred to be alone, to a friendly and talkative kid who is much better at expressing himself in a more appropriate way and able to communicate his wants and needs more effectively. Our team of 2 therapists were amazing and truly became part of our family. We also loved the office staff and our supervisors as they were kind and accessible and always willing to listen to any questions or concerns, developing customized plans along the way to address any new behaviors. The best part, was learning as parents how to better handle our son's meltdowns and difficult behaviors (as well as becoming educated us on when and why they were likely to be happening in the first place!) A few months ago, we moved out of state and honestly, leaving our ABA team was one of the hardest things we had to do. During a search for new providers, I happened on an article about some autistic peoples' negative views of ABA. I honestly had never considered that ABA could be anything BUT helpful, but I did a lot of reading as I believe it's always important to understand varied perspectives. I know my son loved his ABA therapists as he would always ask when he had sessions and would respond "yay!" whenever my response was "today", and would often ask if he could "play" with them even on days he didn't have therapy. After reading some of the stories/opinions expressed, I could see that we were exceptionally blessed with the great staff at B.I.G.s. We were lucky to have fantastic providers that really listened and respected my son and his boundaries and weren't trying to change who he was, only modify the behaviors that could cause real problems in his day to day life (such as hitting or biting when angry, or running away and hiding when upset rather than communicating his needs). Not all ABA is created alike and some can actually hurt the people it is intended to help. Our son has truly benefitted from his therapy and is happier as a result because he doesn't get in as much trouble for his behaviors and he is understood much better by others, which has been a game changer for him. I do think its important for parents to really be informed and aware of the goals of the therapy and methods used in order for it to be successful. If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. Our team at B.I.G.s was super communicative and provided a ton of feedback for us regarding why our son might be doing some of the things he did, and what they would do and we could do to help minimize meltdowns and inappropriate behavior. It really helped us as parents to be able to meet him where he was at instead of getting mad and just reacting with anger or punishment. Now I can only hope to find a new provider in our state as good as B.I.G. Solutions to continue our son's great progress! read more

I recently attended a BIG Solutions presentation and was impressed with their philosophy and their approach to working with kids who have different types of disabilities. Jennifer broke us into groups and taught us about autism awareness through playing a game. She is very knowledgeable and personable, and it is obvious that she cares about her clients and their families. This is a long one, but I have a lot to say, because I feel its important to share with others what we've learned and to highlight the gems that are sometimes hard to come by. We have an 11 year old child with autism. Ever since he was diagnosed at 21 months of age, we have felt we were on a journey. Early in that journey, from the time my son was 4 until the age of 7, we were blessed to have Jennifer come into our lives and be part of our journey. The early years were incredibly challenging times in our lives and we were determined to secure the best resources available to us to help our son. Two very savvy mom's with their pulse on the "best of the best" for all things autism in the LA area recommended Jennifer Sotodeh as a behavioral supervisor. We couldn't believe how fortunate we were to be able to have her on our team. Jennifer is knowledgeable, compassionate, an amazing and dedicated advocate, and has an incredible work ethic. She has a big heart and this is not just a job for her, you can tell it is her passion. She genuinely cares about our son and she and her team will always have a special place in our hearts. Our family will always be grateful to her and her team for not only the support she gave our son, but the moral support we felt as a family. When a family member has autism, the entire family is affected. She invested the time to getting to know not just our son, but our family and always found ways to include my daughter and friends into therapy to help build our son's social skills. Jennifer is an excellent communicator and always kept us well informed about what she or her team were doing or thinking of doing, and sought our input. Jennifer is very conscientious and mindful in her work with families. We are very hands-on parents and she was able to accommodate that, but I think she could easily accommodate to any parenting style. She worked with my son in the home, community, eventually the school setting, and after school care. He was only in pre-k when we started working with Jennifer and she oversaw and facilitated the transition from an NPS to full inclusion in a public school setting. Jennifer always attended IEP meetings with us and was well prepared. Jennifer went above and beyond to make sure that we understood my son's goals before the meeting, his progress, and always kept our goal in mind - to increase our son's level of independence. In other words, Jennifer worked hard at fading out herself and the behaviorists she supervised, but always understood that the way to achieve that was to build my son's skills. There was always a strong focus on skill teaching/building, which was very important to us. I am a school psychologist and have a good handle on the special ed/IEP world, but my husband and I always felt confident having Jennifer at our side at IEP meetings. She is professional and helped us advocate for our child in a positive manner, allowing data to support and help the team make informed choices for our son. Jennifer worked well with the public school/district team, which had some challenging personalities, to put it mildly. Jennifer's professionalism and honesty gave her the needed trust and credibility that was needed with the school team. This was important to us, because as someone who has sat on both sides of the table (as a parent and as a school psychologist) I appreciate the importance of positive advocacy.As a professional, I've worked with many behaviorists, and appreciate Jennifer's professionalism, easy-to-work-with personality, attention to detail, and compassion for her clients. As a parent, I'm happy to report that my son is now going into 6ht grade and has been able to be fully included in a general ed classroom successfully all 5 years since his transition from NPS to public school. As can be expected, his autism continues to present challenges, and we do hit bumps along the road. We take those challenges as they come, we dust ourselves off, and continue to grow. We continue to be blessed with wonderful caring professionals that support us along our journey, and I can only hope that other families would be so fortunate to have Jennifer as a partner in their journey. read more
