this will be my second time coming to this restauran. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt the first go round because I did come late that evening and seen them preparing to close so I knew the service wouldn't be top tier. Being a former food service worker I'm aware of restaurant etiquette. This second go round I came around lunch, ordered my drink and my food and it came out in a timely manner. This is where things go south, my boyfriend ran out of his beverage and was never asked if he wanted a refill, and on top of that our server never came back to check on us to see if we needed anything else or if our food was too our liking. During our experience we heard our server asking other tables if they need anything else, asking her tables how their food is but never passed the sentiments to us. we finally finished our meal stacked our dishes and set them to the side of the table and she comes quickly with the check to the table before clearing the dishes. She still didn't ask us how anything was, if we needed anything else nothing. I won't be coming back to this restaurant to experience bad service. The food is great but the service and experience does not equate to the terrible experience that I've gotten each time I've come. read more

Food is great. Service, not so much. I could do without the attitude. I can't help but take it personally, because with other patrons my server smiles at them. With me and my party - all we got was a grump. Kind of ruined the meal. We go back for the food, but each time we get this server, it kind of just ruins the whole dining experience. It's not like you can request a new server. There's only like 2 of them. We used to have a guy server and he was pretty cool. I don't see him there anymore. The 2 Asian women that are there can use some training in customer service. Baan Thai, I suggest that you train your servers to treat everyone the same. If they're going to smile and be nice, smile and be nice to everyone. They can't just pick and choose who to be nice to. We are all paying customers. P.S. If you're white, you'll get good service. The worst meal I've had in Manhattan, Kan. - hands down. I'd been wanting to try this place since moved to Manhattan in July 2020. The website indicate it caters so I opted to bring food in for a gathering of guests. The person on the phone had no idea how to take a catering order. I hung up after 15 minutes of getting nowhere. Tonight, after a workout in the gym, I thought to get a couple items. I called ahead. They did not have the vegetable dish offered on the menu (green beans) so I opted for broccoli without meat because I ordered the chicken satay with it. When I picked up the order, they were about to charge me for the full cost of the veggie dish, including the meat which I asked to leave off. So I declined that and brought home the satay. I bit into a flavorless, rubbery chunk of chicken, employing my use my hands to pull it away from the rest of the skewer. The rest of the stringy rubber meat - if you can call it that - wound up in the trash. I cook Thai food and have experienced Thai from among the finest chefs in NYC and Chicago. Baan Thai clearly purchases low-grade quality meat. Fine for those who enjoy this place. Perhaps my taste buds a bit more experienced, but nonetheless they're screaming, "Stay away!" 1 Star because 0 is not an option here. read more

Everything here is delicious, every time we've been. My kids love the chicken satay with peanut sauce, Pineapple fried rice, and pad Thai. If you want to order food from here through their website, be prepared to wait an extra hour after your food is supposedly ready for pick up and get yelled at by their waitresses. I placed my order today at 6:13pm, was charged immediately, got a message that my food is ready at 6:40pm. Arrived at 7pm to pick up my food. I saw them pulling a order ticket off of the kitchen clipboard when I gave them my name. Then I was told the food is not ready yet, and to go stand in a corner and wait. When I asked at 7:15pm what happened to my order that is supposedly "ready for pick up", I was told that they had just placed the order. Didn't end up getting my food until 7:35pm. When I asked if I should place my future orders differently, two of their waitress came out, raised their voice, repeatedly cut me off, and basically yelled at me about how it's not their website and not their system etc etc. It was an embarrassing display of their lack of hospitality or basic manner. It's a shame because we had always liked their food but will not be ordering again. Not sure if they're racist, but they do seem to be pretty polite to the three white male that came to pick up their food while I was told to wait in the corner. For context, I'm Asian. Btw: ask for medium spicy, gives it a better kick to the curry spice. - C3: Larb Gai is kinda salty, but other than that it is good. - B1: Tom Yum soup is kinda salty. After a small bowl of it, I couldn't eat anymore without drinking a cup of water. - F2: Pad See-Ew is ok. You can really taste the soy sauce. Overall: I would come back for the curry. First, the food is AMAZING and I would eat here again. However the service is awful. The host didn't even greet us when we walked in, just sat us. Then our waitress didn't greet us when we sat either and rushed us to order. She took almost 15 minutes to bring us the water and then didn't check on us once. we waited for her to get a box and offer us the check for another 15 minutes. This place is great for TAKE OUT. The best place to get authentic Thai food in Manhattan, KS! I ordered the Gang Gha Ree (Yellow Curry, mild spice) which was "Yellow curry in coconut milk with potatoes and onion." This was delicious! This curry was more liquid than paste, but the taste was not diluted. I also tried my friend's Tom Kha Gai which is "Coconut soup with chicken or shrimp ($1.00 extra), straw mushrooms, kalanka, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, cilantro, and lime juice. Topped with two roasted, dried chili peppers" and I fell in LOVE! I am a person who is usually 100% AGAINST coconut, but for some reason, this soup was so flavorful and good, without the coconut overpowering it. The decor inside was very cool - they had a pagoda design with lots of long drapes. There was a lot of booths and tables and the staff was very nice. The food was tasty but def Americanize Thai. The papaya salad was ok. I had the spicy green beans and added chicken and it was not bad. My daughter had the pad see-ew noodles which she enjoyed. The food is really hit or miss but you can tell the owner is cheap. We ordered the house sampler, as you can see for their take on "Vietnamese spring rolls" (referred to as soft spring rolls) they only put 1 shrimp in each roll and then slice it in half.. so it's not worth 5 dollars. I've been a few times now and tried many different dishes - the food is fairly authentic, considering this is a Thai restaurant in eastern Kansas. The menu features a wide range of appetizers, entrees, and Thai deserts including my favorite, sticky rice with mango. My girlfriend ordered a mild dish and it turned out to be very spicy (not unheard of with Thai food) and our server promptly apologized for the mistake and had a new dish prepared that was much less spicy. Brought food home and the pad see ew was dry, tasteless and the beef was tough. Called the restaurant to complain and asked them to make another order. They said 20-30 mins. Got there and they said it'd be another 10 mins. I said that I no longer wanted it and I wanted a refund. They said they couldn't do that. I asked for a manager. There was none. So they called the owner. And the owner said no, they wouldn't refund my money. So they wasted nearly 90 minutes of my evening to get lousy food that I didn't want anymore. Nope.
