Wow, I just randomly went to share The Center with a friend and found their Yelp page full of…read morenegative reviews. I guess it makes sense because this is exactly the sort of business you take for granted and forget to review - unless you've had a bad experience. Funny how we will race to our keyboards to proclaim the best doughnut or latte but totally forget something which has made a positive impact on our lives. My teenager has seen two counsellors here in the last couple of years. She ADORED the first one and made great progress. Because of the nature of the Center as sort of a first stop after graduation her counsellor moved on and she was very reluctant to see another. I thought about paying the literally 3X as much to see the former counsellor in her private practice but decided to contact the coordinator, Cami to see if we could get in with someone new. She was super helpful and professional and matched her with a new therapist. Every week my daughter says after her session "well, she's not _____" but also every week she is making progress. Maybe lightning didn't strike twice (and believe me, we had tried several other businesses with abysmal results first) but her new counsellor is professional, compassionate and competent. Especially for those parents out there struggling to get someone referred by their child's primary care provider ... and I know that one. Spent WEEKS calling to find nothing through referrals. With their sliding scale I actually pay around what the co-pay would have been without nearly pulling my hair out to find someone through insurance. The intake forms are long but not dissimilar to what we experienced at other businesses. The difference here is that they stay in communication with you and let you know what is happening. This has worked out so well that even my EX HUSBAND now sees a provider through The Center. Give them a try.

I had a very unprofessional experience here at "the center for professional counseling " …read more After several months of seeing a counselor, she abruptly ended my sessions with no explanation. Said she could not tell me why but her manager CAMI could if I wanted further information. Being that her and I had established a strong counselor/client relationship, I was completely blind sided and confused. . At first I was disinterested in more information as I was very upset to hear this news. After a few days, I ended up reaching out to her manager CAMI several times via phone call/voicemail and never got a response In life we all have our triggers , mine are rooted in trust and abandonment. As you can imagine, this event pushed both buttons. At the end of the day, I chose to except the outcome and move on . Deciding to trust in myself and make the choice to be ok without answers. There are individuals who seek therapy that are on a thin line. This event shook me and I would consider myself a pretty stable being. It took me about a year to write this partially because I was embarrassed to share this info. My hopes is that, this post wakes up those at this center. As a counselor , you should never leave a human worse off than you found them. I entered therapy just wanting to do some spring cleaning within myself and left therapy feeling mishandled. I spent months sharing about my life's intimate experiences only to log onto my session one day and be dismissed.

I was so grossed out I just left. But it was very visible I thought it was a small blood stain. Now that place is dead to me. Those things are prob everywhere if I saw one with my naked eye. To make it worse this feels like a bigger goodwill issue. I've thrifted and dumpster dived 30 Years first time seeing a bed bug.

There were people coughing, talking to themselves wandering through every aisle, which made me feel uneasy and constantly looking over my shoulder. I originally came to exchange an item from a different location because I thought this store might have a better selection, but that wasn't the case. There is also what looks like a homeless encampment along the street side of the store. Inside, there were people hanging out at the dining tables (for sale), which made it hard for actual shoppers to move around. I even saw at least two people stuffing items into duffle bags. The exchange process was quick and easy, and the staff handled that part well. However, the store really needs some type of security at the door to better manage who comes in and prevent the issues happening inside.

The world is a difficult place and it isn't about handouts.. it is about HELPING your fellow human being. Some people don't have families to run to and have to find other resources... Luckily, the Interfaith Food Pantry is here to help. This branch in Studio City serves Studio City and North Hollywood whether you are homeless or stuck in a poverty rut without food. Every Monday and Friday, from 10am-1pm , the First Christan Church (on the corner of Moorpark and Colfax) opens its doors to help those in need. You bring an ID/ proof of residency (different branches of Interfaith help different geographic locales so it goes by zip code) or the homeless just state their situation. Interfaith works on the honor code since no one would be so cheap as to pretend to be homeless to gain some canned goods. (It provides pop-open canned goods for the homeless). Everyone gets two bags. Generally a brown bag with canned goods, some pasta or beans, canned tuna, etc and a plastic bag with bread from stores such as Trader Joe's and Whole Foods (seriously). These are the breads that "expire" that day from the grocers so the food bank picks them up. The plastic bags also feature any other bakery goodies they gain like cupcakes, coffee cakes, etc. No meats or milk but this isn't a grocery store. No thrills, no fuss, JUST HELP. Bless the people with hearts.

What are you supposed to do with three dogs on a Sunday morning in LA when the weather is nice?…read moreWell, even though I just summed up almost every morning live here, the correct answer is take said dogs somewhere for some exercise and a nice walk. I've never heard of TreePeople and rarely want to venture into Beverly Hills but my wife was pretty stoked on checking this place out so that's exactly what we did. We showed up around 8:00AM and were lucky enough to snag a parking spot in the lot. The lot itself was pretty packed and clearly many other people had the same exact idea that we did. Once all three dogs were ready to go we enjoyed about 45 minutes of walking before the senior dogs needed to return and pass out in the back seat., fun I know. This area is super nice and has a bunch of different places to sit down on benches and get some amazing views of the city I call home. I'm not sure what the group was, but there was a big group of people being followed by a truck so at one point we had to jump on some stairs and get out of the way, not sure what was going on. The part we did was pretty much the entrance up a few small hills and over to a second bench area, but I'm definitely trying to come back here to hike the mountain at some point. Overall, this place was beautiful and definitely somewhere worth checking out if in the city. The trails I saw were clean and the place is clearly taken care of. I'll absolutely be back soon to hike the trails a bit more without my old dogs and I very much look forward to it.
