Huge refrigerated room with many varieties of kimchi and tofu, fresh vegetables, and even 3 sizes of dried anchovies. Such a great place to shop for East Asian groceries! They just get better and better by the year. The new remodel has everything bright, shiny, and pulled-together. I do miss the nice manager who always chatted to my kids, and them giving my kids a lollipop for free. It feels less friendly and personal than it did in the half dozen or so years after opening. Fantastic! I'm from San Diego, California (we don't say Cali in California). We have several Asian markets, but not one has the unique variety of food stuff as this market. I love Zhongzi aka Chinese Tamales (rice dumplings), but not one Asian market in San Diego carries them. I have to go to Los Angeles to meet my craving for these tasty dumplings. I was surprised to find them here in Indiana! I taste tested the ones I bought: one pork & the other red bean paste. They were both good. The ones I'm used to are filled with more ingredients like water chestnuts, hard boiled egg, baby corn and sweet potato. The ones from the market only have one main ingredient, like pork or bean paste. I recommend eating both at the same time, mixing the flavors together. I also recommend this market for any Asian flavors you might be looking for and/or to try out new delicious foods! read more

This market is clean and well maintained. There are wide varieties of food and drinks that are sold there. The staff are the most helpful and the friendliest people to talk to. I will be going back there in the future and I would highly recommend this place to all of my friends. read more

Big store, but less of a selection in comparison to the other market in town. At least for the items I seek to purchase.

The other day we were shopping for rice. The bags of rice did not have prices clearly marked, but we brought one bag to the register; the cashier told us the price, which was far above what we had expected. I think perhaps they are not displaying the prices with the expectation that customers, after a long wait in line, will pay the higher price without arguing. Apart from this, the second register was being used for some other purpose, in spite of the fact that there were seven or eight customers waiting in line. It appears that their service is deteriorating. However, they remain the best place in Bloomington for many Japanese food products. read more

We are so lucky to have this resource in Bloomington. My kids have gotten really excited lately about snacks shipped from Japan and other places. The monthly subscription costs for these types of things can be very high, however. The B-Town market has great candy and snacks. It also has ingredients for cooking, like soy sauce, Ramen noodles, and sesame seed oil. I love this store! read more

B-town International Market has won my heart! The selection is great, they have delicious ready-to-eat baked goods and buns to steam. They have an excellent selection of rice, sweets, noodles, etc. The service is very good, the owner is always very friendly and gives my kids fancy star-shaped lollipops, and they will order things for you if you ask nicely! Lots of Korean stuff it's harder to find locally. They have a loyalty card that earns you periodic discounts, and will give you a 10% discount if you pay cash. The store smells nice. The location is convenient with a nice big clean parking lot. Can you tell I am thoroughly charmed? Maybe I should just move in! Heads up, Obo's and Saraga, THIS is great service! If you think Mayonnaise is just mayonnaise then I challenge you to try the Kewpie mayo - it is SO GOOD, comes in a squeeze bottle with a Kewpie doll on it, and can squirt out in a star shape. You can also get seaweed snack packets (the size that sell at Sahara Mart for $1.49 each) for something in the neighborhood of $4 for 6 of them, and they're less oily. read more

You walk in and you don't get hit with the rotting fish smell that sometimes accompanies the other international markets. This is why they get 5 stars. Their produce was really fresh too though. Staff has been friendly each time i went in. So far this place is pretty awesome, just wish they sold smaller jars of kimchi since I'm usually not in the market for a gallon at a time. I was here to buy some food a few days ago and i went to the cashier to pay for what ive picked up. So the cashier was asking me if i wanted a bag for the stuff i got, but i couldnt understand him because of his strong accent. after he repeated 2 times, he got mad at me and was sort of yelling at me. It's opened by the owner of Great Wall. The price is reasonable, the selection is large, and the staffs are helpful and nice (you will be greeted by the owner, who's a hard-working and friendly guy). It is the best asian grocery in town, Saraga a close second, and Obo should go out of business and be replaced by a much nicer chinese grocery store. read more

They sell a lot of Korean foods here that I can't find elsewhere. Actually, so many that I thought it must be a Korean supermarket (but they do have other Asian foods). Have not yet been to Saraga, but this is by far the best out of the others (Obo's and 10th St). read more

From these reviews I assume the market has improved. I shopped there when they first opened for chinese medicinals. When I asked for a product that I couldn't find the owner insisted the packaged item was the same. It was a different product than I asked for and was moldy as were other herbals I purchased. The prices here are about the same as other international grocery stores in Bloomington, and the selection is okay, but nothing to write home about. The problem that I experienced while shopping here is a lot of xenophobia, which resulted in special treatment by the owners and staff to those of Korean descent, above anyone else who happens to be in the store at the time. Several times, I was ignored when I had questions about things or needed help, as they were waiting hand and foot on a Korean customer, and it took 3 staff members at a time to make this person feel "special." One of my friends, who happens to be Vietnamese, also had the same experience, where he was practically ignored; meanwhile the staff was tripping over themselves to help someone who happened to be Korean. They seem to cater strictly to the Korean population, but I assume that is where the majority of their business comes from. There are some items here that cannot be found in other international grocery stores in town (unless you want to travel to Indianapolis), so they seem to know that they are the only game in town for certain things. The store itself is clean and things are easy to find. The aisles are a bit cramped, but the building itself is not really that big. Many of the other reviews mention that this place does not smell like fish, which is a problem that other international grocery stores have, and they are right, so that's nice. Overall, if you are looking for some international foods, you may be better off shopping at Saraga Market or Obos, as they seem to treat their customers a little better and appreciate your business. read more
