I got extensions here and had a terrible experience. The braids and net were so tight that I developed tension bumps, had a headache for days, and lost some hair that was being pulled. I reached out to the salon that few days later to see if they could help resolve the issue with the install but the woman I spoke with was indifferent to the severity of the situation or the discomfort I was in. She told me they were booked but I could try to come in a few days later and sit around to see if they could fit me in. She had no concern for the issue and was not apologetic at all. Extremely unprofessional. Please trust the honest reviews and go to black owned where your time and money is respected. Customer service and honesty needs work. Notice the high reviews, the "customers" posting it have never posted reviews elsewhere. Weird. The owner uses her cell phone as the forwarding number for this business but stops responding to texts. I made an appointment through their booking link and was informed that they could not fulfill without crazy wait times so I decided to cancel and was told I'd get a cancellation over the phone and my deposit refunded. They have yet to do so and the "owner" is dodging my messages. After we got off the call, she confirmed my appt in the system rather than canceled it as agreed upon. Just unprofessional and shady behavior. I try and support black owned businesses but not when it's unprofessional like this. Also not that welcoming or respectful in tone and transparency. 1. Why have bookings open you don't have time for? Clients have busy schedules also. 2. Why have a business phone you don't answer? 3. This review is about my initial experience at the BKrowned Hair and Beauty 14 East 125th street location. I was really excited to get my hair done at Bkrowned salon. After doing research; I decided to make a consultation appointment at Bkrowned Hair Salon. Now a days, clients are given the option to book online instead of calling the business to make an appointment. I think this is convenient for the business and clients. Unfortunately, the red flags started with me making an appointment for a consultation. I even contacted the salon on Instagram and I didn't get a reply. I made an appointment on 7/12 on Bkrowned website for the service I desired. Whomever is in charge of checking appointments, didn't confirm my appointment. I called the salon several times and was told someone would get back to me. I needed my hair done for an event. So, on the day I made my consultation appointment I went to the salon. The person who greeted me was surprised I came in person. I told the man my consultation request was not answered. I decided to come in person. One would think this salon was jam pack with clients since I didn't get a confirmation. I was asked to have a seat while he find someone to consult me. I waited 15 mins. The hairstylist was nice and thorough . She told me for the particular service I want; I should come in August since I recently dyed my hair and I wanted a relaxer ( price $150 and up ). I decided to make an (8/23) appointment for September. I used the Bkrowned website to make an appointment. The website had issues booking my appointment. For one, I had to leave a deposit. I didn't mind leaving a deposit if I will get a confirmed appointment. However, I couldn't make an appointment. There was an issue with the website. I called the salon. A woman told me to download the app. I told her I don't want to download and app on my phone. She said " call back if you continue to have issues ". Well I did continue to have issues. Side note : if this place was business savvy the person would have scheduled my appointment on the phone. I still use my old iPhone , so I decided to download the Vagaro app to make an appointment. I don't want another app on my current phone. When I looked on the page to make an appointment. There were plenty available appointments. I booked my appointment for 9/2 at 12pm. I had to leave a deposit. After I left a deposit my appointment was pending. What's the use of making an appointment and leaving a deposit and get a pending message. The day I requested was available. I call the salon the next day ( 8/24) , a woman answered the phone She said " Hello ". I thought " Did I call the salon? ". I asked " is this Bkrowned salon". She replied " Yes ". I told the lady I didn't get a confirmation for my appointment. I left a deposit as well. She said " give it some time ". Why do I have to " give it time? ". Then she told me " Someone will call you ". Well, no one called me ! It has been 24 hours since I made my appointment. Since she said " give it some time " I waited . She also told me " appointments aren't confirmed until the week of the appointment ". I'm a busy working woman. I plan my schedule. Why do I have to wait a week for a confirmation, especially after leaving a deposit! Two days passed ; and I didn't receive an email that my appointment was confirmed. I also checked the app. I didn't get a message. I thought to myself, these are red flags. I called serval times. Each woman I spoke to could have just PENCIL ME IN. You know , what people use to do back in the days. Heck, some businesses still pencil clients in for appointments. I never in my life had an issue making appointments and getting and immediate CONFIRMATION with or without a deposit. One would think with modern technology; appointments would be made in a snap. But, if a company doesn't care , the convenience is useless. I thought " I will not get my hair done at this salon" It's apparent they don't value customers and the salon owner isn't business savvy. I called 8/25 to asked for a refund. The person who answered the phone sounded like the lady who answered my called 8/24. I informed her I want to cancel my appointment. I've waited 2 days and still did not receive an appointment. She didn't apologize nor try to make it right. She asked for my name and saw I left a deposit and returned my deposit. Oh the irony, she could see I had an appointment pending and I left a deposit. Instead of making it; right she gave me my money back. Since she saw my appointment pending and a deposit; any wise business person ( employee ) would immediately book my appointment. I received a text message my appointment was canceled. I never had an appointment. My appointment was pending for 2 days. My service would have been over $200, and they decided they didn't need my money. Lol. I see this as a blessing in disguise. I send my 70 year old mother there to get her locs done... and we LOVE IT! I'm super protective over my mom, and there are days I can't take her... B, the owner, will personally call me and my mom to coordinate her appointments. And when I can't make it there they take perfect care of her... from walking her in from her car... to refilling her champagne glass. My mom now thinks she's one of the b'krowned girl.... Overall, a fairly good salon with a few drawbacks. I came to B'Krowned seeking a weave for my birthday and vacation. I found B'Krowned on the Vagaro app. After seeing their impressive work on instagram, I decided to book an appointment. Booking is very easy and there is no deposit required. My hair at the time had been growing out from a pixie cut, it had been about a month after I last had a relaxer. So here are my thoughts: Staff/Experience: - Awesome! I was the first customer of the day and they opened on-time. The staff including the owner are very personable and attentive. The salon is not only a beauty bar, it really is an experience. I feel like they brought it back to the old days, where you'd get your hair done and have great conversation with your stylist and other customers. Service: - I came in for a traditional sew-in with a side part using 3 bundles of hair. Although my hair came out absolutely beautiful, I did not like some of the process. Firstly, the stylist used oil sheen to hot comb my hair. I'm not a hair professional nor do I have professional experience doing hair however, I do believe hair protectant is essential. I also know my hair better than anyone and oil sheen is not enough. Secondly, she pressed the hell out of my hair, so much so that I had a burn on my forehead. Luckily, having a side part style covered it up. I have thin edges and my hair was relatively short. She kept going over my edges and certain parts of my leave-out, over and over. There were points during the service where I was flinching and after awhile, I simply said "please!". I understand she was likely trying to get my hair to blend as best as possible. But if a client is displaying discomfort, its best to find an alternate plan. Nonetheless, the style came out beautiful and the price was reasonable ($140). They also have a promotional card for returning customers. - Advertised times of operation are possibly incorrect. I tried to re-book for a wash and re-tighten a bout 3-4 weeks later. On the Vagaro site, it states that the shop is open on Sundays. I called on a Sunday to see if I could be squeezed in for a last minute appointment. When I called, a young woman advised me, "the stylists are not really in on Sundays, so there is no one to do hair". I didn't bother asking why the discrepancy on the site nor did I book for another day (wasn't conducive with my schedule). I would recommend they update this or as a customer, call first. Any style that I desire, they are able to achieve the look with no issue. Each stylist is unique and well experienced with their own techniques and styles. I've tried silk presses before that didn't last at all, it's all been a waste of time and money, but this press at B Krowned was AMAZING! I couldn't believe it. I have been natural for 2 years now, but seeing the finished work looks like I got a perm. My roots are so straight, my hair is bouncy and shiny, I'm in love! I am so happy I gave this place a chance. Although I do not live in NY anymore, I feel better knowing that whenever I come back home to the Bronx, that I have a place to get serviced! Second, Before coming to this shop I got my hair done at another salon and it was a total disaster, my birthday photoshoot was literally the next day so I called up B'krowned the night before and she took me in that same night extremely last min transitioning my hair from disaster to phenomenal. On top of that, no AC during a heatwave, how can you have your workers working in such conditions or even feel comfortable putting clients under the dryer with nothing but hot air blowing threw a fan. Prior too, I was finding personal hairstylists but found it difficult to align them with my schedule. The beauty of B'Krowned is that they have multiple stylists who are specialized in different areas. Braids, locs, natural hair, silk presses, coloring etc. They also offer brow & lash styling, teeth whitening & makeup services. HELLO! Booking an appointment is easy & you'll always be able to find someone to take care of you. When I walked in I was greeted with a "hello!" from not only the stylists but the customers. Masks are required & washing hands is a must. Mimosas, champagne, juice or water are offered. CLASSY GALS! And seeing Black women and young girls running the show?! I loved it. This salon is quintessential beauty & luxury for Black women. Not to say they only style Black women, they can do anyone, but the music, conversation & overall vibe is just beautiful. Honestly. I personally have had a weave installed, knotless braids completed & bantu knots. A wash, extra treatment or trim is an additional price (you can come washed & blow dried on your own) but I like to leave it to the professionals. The owner B, also has a hair line with wonderful products and I love to give that a try. The ONLY con, and that's me looking for one, is the price. Some would say it leans on the pricier side. But it's honestly affordable and I don't mind paying for luxury and a style that LASTS! And stylists that actually care about your hair. I cannot tell you how many stylists will do these styles and treatments on clients just because it's what they want when they know good and well it's not healthy for them. Within two weeks of getting my weave, two tracks were lose and now two weeks later, the front track is coming off. I do wish she discussed pricing with me prior to as I was charged $50 extra. Didn't mind too much. BUT! she did find some scrap hair (that should have been washed) to help blend in my blonde highlighted leave out. Maybe that's the reason so it seemed fair at the time. Love love love this place. I've been going to the same salon for years but i was at work one day and I came across a post from Bkrowned saying they had silk press availability that day. So I called and scheduled right away and went in. Everything went smoothly from the moment I walked in , an employee welcomed me , grabbed my belongings and hung them for me. Even complimented my outfit. I had just recovered from a crisis (fungus infection on my scalp) which I told them before hand. I was so uncomfortable discussing it and thought they would behave disgusted with the extensive damage of my hair like my previous salon did. But they were extremely professional about it. They made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. Shared tips on what I should and shouldn't be doing with my hair type. The owner B, herself did my hair. Gave me tips for helping restore healthy hair , and cut all the damage without compromising the healthy hair, which I was grateful for since I already lost so much hair. 5 starts for the customer service. 5 stars for communication , 5 stars for how much I loved my cut. BKrowned provided the best experience from the walk in! I was super late to my appointment due to commuting from jersey and didn't think my appointment would be accommodated as it was a full house. B greeted me upon arrival. I felt very welcomed and comfortable btw. I asked B if she can accommodate me and she checked her schedule as she was fully booked and was able to squeeze me in. I had the pleasure of Asha braid my hair down for my sew in and she was the sweetest. When it was time to get my sew-in, B was sooooooooooo nice! Unfortunately they are very unprofessional I booked to have my hair done on a Tuesday morning and they rescheduled me for the next day without letting me know as if I had the free time to go whenever I please. I'm a business owner and I operate on strict schedules. I then rebooked for the following Friday which they confirmed. I called to ask a question about my service and all of a sudden they didn't see me in the schedule which was weird because they just confirmed me. The woman on the phone was telling me her computer was taking a while and she spoke to the stylist who said she was not available which made no sense because they confirmed my appointment. The owner Bee, is simply amazing. She is kind, she is on time, she is professional and she is about her business. My sister had an early morning wedding event on a Saturday morning . Instead of coming to the shop she suggested a house call so the bride could be comfortable and have a fresh hairstyle right before her event. (Of course for an additional fee, but it was worth it ) She got here 6:30 am on the dot , with all of her supplies ready to work within 5 min. What I love is she's not one of those stylist who doesn't chat with her clients. Not matter how early it was she came, full of energy, bringing great vibes and positive energy. Letting my sister know everything she was doing to her hair along the way. And the end result was simply fabulous. This girl works hard, and I would definitely book her again without hesitation. I Love The Work This Salon Provides, However I Travel All The Way From New Jersey To NYC to Get My Hair Done. I've Came To This Salon Over 5 Times & The First Experience Here Was Fantastic... That I've Decided To Continue On Coming Back. However 2 out of my 5 Visits were not professional at all. There were about 3 Different People In My Hair and My Hair Felt Rushed. I Had Felt Uncomfortable because one stylist was told to do my hair and did not moisturize my hair at all brushing it hard and dry, a different stylist was told to do the next step on my hair and I had to inform her my hair was not moisturized so please add a leave in to my hair before she adds any heat. I wish I was able to select a stylist for the service I need because I've never had any issue with Shaneek. She provides full attention to her client even if she needs a break from the start to the beginning and we are all human. B please take this in mind because I would like to keep coming here however not all stylists at the shop are providing good customer service and care even though hair might look nice the customer might not be satisfied with their hair when leaving.
